Destiny sat at her desk, her face in her hands. Gwendolyn or "Gwen" as she had asked to be called and Harold aka "Tyler" had just left. How Destiny had gotten through that meeting she would never know. She had been working on autopilot. To say she had been shocked would be an understatement. Somehow, she had managed to shake Tyler's hand while Gwen introduced them. She vaguely remembered squeaking out the question, "Oh, is your name Tyler? My paperwork has you listed as Harold." And she heard Gwen laugh and say that his first name was Harold, but he went by his middle name which was in fact Tyler. Tyler for his part looked equally as shocked as she was. Somehow either Gwen was too giddy with excitement about the wedding to notice or she had chosen not to say anything. Destiny hoped it was the former. From there Destiny had gotten down to business speaking almost exclusively to Gwen asking all the questions and answering hers. Everything had gone off without a hitch with Gwen being bubbly and delighted to be talking about the wedding plans and thrilled that everything was in order. Thank goodness it didn't take long, Gwen and Tyler got up to leave about 45 minutes after arriving. Destiny had all but collapsed in her chair as soon as the office door shut.
All Destiny had now were questions. What had she done? What was she going to do now? What could she do? She knew that Gwen deserved to be warned about her sleazy, cheating fiancรฉe but how the hell could Destiny tell her. If Gwen found out that she had slept with Tyer, several times if being honest, it could come back on the company. And if that happened Destiny knew she would be out of a job. As much as Lou Anne liked her, this company was Lou Anne's baby, and she wouldn't hesitate to fire anyone who brought harm to it. It killed Destiny, but she just didn't see how she could say anything. Destiny both loved and needed her job. She just couldn't risk it. Still, Destiny felt guilty for having sex with an engaged man. Although the only thing she could say in her defense was that she hadn't known. He certainly hadn't told her. But it ate her up inside knowing she wouldn't be saying anything.
Destiny lifted her head and took a deep breath. Maybe she could think of something. Some way to warn Gwen without giving herself away. Not right now though. She was still in shock and not thinking clearly at all. She would have to give herself some time to calm down and think rationally. In the meantime, she still had work to do, but she knew she would be working a lot slower and triple checking everything as she didn't trust herself to not make careless mistakes with everything else running through her brain.
When it was time to go Destiny took a literal sigh of relief before grabbing her things and heading out the door. She hadn't been home for more than five minutes when her phone rang. She looked down and nearly spit in disgust. It was Tyler! What the hell did he want? Probably to give her some stupid explanation about how it was all some huge misunderstanding. How he loved Gwen, and could she please be a good sport and not say anything? Or maybe how Gwen just doesn't understand him, and he was hoping that Destiny could be cool about this and still see him on the side. Whatever it was Destiny didn't care. She wasn't going to talk to him. Let him figure out his own life and she would figure out hers. She let his call go to voicemail. He left a message that Destiny couldn't help but listen to. He didn't say much. Just that he could explain and to please call him. Explain what exactly? There was no explanation that could excuse what he did as far as Destiny was concerned.
He tried back a couple hours later, and Destiny decided to block him. She was too upset and didn't want the constant reminder. She wished she could call Leo. But he had told everyone that he would be difficult to get ahold of and to let him do the calling when he could unless of course it was an emergency. As much as Destiny's heart wanted to argue, this was not an emergency. But Leo had always been Destiny's closest friend and if anyone could help her through this it would be him. Even if he just listened while she cried. She missed him so much. After finishing a couple glasses of wine Destiny went to bed early where she cried herself to sleep.
She made it through the next day and even the rest of the week. There had only been one incident in which Tyler had the gall to call her at work. She asked if he was calling with questions about his wedding to which he answered, "I think you know better than that." She responded by slamming down the phone. That took some nerve, but his gumption and arrogance is sadly what had attracted her to him in the first place. Friday afternoon Lou Anne came into her office and asked if Destiny would be willing to do a favor for her.
"Dear, it seems that Gwendolyn Adams who you met with on Monday was very impressed with you and how well you had everything organized. She called me today and said that she has a couple of new ideas for the wedding that she would like to go over but she wants to talk with you about them. She knows it's last minute, but she really wants to have a couple things added to her ceremony and with it coming up so fast she really wants to meet with you today."
Destiny felt sick but saying, "no," would look far more suspicious than just taking the meeting. "Sure Lou Anne. The rest of my afternoon is pretty light. Tell her she can come by anytime today."
"Well, that's the thing. She has some event to attend tonight and can't make it to the office. She was wondering if you could possibly go to her. You could leave now and then just head home afterwards. No reason for you to come back here. Especially since you are doing me a personal favor. I know this isn't usually part of your job."
This was the last thing in the world Destiny wanted to do. How could she go to this girl to discuss wedding plans knowing that she had fucked and sucked her fiancรฉe all last weekend? Her face got red just thinking about it. But this was her job and Lou Anne was counting on her. "Sure Lou Anne. I'll go see her. Do you have an address?"
"I sure do." Lou Anne handed her a piece of paper and Destiny immediately became suspicious. The address was the hotel and room that she had stayed in with Tyler.
"Lou Anne, did this request come from Gwendolyn or her fiancรฉe?"
Lou Anne looked puzzled. "It came from Gwendolyn. I just got off the phone with her myself before coming in here. Why?"
"Oops," Destiny thought to herself. "No reason," Destiny laughed. "He came to the meeting on Monday as well. I was just curious who actually called. It seemed to me that they were both heavily involved in the planning, so I just wanted to know who I was actually meeting with."
