I opened the app and went to my notifications. His picture caught my eye so I looked over his profile. Travis, 38 years old with dreamy, deep brown eyes and a bit of scruff. This man was definitely a blue collar kind of guy. Ball-cap with some brown hair peeking out from underneath it and a definite dad bod, he looked like just my type. Not much info in the profile other than the question "Any woman out there for real or are you all just bots?" Which surprisingly told me a lot. He's probably been on here quite a bit without much luck but in a town our size that's not too surprising. Then again you'd think that out of the 30 some-odd-thousand people in our area that there'd be at least a few women who would take a chance on him. I went ahead and responded to his message asking how my night was going.
"I'm having an alright night. Kinda bored though. What are you looking for?" There was no response so I went on about my Friday evening, poured some whiskey into a glass of ice and sat on the couch to watch something mind-numbing. It had been quite the long week full of excitement, the anticipation and having fun with Jason. Yet somehow I was still craving more.
About an hour passed when, pop. I guess he decided to answer, I thought. Pop. I kept getting notifications, one was from Travis but the three others were from different guys. Hmmm, well one at a time is probably best, plus two definitely didn't seem to be my type, if I even had a type anymore. So I ignored those for the time being.
"Glad to hear it's going good. I am looking for nothing serious but if we hit it off and it turns that way I'm not opposed. How about you?" Travis responded.
"I'm not looking for anything serious either. Looking more for NSA fun really." I had recently heard one of the guys at the shop use the term 'NSA' and then explained to me it simply meant a fling with no strings attached. I thought it fit perfectly for my current needs, well wants, I guess.
"Cool. I'm down for that but if you don't mind I'd like to maybe meet for some coffee."
"Yeah that could work for me. Though I'm really not looking for a relationship." I told him. I thought I should be a straight shooter.
"That's alright, just thought we should talk a bit beforehand to make sure we're compatible in that regard." He responded. "Tomorrow at 1, Stacy's Coffee?"
"Yeah sure, see you there." I answered.
"Nice. Goodnight beautiful." Travis left off the conversation.
Well he seemed to understand what I meant, I guess I will find out tomorrow. I sat sipping the rest of my whiskey, which really didn't help me much because anytime I got a buzz I got frisky. So still a bit bored I looked over the notifications. Larry, 64, wow no thanks I tend to like older men, but not quite like that! Okay next, Mark age 46, divorced and lacking some hair but other than that not too bad. Trevor, 32, single with shoulder length hair and a face tattoo, not quite my type. There were a few more but nothing that really caught my eye. Alright Mark let's see what you're up to tonight. I chatted naughty with him for a while until I noticed that it was already midnight, then managed a polite goodnight.
Saturday mid-morning I was getting ready for my coffee date when I came to the realization that I hadn't been on a first date in over 16 years now. I wondered how much things could have changed since then but quickly dismissed the thought. I wasn't doing this looking for love so why worry. I ended up side tracked and left the house a little later than I wanted but the coffee shop was only 5 minutes away luckily. Pulling into the parking lot I got a text.
"I'm in the silver 4-door Dodge pickup, are you almost here?" Travis asked.
"Actually, I just pulled in. I think I see you." I answered and saw him look up and straight at me in my car. We both got out of our vehicles and walked toward the front door. I smiled at him and thanked him as he opened the door for me. I walked up to the counter and ordered, I didn't want him to pay for it so I slid my card quickly and let him make his order. As I grabbed my coffee I turned around.
"Alexis! How are you? I feel like I haven't seen you in forever!" A shrill voice that came from a woman that I went to church with boomed at me. I was quite startled by her and nobody from the church knew of the pending divorce. Let alone why I would be on a 'date'.
"Oh hey Megan, so good to see you. I'm good just grabbing coffee and heading out! It was good to see you have a good day." I faked my chipper response and headed straight for the door. I walked out and over to my car as I was shooting a quick text to Travis. 'Hey sorry about that, it's complicated. I will talk to you at your truck. So sorry.' He walked out the door looking puzzled staring at his phone. I got out of my car and met him at his truck.
"So, you are married I'm guessing. I thought your profile said 'divorced'." He smiled slightly almost as if the thought of being with a married woman was exciting to him.
"I'm in the middle of a divorce and I know that lady in there from church." I responded slightly embarrassed. Out of nowhere I heard a thunderous laugh come from another parking lot across the road. I looked over just in time to see my soon-to-be-ex getting out of his brother's truck and then started walking towards the restaurant that was on that side. "Oh my, dammit can we get in?" I motioned for his truck door and he nodded and unlocked it right before I grabbed the handle.
"Okay, what's going on exactly?" He asked as he got in.
"Alright so I filed for a divorce about 2 months ago, nobody really knows about it yet and that guy there is my soon to be ex." I responded as I nodded my head towards the two men walking across the street.
"The bean pole or the big guy?" He questioned
"The big guy and he doesn't know about me coming here today either. Really sorry about all this." I said apologetically.
