The train was scheduled to take the better part of the day and arrive mid-morning the next day. I had stayed up late chatting with my fellow passengers in the lounge car, but eventually could barely keep my eyes open and retired back to my coach seat.
Coach wasn't too bad; certainly far better than the airplane equivalent. The seats could recline a ton, there was a leg rest, and they even had a bit of padding you could swing out to rest your thighs on.
I had planned ahead and brought an eye mask and earplugs, but even so I would wake up every couple of hours and toss and turn. The seat next to me was empty, though, so I was able to move the seat a bit less reclined than mine & use it as a pillow.
We had pulled into some small town in corn country sometime in the early AM & I got jostled awake by someone else boarding, unfortunately taking the seat next to me. With my eye mask, I couldn't see anything, but I could feel the jostle of them & their blankets as they settled in.
"Sorry," I murmured as I moved my head to my seat.
