The Texas Hill country is several thousand square miles, San Saba is near the northern edge. The San Saba River runs on the north side of town. Just south of town there is a ridge that overlooks the valley and the town. I own 125 acres on the ridge.
In the spring and in the fall being outdoors here is amazingly pleasant. There is a small flat area here that I have cleared of all of the cactus and mesquite trees, and I have built a large deck that has benches, a fire pit and a large, elevated platform bed with a king-sized inflatable mattress. The deck and the bed face to the north and you can just see the tops of the San Saba courthouse and a few of the downtown buildings in the valley.
It is late in the afternoon the sun is setting and the lights in the town are just coming on there is a good fire going in the fire pit and we have finished eating. We are sitting on the bench relaxing with an after-dinner drink. My arm around your shoulders as you lay your head back onto my shoulder. It is becoming a cloudless night and the stars are beginning to appear. In the south Antares' red glow gleams above the horizon. I love the way that you feel in my arms the touch of your head on my shoulder, it is all pretty magical.
