Rune savored one last breath of the cool October air before heading into the cafeteria. Autumn was his favorite part of the year, full stop. He loved the cool weather, the run up to the holidays ... and of course, his favorite day of the year. Halloween.

With the holiday just three days away, their little college campus had transformed. Most college decorations were bargain basement, lame. Good old Turing actually took this stuff seriously. Probably all the Silicon Valley money.

The cafe, the center of student life on campus, was particularly done up. Cobwebs were just the start; all the lights in the cafe were orange, and spooky candles lit the tables. The fountain and the little stream that wound through the courtyard were dyed blood red, and a pretty decent mix of halloween-inspired tunes played over the loudspeakers.

Rune looked around for his crew, as he'd started to think of them. The end of his third month of rebirth, and he was starting to fully ease into his life here. Dating Madison had been the thing that finally made him really feel like he was part of the community at the tech-forward college. Since the end of September they'd been on half a dozen dates ... though none had been as hot and heavy as that memorable dessert had been.

Madi's dark hair was the lure that pulled him across the courtyard to one of their favorite spots. A little side area with a couple of big comfy outdoor chairs and an outdoor couch. It was right by the firepit, a feature Ken had told him would see some use by the end of November.

Madison was in one of the chairs, with Ken and Sydney sharing the other, and a couple of Rune's guy friends. Vincent and Alexander, guys that Rune had started talking to in a few of his classes and had slowly pulled into this growing circle. He was pleased to see them here chatting it up with Ken. Other than knowing and liking Rune, they didn't have a lot in common.

He seemed to be interrupting a heated debate as he got close. "No, no, no. You're just wrong Alex. Sit there in your wrongness and be wrong." Vince already had a good head of steam up.

Alex rolled his eyes. "Man, I'm telling you, one movie doesn't make a franchise. Batman Begins was great, definitely. But Marvel has a lot of bullets in that gun. DC has one and like, a half?"

Vince returned the volley with gusto. "No, see, that's where you're wrong. I admit, the rumors about Nick Cage were ... scary. But everything they've shown for Returns next year looks awesome. And they're already in pre-production for the next Batman. C'mon!"

Alex leaned back on the couch, bending his head to continue reading the poly sci book he was holding. "Whatever you say bro. We'll see." Ken and Syd had been ignoring them, and Madison was sitting with her legs tucked under her, silently laughing as the two of them went back and forth.

They all looked up as Rune said "Hey guys." General greetings all around, and Madi stood up to give him a hug. They settled down into the chair together, her not quite sitting in his lap. "I'm going to go with Alex on this one, Vince. I don't know why, but something tells me Marvel's got its head on straight for the future."

Madi elbowed him. "Do not encourage them, this has been all they've talked about for the last twenty minutes."

Ken looked up from where he was reading himself. "All I hear when they talk is that 'wha wha wha' voice like Charlie Brown's teacher." He grinned over at the guys to let them know he was mostly joking.

Alex just shrugged, and Vince scowled under his horn rims. "We'll see, true believers." Vince's mouth crept up as he considered the group. "You all going to Cora's party Saturday?"

Affirmatives rang around the group, with Sydney's "Hell yeah!" even outshouting Ken. They all looked at her. "What? Cora's dad stocks a good bar." She grinned like a bandit.

"Have I met Cora?", Rune quietly asked Madison. She turned to look at him, the rest of the group's chatter about the party fading into the background.

"I think so? Pretty girl, blonde hair. Great rack!" She grinned, then looked down. "Better than mine anyway."

He poked her in the side. "Oh hush. You're gorgeous." He "ahem-ed" meaningfully. "Speaking of, did you get the last of the stuff you needed for your costume?"

She smiled, and settled closer to him. "Oh yeah. Just picked up the gloves last night. I think you're going to like it." She wiggled her ass, just enough for him to notice, and he wiggled her eyebrows at her response. She giggled. "You all set for yours?"

"Yup. Though I don't think anyone's even going to give me a second look." He smiled back at her.

"I'll be looking at you. In fact, uhh ..." She leaned in closer to him. "I've been going crazy the last few nights since you sent me that picture. You look really good in your costume." She licked her lips. "Good enough to eat."

