Jace was sitting in the back of the minivan as he and his friends drove up the coast to the beach house they were meant to be partying at that weekend. Beach house was a misnomer; it was closer to a mansion from what he'd been told. He wondered why he had agreed to come but then reminded himself. It would piss off Caitlin to no end. She had recently dumped him for the guy whose house they were going to. Quite unceremoniously as well, she had done it over text, it was a really classy move. As much as it had stung his pride, their relationship wasn't going to have made the distance. As beautiful as Caitlin was she had a character issue, in that she didn't have one. He asked her out because he found her attractive in the beginning, as he got to know her he found her vapid, boring, dim witted and somewhat spiteful. She hadn't been amazing in bed either.
He did his best to treat her well, but had been too cowardly to break it off. So it had been a relief that she had ended it. It just would have been nice if she had not been screwing another guy before she did. She had been forced to invite him so as not to fall afoul of their friend group, in light of her recent actions. Part of him thought they just wanted some drama for their entertainment.
After a while they pulled up at the beach house. They parked up and started retrieving their bags out the back. Caitlin and her new beau Tyler walked out to greet them and usher them inside. He politely greeted them both staying civil as Caitlin draped herself over Tyler as he tried to crush his hand during the handshake. Caitlin was the cliche California blonde similar to Tyler who was a dirty blonde and just as tanned. If Jace still felt anything for Caitlin, seeing them together might have riled him, but he just couldn't bring himself to care. They carried their bags in and claimed the various rooms.
Jace freshened himself up and checked himself out in the mirror. His dark chestnut curls were shiny, smooth and his tan was coming along creating a nice contrast with his light green eyes. Average height, his weightlifting and diet had paid off, he had decent musculature and his abs were defined. He was feeling pretty good about himself. No need for a shirt, just sun cream by the pool. He changed into his swim shorts and headed down.
When headed out not everyone was there yet. He picked a lounger, grabbed a drink, smeared himself in suncream, put on his sunglasses and browsed a book on his phone. Others soon wandered out and sat by the pool. Eventually Tyler and Caitlin as well, Caitlin was wearing a ridiculously tiny bikini that barely covered her slender toned body. She had never worn anything like that when they were together, was she that keen to impress Tyler? Everyone parked on loungers chatting idly in the Sun, when another person came out.
She was dressed in a shapeless baggy white linen kaftan style dress. It gave her the appearance of being chunky, she paired it with a large sunhat. She was pale as snow, her face was cute, with freckles and a set of big blue eyes. She walked over to Tyler and sat herself in the lounger next to his, much to Caitlin's chagrin.
She spoke with an English accent. "Tyler take a photo of me and post it on the family WhatsApp so Mum and Steven believe I'm out here having fun."
Tyler obliged her, he pulled out his phone. She pulled a wide joyous grin and stuck up two thumbs, immediately dropping them when the photo was taken.
"Okay, that should help create the illusion. I'll leave you to it." She said.
Tyler spoke in a mocking tone.
"Or you could just hang out with us, instead of retreating to a dark corner like a mole person B. Everyone this is my stepsister B, B everyone."
B half heartedly waved at everyone.
"I'd hate to bring down the party mood."
Caitlin chimed in a bit of venom in her voice.
"Yeah, if she doesn't want to be here, let her just go!"
Tyler ignored Caitlin.
"B just stay down for a bit or I won't post anything on WhatsApp."
B relented.
"Fine, I'll stay for a bit."
Jace watched the whole interaction with intrigue. He had heard that tone from Caitlin before, when she thought other girls were a threat somehow. How was B a threat to her?
Caitlin bristled. B adjusted her hat and a torrent of thick ginger curls fell out down to the small of her back.
Caitlin commented on it. Venom still in her voice.
"Oh B, you've got big frizzy ginger hair like that Disney princess, the one that's all butch and also had that accent. What was her name?"
"Merida?" B answered, ignoring the insults.
"Yeah, you are exactly like her."
"Uhh... not really... She's scottish." B explained.
"Isn't the same thing?" Caitlin scoffed.
B gave her a withering look. Her voice taking on a facetious hint.
"No, I'm English. The Scots have their own nation, culture and history. Whilst making that mistake will make you look like a fool. Calling a Scot, English will potentially earn you a punch in the face."
"God! Who actually cares about that?" She imperiously asked rhetorically.
"The Scots apparently." Jace jibed.
"Urhhh, shut up Jace!" Caitlin snapped.
Jace raised his glass with a grin.
It got a smile from B.
Caitlin barked another question at B.
"What's B even short for?"
Tyler answered for her.
"Boudica."
Caitlin snorted with derision.
"What kind of name is that?"
B didn't rise to the disrespect.
"She was an ancient English queen who found numerous ways to tell the Romans to go fuck themselves. My mother chose it hoping I'd embody the same spirit when dealing with arseholes."
Tyler chuckled.
"Yes, your two bit gold digging whore of a mother."
Jace was kind of shocked. That seemed so out of pocket. Such a dickish thing to say.
B didn't take the bait. She affected an easygoing sarcastic tone.
"Now, now Tyler, she's a HIGH CLASS gold digging whore, get it right. Besides I fully know and understand where your resentment comes from. It's why you fill the void in your soul with superficial relationships you can discard on a whim. Instead of finding a good therapist."
Tyler scoffed, clearly used to this kind of verbal jab. Whilst Caitlin became irate.
"What the fuck did you just say!?"
B wore a smile.
"Nothing for you to worry your empty head about, flavour of the month."
Caitlin lost it and shoved B into the pool. Her anger dissipated a little when she saw all the disapproving stares pointed her way. B immediately broke the surface and swam to the edge. As she started to pull herself up Jace saw her dress had become see through. He realised she wasn't chunky, she was thick in all the best ways. Her breasts were large, along with her hips, thighs and butt, whilst her waist was tiny. As she got out of the pool dripping wet her dress clung to her tightly, all the guys at the pool were gawking at her.
Yet the hungriest looking was Tyler, he looked like a feral animal waiting to pounce. Caitlin saw this too. So that's why she saw B as a threat. Tyler felt that way about his own stepsister? He wondered if B was aware?
B wrung out her hair and picked her sunhat out of the pool.
She put on her easy going sarcastic tone again.
"Thank you Caitlin, it was so nice of you to help me cool off. Because that's the aura you give off, someone who is so nice, thoughtful and in no way cripplingly insecure."
"Fucking bitch!" Caitlin spat.
"Ah, thank you." B mockingly bowed. "I'm going to go have a shower now, to rinse off the chlorine before my hair genuinely resembles Merida's."
