"What is the point of a pool when you're right next to the beach?"
Serena knew she sounded like a brat. She should have said something nice about the beach house her sister had picked. But after thirteen hours in the car she felt her brattiness was called for. To some extent at least. She also knew that her sister had been nothing but kind when she invited Serena to join her boyfriend and her on their vacation. Especially after Serena's last boyfriend had dumped her so unceremoniously.
She had taken her time to unpack. Partly out of laziness but also because she knew her sister would want to immediately go out to the store and buy everything they'd need for the next week. When she had finally gotten downstairs she was surprised to see that her sister's boyfriend had not gone to the store with her.
Dan wasn't classically handsome. He definitely wasn't Serena's type. She couldn't count the amount of times she'd joked that he wasn't boyfriend material -- he was a safety net. But they both loved her sister so she played nice.
"It's so hot here," he said, ignoring her snarky comment.
"Duh Dan. It's Florida." She rolled her eyes. As he started to take off his shirt she quickly turned away to face the kitchen window. Seeing him like that had her suddenly feeling very flushed.
"Too bad it's too late to go to the beach."
"What!?? What do you mean? The sun barely set!" She replied.
