"Morning, I made breakfast." Josh said as Mikayla stared at him in a state of awkwardness.
She was pretty sure she knew where this was going and that it wouldn't be enough. She imagined how this conversation would go and didn't think it would be easy. Yet still as she looked at her husband, she wondered if she had the guts to go through with it.
She had to, though. She knew she didn't love Josh. And while it was too early to say with Martin, they definitely cared for one another and she wanted to give it a shot.
"Morning." She replied, walking into the kitchen as Josh placed a plate of pancakes on the table.
"Come sit down." Josh told her.
He had cooked pancakes and bacon, cut up some fruit, and had juice on the table. It wasn't the most expansive meal, but Josh wasn't a great cooker anyways.
"So, did you sleep well?" Josh asked, as Mikayla slid into her chair.
"Ya, I ummm... I slept well. You?" Mikayla answered, putting a couple of pancakes on her plate.
"Got up a little earlier than usual but overall slept well." He replied, taking some cut-up fruit.
There was an awkward silence as neither knew how to start the conversation. Mikayla knew they needed to have this conversation, but she didn't want to hurt Josh. He wasn't a villain, he just wasn't the man for her.
"So... I guess I should start." Josh awkwardly said.
"Ya." Mikayla responded.
"So, I really thought about what you said last week, and I'm going to be perfectly honest with you." Josh said, taking a deep breath before continuing. "Mikayla... I don't love you."
"Oh!" Mikayla replied a little shocked by this revelation.
"I know this is tough to hear, but I fell in love with the idea of you." He told her. "I want a beautiful, smart wife to come home to, and you fit what I was looking for. But I loved the idea and not you. It's one of the reasons I was always able to leave you alone for weeks on end. You were an idea of love, not an actual love. I don't mean to sound harsh, but it's the truth."
"You know, I think I feel the same way." She replied. "I wanted a mature, goal-oriented husband, and you were that, but you're not what I needed. I guess I too fell in love with the idea of you and not you."
"Oh, thank god." He responded. "Sorry, I thought you'd be mad or upset."
"Hey, I wanted honesty, and you're giving me that." She told him. "So what now?"
"Well, we either stay together and put in the effort to see if we can make this work." He answered. "Or move on with our lives."
"Can I be honest now?" She asked.
"Of course." He replied.
"I don't want to put in that work." Mikayla told him. "We could put in all that work and find out we still don't love each other."
"Truthfully, I was thinking the exact same thing." He replied. "I think we need to admit we tried, but are not right for each other."
"Ok then, there's something else I should probably tell you, just please don't get upset." She said.
"I promise I won't."
"I kinda met someone else."
"Oh... well, it was bound to happen with me leaving you all day. So, do you love him?"
"It's too early to tell."
"Have you slept with him?"
"Of course not."
"I won't be mad. At least one of us should get some action."
"No, we've done some stuff, but not that. I didn't want to hurt you."
"You don't have to worry about me, not anymore."
"So, you wouldn't mind if I asked him out tonight?"
"No, go ahead. I'm not gonna hold you back anymore."
------
Martin was having a typical morning, enjoying the lovely day and his coffee out on his porch. It was Sunday, the one day of the week Mikayla didn't give him a show. He wasn't upset; he knew she had a good reason for it. And plus, he assumed he'd see her later, especially after the previous day's events.
He tried to read the newspaper, the keyword being tried. He kept running through the events of yesterday. The handjob Mikayla gave him in the morning, their time spent together at the market, tasting her pussy, and making out with her at the end. It was a lot, and their relationship had been growing for a while, but he couldn't shake the feeling that he was feeling something she wasn't. She was young, beautiful, and charming. He was none of those things. So why would she be interested in him?
He concluded that Mikayla wasn't really interested in him, it was just part of her exhibitionism. She was just having fun with him until she figured out her marriage. Yesterday's kiss was just a mistake, resulting from them spending the day together and Mikayla feeling lonely.
He was protecting himself from getting hurt, not wanting to get his hopes up, only for reality to crush him. It was a depressing thought but a necessary one.
He wondered how her talk with her husband was going, he knew Mikayla would probably tell him about it later. He hoped it went well. He knew Mikayla seemed done with the relationship, but he hoped they would try to fix it first. He'd hate to see Mikayla go through a divorce, he remembered his own divorce and it is not a fun process.
Then he saw her exit her house in a dark green top and a matching green skirt. The top had long sleeves and a button-up front, while the skirt only went down to her mid-thighs. She looked absolutely stunning as she smiled and waved at him.
He could feel his pulse quicken as she made her way over. She seemed happy this morning, almost giddy as she crossed the road. He thought this meant she had made up with Josh, which he would be happy for her even though it likely meant an end to her shows. She was a good friend and neighbor, and he wanted her to be happy.
"Good morning, neighbor!" She said happily, walking up his steps.
"Morning." He replied. "You seem to be in a good mood."
"Ya, I had a good talk with Josh this morning." She responded.
"That's great to hear." He said. "You wanna come inside and talk about it."
"Absolutely." She replied.
