Initially I met Honey at the bank. Sort of, over the phone actually. She was a no nonsense tough cookie. although that was our initial contact, we also knew mutual friends. We both had married others when we were young, and those were disasters.
The bank telephone conversation were 3 years earlier regarding a home loan. She was the approver. On the form there was 1 bank question that was ambiguous, so I didn't tick the box. Well the lady didn't bother talking to me and just processed it, charging me an extra $85 for that, and $1800 for insurance. She told me later that I had that much equity they would have waived the insurance.
So Three years later I'm young, separated and getting a divorce, My friend Eve called me on a Friday to invite me to come over to her and Jimmy's place on Sunday to meet her friend Honey.
Eve told me "You've got to come, you two would be perfect together. "
"Eve I need another girl like a hole in the head.''
This was before I agreed.
A bit disclosure here. My soon to be ex-wife, before I met her, had a fling with Honey's fiancΓ© before they married. Needless to say, although I was the only one who hadn't meet all the players, the girls didn't like each other. Understandably so. This situation is very true.
However on this Sunday morning, as I live on the bay, I bought a boat. Took it for a test ride, paid, then brought it home.
Then it started to light rain on this very over cast day.
So I parked the boat trailer in the back yard, had a shower, dressed casually, threw a jumper over my shoulders with the sleeves draping down my arms, and headed to Jimmy's.
I got there at noon and met Honey. WOW!!
She was 5ft 8", white jeans, small knitted top wearing light beige shoes, nice size rack, curly light coloured long hair, green eyes, meticulous make up and a very shy smile. Very classy.
I would later learn how nervous she was. I didn't realise then that Eve and Jimmy were doing me the biggest favour of my life.
We made small talk and drank coffee. Someone suggested Subway, so Jimmy and I went to buy the sandwiches.
After lunch we watched the movies City Slickers and The Shore Shank Redemption. Honey had built a house in the same street, 200 yards away. I suggested she show me her house. This would ease the tension and allow us to talk.
We walked up the hill and she opened the house to lead me in and proudly showed me the finished empty house that she would never move into because of the divorce sale.
Nice design taste. I forget how or what happened, but we sat on the carpeted floor and just talked. After a while, our lips were locked and hands roamed everywhere.
Our tongues were dancing and I was having the most fun you can have with your clothes on. It is the quiet ones that you have to watch. Next thing, the lady from the bank who over charged me, undid the buttons on her top and took it and her bra off too.
Her girls fell out. WOW.
More kissing continued and our pants stayed on. For the next 2 hours we tried each other on for size.
We finished "talking" and I asked if I could call her, then in the darkness she slipped her bra into her jeans, fitted her top back on, we headed the 200 yards to Eve and Jimmy's, thanked them, I kissed Honey at her car and headed home.
I got a good night's sleep as I now knew what my future looked. The next day Eve gave me Honey's work desk phone number, which I still remember 29 years later.
Honey agreed to meet me after work. Subsequently that expanded to Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Monday after work and dinner, we walked, then finished making out in the car at 04:00. I'd return her to her parent's house, then drove the 50 minutes to my place.
On the Thursday, I asked her "Would you like to come out on my boat Saturday? "
Honey's replied perfect with "Only if you bring your beagle for me."
