Author Note: Hi everyone. It's been years since I wrote anything like this, so bear with me if it is a little stilted or I've done a poor job editing. I'm writing the type of things I'd like to read, and I hope others enjoy! Everyone is consenting and 18+. xoxo
Once I made it to the restaurant, I stepped off the motorcycle, pulled my helmet off, and shook out my hair. At a table outside, I noticed Jacob waving me over to his group of friends. As I made my way over, I unzipped my plated biker jacket, carefully weaving through the metal tables and chairs.
Jacob and I hadn't talked much since the party at my brother's house, but he knew I was still reacquainting myself with the city and could probably use some friends, so he invited me out with him and his.
When I made it to the table, basic introductions occurred. The 6 new names all blurred together. The focus of the table was on me, overwhelmingly, for a few moments. They all seemed to be sizing me up. I couldn't tell if I should have been scared or turned on. A bit of both I figured.
"So, how do you know Jacob?" one of them asks, who I think his name was Nate. Despite the question waiting for a response, I noticed many of them had their noses in their phones.
"He's known my brothers for years, and we all started playing video games together. When I moved back to the city, I got to finally meet him at a party my brother was hosting...", I trailed off. Between the group's focus being directed at their phones and Jacob's being anywhere but me, it made it hard to want to continue.
Waitstaff finally swung by, got drink and appetizer orders, and left us to continue idle chatter. Most of it was on their phones or directed at each other, so I sat quietly on my phone, chirping up when I had tidbits to add to the conversations. Without warning, Jacob got up and stomped off towards his car in the parking lot. No one else seemed to think much of it, but I was concerned. I mumbled out that I was going to go check on him, and wandered off.
