Caught!
we saw Jon as a college student whose heart was broken repeatedly by girlfriends who were unfaithful. The Major Diaries tells the story of Jon when he's older and wiser - and determined to be with as many beautiful women as possible without risking betrayal. How well does he succeed? Chapter 6 discusses the need to find a nice boy to take Stephanie to her prom. All characters are adults over the age of 18.

Stephanie was disoriented when she woke. She didn't immediately realize she was in Jon's bed. That was understandable, because this was the first time she'd fallen asleep at Jon's apartment. It made her feel good. She loved being with Jon, and waking up in his bed was something she wanted to do more often.
She was naked when she left the bedroom and went looking for him. One of the first things she saw was her clothes, which were neatly folded in a pile on Jon's kitchen island.
"Did you wash my uniform?" she asked.
"Guilty as charged," he replied.
She smiled to herself. It was a thoughtful gesture, exactly the kind of thing she expected from Jon. Stephanie would have had to put her sweaty soccer uniform back on, but Jon made sure it was clean. She'd already known that Jon was a very thoughtful boyfriend, but it was nice seeing fresh evidence of that.
"I've been doing some reading," Jon said. "It's very interesting."
"What are you reading?" she asked.
Jon turned his laptop around so the screen was aimed toward Stephanie. It was a story about her, running on the front of the sports section of the
Los Angeles Times
. Stephanie remembered the story. It ran shortly after UCLA announced they'd recruited her.
"They say that if you do as well as expected at UCLA, there's a good chance you could play professionally," Jon said.
"Let's not get ahead of ourselves," Stephanie said. "It's possible I could get injured the first time I play and never compete again."
"Yeah. Uh huh. Right," Jon said. "And it's possible the moon could fall out of the sky."
Stephanie smiled. "You always know exactly what to say to make me feel good."
"Guilty as charged," Jon said.
Jon picked up the delivery menu to the vegan restaurant he'd found online. "I imagine you must be pretty hungry. Check out this restaurant," he said.
"You're right. I am hungry. But there's something I'd like to do first," she said.
"If this involves sex, I am very impressed," Jon said.
"No. My little pussy is hibernating right now after the workouts you gave it earlier. I had something else in mind."
Stephanie had never tasted alcohol. She'd never had a chance. She knew that Jon had provided cocktails to students as young as her, and that he'd probably be willing to give one to her.
"I guess that would be OK. You don't have to go home for a while, so there's plenty of time for you to sober up. What would you like to drink?" Jon asked.
"I have no idea. What do you suggest?"
"Well, a lot of girls like vodka because it has such a mild taste. I could mix it with orange juice or diet ginger ale. I recommend ginger ale.
"That sounds fine."
"This will take just a second," Jon said.
He got two glasses, tossed in some ice cubes, then added a shot of vodka along with some ginger ale. He made the drinks fairly weak to make sure Stephanie didn't drink too much and get sick.
"Drink this slowly," he said. "Since you've never had alcohol before, it's probably a good idea to make sure you don't drink too much."
Stephanie took a sip. It tasted almost like ordinary ginger ale. There was just a trace of the taste of alcohol. She and Jon sat on his sofa as they drank their cocktails.
Jon realized he knew very little about Stephanie's soccer career. He should have known it was such an important part of her life that he needed to ask her to tell him more.
He asked how she'd gotten involved with soccer in the first place, then asked more and more questions about her role on her high school's team. Stephanie enjoyed seeing that Jon was obviously impressed with what she'd achieved. Most of the time she thought of Jon as a much older, wiser, more experienced and accomplished person than her, and that he couldn't be very interested in her boring little life. It was nice to see how much Jon respected her athletic achievements.
They'd been talking about 15 minutes when Stephanie noticed the first signs of the alcohol. Everything seemed funny, and she couldn't help giggling. "I don't know why I'm laughing so much," she said.
"I know why. It's the vodka. How's it feel?" he said.
"It feels great. Great. Gr-e-e-a-a-t-t! It feels warm in my belly. I see why people like this stuff."
"I like it most when I'm with a group of people. It makes people more open and talkative. And you can always count on someone to drink too much. That can be entertaining - to a point. When I was in college, a lot of my frat brothers would drink so much beer that they'd end up puking all over themselves."
"I'll try to avoid that," she said.
"You don't have anything to worry about," Jon said. "There isn't enough vodka in this drink to make you sick. But I guarantee, when you get to college you'll see lots of people drink too much. Most of your friends will think it's funny when the barfing starts, but I never felt that way. The fact that my older brother's an alcoholic makes it hard for me to see the humor in binge drinking."
"I can understand how that could happen."
"But I enjoy drinking. I think it's fine if you just don't drink too much or too often. Most people have no trouble with alcohol. For most people, it's just harmless fun. Are you having fun?"
"This is lots of fun. It makes me want to do something," she said.
"What?" Jon said.
"This," she said, leaning in and kissing Jon. She kissed him again, and again, with each kiss being deeper and more passionate than the last.
Stephanie got quiet and pulled away from Jon. "What happened?" he said. "What's wrong?"
"My Mom said that the reason she got pregnant is that she and her boyfriend had too much to drink."
