It has been your birthday. After we both got home early from work, we went to that nice restaurant you have been hoping to try out for a while. It certainly was a nice place with good food and a lovely environment. We went for a brief walk in the park as we waited for that new rom com to start at the movies. Maybe it was because we spent a little bit too long making out on that park bench, but we were just a little later getting to the cinema then we intended.
Our timing there wasn't too bad; the movie was only just starting when we got there. We both wanted to make sure that we didn't disturb the other viewers though, so we ended up sitting at the back. There were quite a few people there after all. All the stars are in this movie, so you have been looking forward to watching it for a few weeks now.
The movie started well. You know that it is a rom com, not Shakespeare, but it doesn't take long to start to disappoint you a bit. Some movies are like that; they get a lot of hype but just don't quite deliver what you want out of them. You can't help but start to let your mind wander. Maybe there is something else we can be doing instead. You can think of something that might be a bit more entertaining. Maybe we shouldn't do it in a cinema though. Maybe we should?
The thought crosses your mind. We are in the back of the room after all; nobody would see us. We would just have to be quiet. No one would notice...hopefully. You turn to look at me, see what I am doing. I am watching the movie. You don't really know if I am enjoying it, but you can take a guess. You gently grab my hand and look at me with a smile. I turn to look at you and hold your fingers in mine.
I smile at you but turn back to see the movie. Maybe I am enjoying it? Or maybe you didn't get your intentions across to me. You didn't say anything after all. Your hand is still in mine. You grip it a little tighter. You dwell on your thoughts a little longer. Is this something we should do? You turn your body towards me a little more and gently touch my knee with your other hand.
I once again turn toward you. I am simply smiling at you, though I do so for a little longer this time. You simply look up into my eyes, trying to look as playful as you can in the darkness. You grip my knee a little harder and gently slide your hand up my leg a few inches. You can see the thought cross my face. I am a little shocked; I wasn't expecting this. You lean in a little closer to me, trying to make sure that I am thinking about the same thing you are.