He chuckled, and used a low, growly voice. "I thought it was supposed to be the other way around, little girl." She squeezed her legs together for a brief moment at the sound of his voice, and he could hear her hold her breath a moment.

"Hey you know that thing we've been talking about?" She quirked an eyebrow at him. "I'm going to bring the condoms tomorrow night."

His grin went full force. "You're sure? You said not to pressure, and I'm happy to ..." She cut him off.

"No, no. Shush." She paused."And don't do any solo adventuring tonight, cowboy. You're going to need your stamina." Her cheeks had gotten a little pink.

"Hey!" Syd's voice cut through their moment. "Madi, stop snuggling your manslut. We gotta go." Sydney was already standing, looking down at the two of them with a level expression on her face.

Madison squeaked, and jumped off of Rune's lap. She grabbed her messenger bag and moved off with Sydney in a hurry. Rune couldn't help but watch their hot asses move off, mostly focusing on Madison's but enjoying the view on Sydney as well. He turned his head, and realized that the other guys were doing the same.

"Focus, boys." Rune said. They turned to face him. "We need to focus on the primary mission for this weekend." Vince rolled his eyes as Alex and Ken broke out into grins.

"I don't understand your obsession with my love life, Rune. I don't need a concerted effort on your part to ..."

Alex and Ken interrupted him in unison. "Yes, you do."

Rune smiled, and then put on his serious face. "Look, Vince, I'm not asking you to do anything you don't want to. You were already planning to go to the party tomorrow, yeah?"

He nodded, reluctantly. "Yeah, I was going to go with my Boba Fett ..." he didn't get any further as his friends loudly booed him into an icy silence.

Rune quieted down his friends as Vince sat back, his arms crossed in annoyance. "Vince, you always go too big with that stuff. You're going in looking to meet up with a girl, right? How are you going to do that through a Mandalorian battle helm?" Vince smiled.

"I guess your point is valid. Fine. What do I wear?"

Rune waved away his question. "I'll go home with you tonight and we can work on it. You saved some disposable contacts for the costume, yeah?" Vince nodded. "Good, then we have room to work with."

Rune turned to Alex and Ken. "I'll get him dressed, you boys do some legwork. Alex, who are you going with?"

Alex got a strange look on his face. "Alex?"

He stammered, but managed to say "Heather. I asked Heather, and she said yes." Three pairs of eyebrows hit their hairlines as Rune, Vince, and Ken took in his words.

Ken was the first to speak. "Heather, like Heather-Heather? Holy shit man." He grinned, and smacked his knee. "Good luck."

Alex rolled his eyes. "I'm not looking to fuck her, Ken. We've been friends for a while, and I didn't want to go alone. When she mentioned she didn't have a date yet, I asked. And she said yes."

Ken snorted. "Whatever you say, man."

Rune was more practical. "No worries. Make sure to ask her about any friends for Vince here." He grinned over at his lanky friend, who still looked shocked about the Heather bomb.

Rune could relate. He was still trying to picture Alex and Heather together as a couple when his watch beeped to let him know it was time to head to class.

The next day seemed interminable to Rune. He fielded a few calls from Vince during the day, reassuring him and making sure he was following the plan they'd worked out. He worked out, a lot, played through the last few hours of Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth, and tried to ignore the increasingly lurid teasing heaped on him by Eve.

By the time he needed to go pick up Madison, his whole body was on edge. Since his rebirthday, he was entirely sure this was as nervous as he'd been. To calm himself down, he'd thrown on a big comfy black hoodie with the Serenity symbol on the back and a pair of black sweatpants. The weather was glorious, in the high 60s, as he zipped the few miles over to Madison's neighborhood.

Tonight was even more of a stealth mission than his usual pickup. Madison's mom thought she was going to stay with Cora for a sleepover, so it was crucial that he not be seen. Rune sat in the booth of a Burger King in her neighborhood, slowly sipping on a shake. His eyes were glued to the bus stop just down the street. His timing was spot on tonight, as he hadn't finished even a third of the shake before he saw Madi's mom pull up in her massive SUV. Madison waved her goodbye as she pulled away, making like she was waiting at the stop. When she was sure her adoptive mother was gone, she trotted down the block towards the parking lot. She was carrying a small duffel slung over her back.

