In our neighborhood we were the only ones with a pool so whenever there was a summer get together, we usually hosted. For today's get together we were joined by Heidi who was the classic girl next door. Beautiful, charming and friendly. Next was Rebecca who was the workout warrior of the neighborhood. She was always at the gym, in our pool or running. Last was Clara who could have been mistaken for a model. Great looking woman who had two masters' degrees and was obviously the smartest one in the neighborhood. Clara tended to talk like a scientist, a lot of facts and little warmth. I loved to goof around on her as she had no sense of humor and I easily got under her skin.
All of these women were at least ten years younger than us and were accompanied by their spouses
The discussion today was about the movie, The Bucket List. Individual discussions were going on about what was on each other's list. Clara asked me what was on mine and I couldn't resist the urge to mess with her. "I have two lists" I stated and waited for her response.
She encouraged me to share and I said that I have a "What to do list" like everyone else but that I also have a "Who to Do list." As soon as I saw the look of disgust on her face, I informed her that I was joking and just wanted to get a reaction from her.
Clara went right to where her husband was talking with the others. If you were to take a poll of who was the hottest guy in the neighborhood, I am sure that Clara's husband John would win easily.
I approached the group and Clara of course was filling them in on our discussion. My wife seemed amused and everyone else (Besides Clara) was chuckling. I piped up, "She did tell you that I was joking, right?"
The conversation took a lively turn as they debated whether I was joking or not. Finally, my wife asked who was number one on my list. I reiterated it was a joke but followed up with "Of course if the list was real, number one would be John, hands down."
This generated a lot of laughter and a comment from John about in my dreams. Everyone returned to swimming, eating and playing games.
As the party was winding down a few of us went for one last swim. The last two leaving the pool were me and Heidi. As we dried off, she just looked at me quizzically. "I was curious, if that list existed would I be on it?" she asked softly.
I brought the towel up to my face to cover it as I turned away from the rest of the group. "Heidi, you are the classic girl next door. Beautiful, funny and great to talk with. Combine that with a great body and you are number one on the list by a wide margin!"
