Author's Note: Both characters in this story are consenting adults over age 18. There is a short flashback to when they were in high school strictly for context.
Will was 22 years old and trying to pay his way through college by delivering with Uber Eats. It sure wasn't a dream job and he would much rather do something related to his major. It was better than nothing, as he often told himself.
One busy Friday night, a delivery from a pizza place nearby came up. Will hesitated at first but accepted it anyway. He drove straight to Mario's Pizzeria after accepting the order.
Will picked up the order and was back on the road shortly afterwards. As he drove to the delivery location, he couldn't help noticing the customer's name and that it seemed familiar. But it could be just a coincidence. Who knows?
Seventeen minutes later, he was at the customer's address. It was an apartment building the next town over and he typed the entry code in the customer notes. After walking up 2 flights of stairs, he reached the door and knocked on it. "I'm coming," a woman's voice called. Will knew that voice from somewhere.
And then the door opened. Will saw the customer and the seemingly familiar name and voice made sense. His high school crush, Janette, stood there. And she was visibly pregnant.
Janette was the first to speak. "You look familiar. Did you go to Captain Bishop High School?" Will confirmed it, and it turns out that they graduated the same year. "William Anderson? Is that you?" Janette inquired. "And you must be.... Janette Davis," Will commented. Janette confirmed, and she invited Will in. He gladly accepted.
First things first, though. Will completed the delivery in the app and went offline. He knew that he was going to spend more time than usual there. The two of them sat at the kitchen table and ate pizza together. As they ate, they talked about their lives since high school graduation. Will talked about his studies and progress towards his dream career as a social worker. He also mentioned that Nicole, his older sister, was in law school just like she hoped.
Janette also started higher education but had to put it on hold after a year. She dropped out after her mother became really sick with Cancer and needed a caregiver. Her mom ended up losing the battle after about 1.5 years. Janette took a few more months off from school to help her older sister handle their mother's affairs and reach a better state of mental well-being. Just before Janette was going to re-enroll, she discovered that she was pregnant.