Rune met her outside at his motorcycle, smiling at her outfit. She was wearing basically the same thing he was, comfortable sweats and simple shoes. They exchanged a quick kiss before slinging on their helmets and pulling out into traffic. Madi had gotten much more adept with the straps since her first ride, and it took just a minute to get going.

Back in Madison's neighborhood, Rune waited as she scaled the fence into her backyard. With a thump, a messenger bag came sailing back over the wall, followed quickly by Madison herself.

"I'm getting pretty tired of her searching my crap." She complained in his ear as she stuffed her bag into the bike's saddlebag.

"What was your costume in the duffel?" Rune asked.

"Full length princess gown from a few years back. She thought I was going to be a faerie princess."

Rune snickered. "Don't knock it, the Fae are pretty hot."

Madison slung herself back onto the bike, grabbing his waist like an expert. "Yeah, well. I like my costume better. Let's go."

Rune gunned the engine and they shot off out of her neighborhood with a growl from deep in the BMW's throat.

As Rune navigated the bike up Cora's drive, he whistled into his mic. "This is quite a show."

Madison laughed. "Looking at this, you'd think she'd be insufferable right? Instead she's like the sweetest girl ever. I love Cora."

Rune nodded. "I'm glad. This is ... a lot to take in." Taking advantage the motorcycle's slim form he slowly split the lane up the drive.

As he made his way past rows and rows of waiting cars, Rune took in the sight of Cora's place. Well, Cora's folkses place. Madison had told him that Cora's mom was a doctor of some stripe and her dad was a lawyer for Google. That particular combination apparently meant they had more money than god, as the only word for their home was a manor.

From the front drive there were three stories evident, with a huge portico like an upscale hotel. The bottom floor was dominated by bay windows, and the level of gardening evidenced along the walk implied a whole host of attendants on staff.

Rune cut his way through the traffic to the front of the line, where a couple of guys in red jackets were taking stock of guests and valet parking cars for folks that had driven themselves. The guy in charge didn't look thrilled as Rune coasted to a stop in front of him and flipped up his faceplate.

"Names?" His voice was dry like sandpaper.

"Rune Murphy and Madison Hall." Rune had to raise his voice to be heard above the crowd.

"ID?" The tone of his voice said he wasn't willing to take any shit. Sighing, Rune reached into his sweats for his wallet. Madison had to open up the saddlebag and get hers out of her duffel. He took his sweet time looking them over, just daring them to be fakes.

"Very well. Your names have been ticked off." He did so, with a flourish. "You'll need to show ID again if you leave and return to the manor grounds." Rune rolled his eyes behind his faceplate.

"You'll have to have your motorcycle parked, sir. All valet parking is being done around the side, and you'll just leave your keys with the attendant. If you'll ..."

Rune goosed the engine, moving quickly but carefully past sandpaper voice and down the drive. He heard the jerk yelling behind him, and Madison's amused laughter, as he cut down across the lawn, following the ruts in the earth.

It was easy to find a good place to park, out of the way of the other cars but still in the protective embrace of the side area. They both slid off the bike and stowed their helmets, Rune triumphantly tossing his keys in the air before sliding them back into his pocket.

When he turned to Madison she was grinning like a madwoman. "What?" He asked, looking fake-startled. "What's wrong?"

"Nothing." She responded. "Just ... looking forward to tonight."

He wiggled his eyebrows at her and started up towards the house. She caught up to him, slapping him on the ass as she did so. He threw his arm around her as they carried their bags and such onto the walk into the back.

The chaos was less pronounced out back, but it was still chaos. Waiters scurried across the enormous multi-level deck that extended out of the back of the house. Tables of appetizers were still being assembled, and drink stations set up. Early bird Turing students in costumes wandered the deck, getting their hands slapped if they so much as looked at the food.

Rune and Madison walked to the handrail at the edge of the upper level, and looked down into a bowl of wealth. The decks led down to a small amphitheater. There looked to be bench seating for the venue, but it had all been pushed off to the side, turning the place into an enormous dance floor. On stage a DJ was setting up, and the sound of his audio checks just added to the madness.

