"Hurry up dammit! There's one more episode of the season!" Bea yelled at the television, watching the credits roll on a new Netflix series she had started. The counter in the bottom right of the screen seemed to take forever to tick down to zero until Bea jumped up and grabbed the remote to skip the credits.
Jon had been halfheartedly watching whatever 'chick show' Bea had found, but had spent most of the time playing games on his phone and scrolling through Reddit. That's just how they were together, it didn't matter if what was on the TV was one person's favorite show and the other hated it, they enjoyed each other's company and had committed to spend as much of it together for the rest of their lives after having spent years apart in a long distance relationship. Jon and Bea, his Beatrix, as he liked to call her, using the family name her father gave her that she had despised her whole life and quickly disposed of when she was old enough to decide for herself what she wanted the world to call her. Only he could use that name without evoking Bea to fake vomit in disgust.
"BABE!" Bea called out.
Nothing.
Jon had been gone for almost twenty minutes and she figured he was either in the bathroom or had gone to his newly finished man cave to either make a drink or just stand in the doorway admiring his work as she had caught him doing several times recently.
The show's opening credits started and Bea put her phone down, grabbed her glass of wine off the coffee table and settled in for one more episode. As if right on queue with the start of the theme music, Jon appeared in the living room and her bottom jaw would have hit the floor were it not attached.
Jon stood beside his recliner wearing blue scrubs, a matching surgeons' cap, and even had what looked like a real stethoscope draped around his neck. Bea tried to open her mouth to speak but no words came out. Her heart fluttered and she felt an all too familiar feeling wash over her. She bit her bottom lip out of habit, felt her chest getting hot, nipples hardening, and crossed her legs to press her 'other lips' together because she knew she'd be soaked in a matter of minutes. Bea tried again to speak but before she could Jon beat her to it and was already fully in character.
"Mrs. Henderson is it?" He asked her, crossing the room to stand next to her.
Bea grabbed the remote and hit four or five buttons at once, whatever it took to stop the show on TV and keep the new show going in their living room.
"Sorry we are a bit behind today. I've had two nurses call in with various illnesses and two more go home for childcare issues so it's just one nurse and three doctors here today and I figured I'd handle my patients solo to give our last remaining nurse a bit of a break."
"Well that certainly was nice of you." Bea said, holding back a smile and a laugh. She felt her bottom lip being sucked into her mouth again and stopped herself from biting down any harder as she feared she might draw blood.
"Oh it's nothing. It may be a Thursday but it certainly feels like a Monday around here today. Now let's get you back to an exam room and get started."
"Sure thing Dr. Henderson!"
Bea hopped up off the couch and followed Jon to their bedroom. She almost laughed at the sight before her. Jon had stripped the bed of the comforter and only the top sheet and pillows remained. On the bed was a magnifying glass, a popsicle stick from the kids craft box, and a pair of medical gloves.
"Have a seat right there on the edge of the bed...I mean exam table." Jon said.
Bea excitedly took a seat next to the instruments Jon had gathered and waited in anticipation for how he planned to use them.
"Alright Mrs. Henderson, let's start with the normal questions which I'm sure you're used to."
"Oh yea, I'm ready. Fire away." She said with a smirk.
"Sooo....let's see...ahh yes. I prescribed you medicine for your migraines last year. How are you doing with your prescription? Have you found the medicine to be ineffective or experienced any adverse side effects?"
"Oh my head is great. I mean my head is fine. I'm fine. Migraines aren't as frequent and when I do have them it's either due to stress or not eating like I should."
"Now Mrs. Henderson we discussed this last time. You need to eat at regular intervals." Bea caught herself staring at him again, lost in the roleplay.
"Very well then, moving on. You mentioned last time you were having some occasional pain in your left knee. Are you still experiencing any pain or joint stiffness?"
"Oh no sir, I haven't had issues with my knees in months. Walking and bending are no problem. I've started a new exercise regimen and could probably spend hours down on my knees now, when before...." Bea caught herself and her slip of the tongue. 'Damn, that one wasn't even intentional.' she thought to herself.
"No problem spending time on knees." Jon muttered under his breath, pretending to write something down. "Anywho, you're in good hands today for your check-up. We may be a little busy, but every patient deserves their one-on-one time."
"Oh I'm looking at your hands now and I'm sure they're quite gifted." Bea replied while wishing one of those hands were pinning her wrists to the bed and the other around her throat.
"Why thank you, though my literal hands might be a little rough from all of the sparring I do at the gym for cardio. I may be delicate with my patients, but I know how to beat it up away from work."
Bea was speechless.
"Moving right along. Now let's see, are you still taking your daily vitamin supplement?" Jon asked.
"Yes sir. Although sometimes I wonder if I have a Vitamin D deficiency."
Bea had to look away into the bathroom to keep from laughing at her dirty joke. It wasn't as good as his innuendo about 'beating it up' but she had to play along as well as she could.
"We can check that today if you'd like. I myself have a calcium deficiency."
"Oh I'm sure you have no problem with your bone - I mean bones." Bea said blushing.
"Oh not anymore at least. I've luckily gotten that in check although I'm somewhat of a scientific marvel."
"How so?" Bea asked, completely confused by where this was going.
"Oh sometimes I grow another bone, but it's only temporary. Mostly in the morning when I wake up."
Bea just stared back up at Jon with her mouth open as if she were trying to catch a fly.
"Uhhmmmm... I mean uh huh. But yes..yes... maybe an infusion for my vitamin deficiency. I just wanted to check that today if possible, in addition to the primary reason for my appointment."
"Whatever it takes to get you well Mrs. Henderson. I'm here for you! Although as someone who doesn't like needles I must say you're tougher than I am to ask your Doc to stick you." Jon replied.
"But you're a doctor." she shot back.
"It's different on the receiving end of things. I would prefer to be the one doing the poking or drawing blood." He answered.
"Oh I bet it's been awhile since you've drawn blood, but I'm sure you're an expert and your prick won't hurt me too bad." Bea said catching his eye, he was caught off guard for a moment but quickly returned to his duties.
"That's true it has been awhile. But I still want to make sure I do a good job drawing blood. I'd hate to stick you over and over and over again."
