I was visiting my girlfriend. She lived with her parents and sister. Her parents and sister tended to make sure I didn't get enough lone time with her.
Janet was twenty and was making noises of moving out of the parental home. Monetary considerations had currently persuaded her to not move yet. Mandy, her sister, was nearly nineteen, and discussing moving out with her sister, on the grounds that two would be able to meet the costs.
On this particular evening her parents had gone out for the evening leaving just Mandy to run interference with my love life. Still, I had a pleasant evening and it was drawing close to the time that I'd have to depart.
I could hear a rumble of thunder in the distance and I reluctantly decided I'd have to head out now to beat the storm. So I took a few minutes to say goodbye to Janet ant opened the front door.
Even as I opened the door there was an almighty crash of thunder and the skies opened.
"There's no way you can drive home in that," said Mandy and I was in full agreement. We settled down to watch TV for a while, assuming that the worst would be over fairly shortly. We were disabused of that notion when a weather forecast popped up on the TV.
To sum it up the virulent storm raging outside was just the forerunner of a full on blizzard that was expected to last a couple of days. People were advised to stay home. We looked out the front door and had to agree to that assessment.
Shortly after that Janet received a message saying her parents weren't chancing it and would stay in a hotel for the night.
It was decided that we should call it a night, the girls in their room and me in their parent's room.
"Don't bother sneaking in to visit Janet," said Mandy sweetly. "I'm a very light sleeper."
I gave her a disappointed look, shaking my head sadly.
