Cassie Palmer, 24, is visiting his childhood home today with his childhood friend and current girlfriend, Daisy May, 24, welcomed into the home with a smile by Cassie's father, Eric, 43, greeting the youngsters with, "Still together I see. You banging, or what? Oh, but you probably don't do girls do you, Cas?"
The young man shudders as he swallows down his swelling rage, as Daisy speaks up on his behalf, "We are together, actually! You would be more than proud of him if you knew what he's like to be with."
Eric laughs unbelievingly, thinking the young woman is joking, but falls into awkward quiet as he realises Daisy means her words, uttering, "I'm sorry. I don't mean to be rude..."
Cassie heatedly interrupts, "You are always rude, though. And, it fucking hurts. Just because I like things that are way too camp and gay for you, you presume that I must be gobbling cock and having my arse stuffed by all and sundry. I'm not so different after all in the respect that I like the company of women, but that's where similarities end, because I am kind and compassionate with Daisy, and she is with me."
Eric can hardly look at the young man, looking defeated as he mumbles, "I'm sorry."
Cassie sees the upset on his father's face, and feels great remorse clear his rage, saying, "I'm sorry."
Eric hugs his son, and steps back, looking at him, letting him know, "It's good to see you. I know we've not gotten on in the best of terms, but I do love you. We're just so different. You're the odd-one-out. No, I don't mean you are odd, or wrong, or whatever. I just mean you're different from us. That's not bad. We're so different it's hard to get along, but I will keep trying to. I'm sure your mom and bro will keep trying. I get it if you don't want to stay?"
Cassie replies, "We came all this way to see you. Actually, it's not that far, but it's the thought that counts, right?"
Eric follows Cassie and Daisy into the lounge, kitchen come dining room come living room; an open-plan space spanning the length of the house. They're greeted from the settees by Cassie's mother, Kirsty, 50, inviting all to, "Join me. Come!"
Kirsty is joined by her husband cuddling up to her, and Cassie and Daisy sit opposite, with Daisy cosying up to her boyfriend's arm, prompting the boy's mother to comment, "Cute couple. I'm thrilled to see you together. Closer together than I'm used to seeing you."
Daisy strokes Cassie's hair, responding to his mother, "I'm thrilled myself."
Kirsty beams with wide-eyes at the affection her son is getting, surprised at this development, saying, "Great," turning to call upstairs, "Jack?," turning back to the young couple to ask, "How long has this been a thing?"
Confidently, Cassie answers, "We've been getting close for a long time."
Daisy adds, "I couldn't tell you when it happened. It's just the most natural thing in the world."
Kirsty comments, "Quite," turning to the stairs to shout, "Jack?," louder than before, turning back to the young couple to say, "It's nice. I always thought you'd bring a boy home, Cas."
Cassie forces a smile, answering back bitterly, "I bet you wouldn't think it was so nice if I did."
Kirsty quickly and calmly asserts, "That's not fair. I would think it's nice. We want to know you, and understand you, and know how to be with you, Cas," turning to the stairs to scream, "Jacamo Palmer, get your fucking backside down those stairs now, you ungrateful little shit," turning back to face the young couple with a smile.
Cassie sees that his parents are receptive to his presence, seeing that they've been looking into his eyes nearly all the time they've been here, showing a genuine interest in his life. He says, "It isn't fair... of me to judge you so harshly. I just expect the worst from you."
Kirsty listens with a heartfelt smile, telling her son, "I get it. We haven't exactly been the best parents."
Eric adds to his wife's sentiment, "We never were trying to be mean. We just like to joke; banter. You're just very serious, and maybe we were insensitive to that, but we never meant to be vindictive or hurtful."
Kirsty continues from her husband's plea to her son, "It's true, Cas. We just wanted you to feel included with us. We tried to give you your own space too, knowing you are different from us. I'm just happy to see you now. I will always treasure this time."
Daisy says to Cassie, "You are very serious, and you take things straight to heart."
Cassie asks his girlfriend, "So, what I'm hearing is I'm the problem?"
Eric immediately replies, "No one is the problem. We all know we're different, and it's going to take a lot of work to get along, for all of us, but we're willing to try, if you are?"
Daisy looks into Cassie's eyes with a nod, and the young man sighs, saying, "I guess I am my own kind of difficult. Yes, Mom, Dad, I will try."
Kirsty's lip trembles and curls as she turns to the stairs, screaming, "Ja-," seeing her youngest son descending the stairs in the corner of the room, authoritatively shouting, "Oh, finally decided to join us, have you? I was calling you. Say, 'hi,' to your brother."
Jack, 14, slumps onto a settee of his own, collecting cushions to cuddle to his chest as he brashly announces, "I was owning noobs online. Fuckers just keep lining themselves up for a good bashing. I love fucking them. They cry on the mic, and I just tell them as it is, that they're good at the game, because they make top of the leaderboard. I'm daddy. I'm the alpha. I listen as they suck their momma's tiddies and their step-daddy's and uncle's dicks, aww yeah... Hi, fag."
Cassie swallows his anger as he says, "Hi. Still an insufferable arse-wipe?"
Jack remarks, "Oh, do you? Shit, well what you do in your own time is up to you," asking Daisy, "Come to ride my dick at last? I know you want it. Chicks love it," saying to Cassie, "Sorry bro, it's not for you. You'll make it deflate faster than a popped balloon. Pooft! My dick only likes pussy. Maybe a chick's ass. Clap those sweet fucking cheeks."
Kirsty shouts, "Jack, that is entirely inappropriate! I've changed my mind. Fuck off back to your room."
Jack gets up, leering at his mother, "Just jealous because you want me, but you know you can't have me. Or, shouldn't!," leaving back up the stairs.
Kirsty calls after him, "You'd better not be looking at porn."
