As a newly qualified lawyer aged 30 I walked right in to a job with supervising a team if five women, all younger than myself. I thought this would be heaven, but the bickering and dissatisfaction they all felt towards our employer often placed me in an awkward position and made my life hell.
However, things improved after a few months when one of my team, Jill, a 28 year old who was living with an accountant and who was trying to qualify by the work-experience and in-house training route, asked me out to lunch.
I didn't think anything of this as I had been out to lunch with the whole team on a few occasions in order to build up moral. We had a bite to eat and a drink and talk got round to the Christmas party a couple of months earlier when I had inadvertently danced and then kissed another lawyer who despite being a lesbian had taken a shine to me.
I excused my behaviour as being down to the alcohol which had been consumed and said nothing else had happened and I went home alone that night.
The next question Jill asked me threw me a little as she asked had I wanted anything else to happen. I reminded Jill I had been married from an early age and was not looking to complicate my life any further and she left the matter there.
We went out for lunch a couple more times and Jill didn't return to the subject of my near indiscretion.
Easter was approaching and an office get together had been planned for Good Friday. The office was closed and everyone had agreed to travel in to the city and hit the bars near the office. I was not keen on the idea as it would mean an 80 mile round trip by train, but Jill talked me in to attending, telling me I needed to get out and let off some steam.
The event went well until about 10pm when everyone was starting to get a little drunk and we had hit a bat with a dance floor. Most of the group were dancing or propping up the bar and I had sort refuge on a comfy settee in a dark corner of the bar. I was checking my watch and thinking about going home when I felt someone sit beside me.
It was Jill and she asked me, over the sound of the music, whether I was glad I had made the effort to come out with the group. I told her I wasn't sure as I was worried I may do something I would regret and before I knew it she moved towards me and started kissing me.
Her tongue entered my mouth and wrapped around my own tongue and I pulled away, looking around worriedly as I thought my colleagues may spot us. But know one was looking and I took hold of the back of Jill's head, pulled her toward me and kissed her.
I was shocked at my behaviour and shortly after made my excuses and left to catch my train home.
After the Easter holiday I went back to work rather gingerly as I was worried what might be said by Jill or anyone else who saw the episode.
I was relieved when nothing was said and after a couple days back at work I got an email from Jill asking me to go out to lunch with her. I agreed and whilst out she asked me if I wanted to go out for a drink after work the following Friday, adding that a few of the team were going out as well as other staff from the office.
