It had been a while since the server room incident. Nothing had been said or done about it since. There was no outward awkwardness, or signs of regret, and I still had my job. So, I never broached the subject with her. The college kids had moved back to town, so we had increased business. We weren't crazy busy but a nice uptick in sales where I had to worry more about fake IDs than having to worry about enough money in checking for payroll.
I strolled in for my shift ready to get the weekend paperwork done, when my morning person informed me that it looked like we got vandalized last night. The trash can just outside the door was tipped over and trash was all over the parking lot. No actual damage, just extra work for my opener, and she was none too happy about. Neither was I, now I had to look through hours of video to see what happened. Living in medium sized city that also was a big college campus meant that both homeless people and highly hormonal college kids can sometimes be a problem. We weren't downtown so we didn't have nearly the amount of problems other stores had but it still happened.
I pulled some reports from the POS system, grabbed last weeks' timecards. Grabbed a coke out of the cooler and a snack for lunch. Double checked the weekly order to restock the shelves. My morning person had worked at the store for a few decades, never wanted to be a manager, but still took care of ordering, and we shared training new employees. My only reason for double checking the order was to make sure she didn't go over budget. I stepped out back had a quick smoke and made my way upstairs to my office.
I barely had time to organize my paperwork, separate my deposits, and print a few emails, when my direct line rang. Caller ID showed it was my boss, Julie. I answered in my gruffest grabbled voice. Thank you for calling One Stop. This is Julie, how can I disappoint you. She laughed telling me how much she hates when I do that. I told her I would stop when she stops laughing. She was just checking in I told her that for the most part everything was under control, but I would be spending a few hours today checking the CCtv for the potential vandalism this weekend. She said she would be by in a little while.
I plowed through the cashier checkouts, bookkeeping and inventory numbers. Entered last weeks hours for payroll, went a quick break before starting to review last nights video. This could take minutes or hours depending on when the vandalism happened. Even though I could play the video at 4x speed I still had potentially 10 hours of video to watch.
I had been watching the video for about 20 minutes when my boss walked into the office. "Anything?" She asked me. Nah just random people pulling on the door not realizing we are closed, even though all the lights are off. Just further proof that college kids are dumb I chuckled. Julie came over and leaned over my desk. Her tennis skirt showing her great butt and lifting to show off the tops of her thighs. She saw sneak a peak and smirked. For only being a year or so from 50 she had a body that put most 30 years old to shame.