A pool, multi-tiered like the deck, led off deeper into the grounds beyond the amphitheater. Rune stopped counting hot tubs at five, and he thought he saw hints of other spaces off to the left and right. He turned to look at Madison, and he guessed they both wore the same expression: a mixture of impressed and dismayed.

"I guess we should change." He was the first to speak, a tone of disbelief in his voice.

"Sure. Maybe they're giving out yachts as a door prize or something." She laughed as she said it, still looking around at the obvious opulence.

They flagged down a waiter, who seemed pretty put out to be stopped in her duties, and asked where they could change. She impatiently pointed back towards the far end of the house, away from where they'd come around, and ran off across the deck at full speed.

Rune and Madison strolled in the direction she'd indicated, waving to a few friendly faces they recognized along the way. When they came around the corner they were confronted by a pair of enormous tents. One had the bathroom sign above it for men, but the little guy on there had tiny bloody vampire fangs. The women's sign wore a witch hat and had a broom.

Madison whispered "See you on the other side" in his ear as she walked off to enter the ladies tent. He shivered, and headed for the mens.

Inside it was a schlongfest as guys stripped down to their boxers to get into their costumes. Rune stepped to the side a moment, taking in the vibe. There were a lot of classics, as always. Vampires, Frankenstein's Monster, leather bikers, a few werewolves. There were a bunch of guys wearing movie inspired costumes, too. Lots of Christian Bale Batmans, Hugo Weaving Vs, and Daniel Radcliffe Harry Potters.

Not seeing anyone he particularly wanted to talk to, he made his way over to one of the far corners, giving him a little more privacy. He stripped all the way down, unlike the half-assers, and got a couple of stares as he put on his thong and loincloth.

The rest of his gear in place, he headed over to one of the make-up stations. He'd brought everything he needed, but he saw they'd thoughtfully provided a bunch of supplies as well. Most of his work went into touching up his face, but seeing all the additional brushes at the station inspired him to do a bunch of work on his exposed chest and shoulders as well.

Checking himself out in the mirror, he nodded in satisfaction. The thong and loincloth were the only clothes he wore, the rest of him bared for everyone to see. He was glad to see the few hours he'd spent in a tanning bed since his rebirthday had paid off, as his skin managed not to glow a sickly white under the tent lights. He smiled, baring a set of cosmetic wolf fangs that looked totally natural against his now-furry face. Strategically applied fur ran along the side of his cheeks, joining his beard and his wig hair together into a seamless whole.

Over his heart, the temporary tattoo Madison had carefully applied to him Thursday night was still proudly evident. Dark red moon icons drew the eye and sold the bit.

With a blur and a hum, Eve's avatar appeared at his side. The minx was wearing a latex-and-lace succubus outfit, complete with wings and horns. She was, of course, smoking hot.

She smiled, innocent. "You look so incredibly fuckable. Madison is going to have a good time tonight."

Rune shifted his loincloth, for the first time realizing just how little he was actually wearing. "You are being totally unhelpful, woman." He spoke in his mind as he eyed her up in the mirror. "You look sexy as hell though."

She made a supplicating gesture that showed off the way her tits were straining against the leather of her outfit.

"Get out of here before I spank you. I'll wear this for you sometime next week." The look on her face, in that outfit, looked obscenely sexy. She faded out, chuckling in his head.

It took him a bit to get used to the sight of the nail polish on his 'claws', but he nodded after a final glance over his mirror image. Confident he was completely in order, he picked up his bag and tossed it into one of the lockers provided. He turned the key, and went to drop it into his pocket ... only to realize he had nowhere to put it. Laughing, he headed out of the tent.

He was going to hang around the mens tent waiting for Madison, but the stream of smoking hot girls in costume made him think twice. He'd thought Madi and he were going to be two of the most provocatively dressed people here. Then some girl came trotting out of the tent in a "sexy nun" outfit complete with stilettos and a generous slit up the leg, showing off luscious thighs that ... he beat a retreat back around the side of the house, looking for some friendly faces.

He'd barely had time to get some punch and find a vantage point at the deck railing when he heard a small cough behind him. He turned to see Vince standing before him, wearing the costume they'd worked out the day before. Rune's now-furry eyebrows went up. "Damn, man!" He was pleased to hear the expensive cosmetic teeth didn't make it any harder to speak. "You look amazing!"
