The scratching sound of the chalk against the blackboard was like music to Vanessa Newman's ears, or Ms. Newman as most of her students called her. The occasional mumble or cough from her class helped harmonize the symphony. Yet, there was one sound that usually interrupted her "private" concert.
*POP*
The familiar bubblegum balloon popping loudly made her sigh in defeat. "How many times do I have to repeat myself?" Ms. Newman asked, turning around. "You aren't al--...are you listening, Roxanne Williams?"
Roxy was sitting at her messy desk, loudly chewing her gum, twiddling her pen around her hand while her whole attention was on the pink cellphone in her hand. "Uh? chew chew Did ya say anything, Ms. Vanny?" The blonde looked up, still chewing her gum with her mouth half-open.
Ms. Newman rubbed at the bridge of her nose, her patience dwindling more and more each passing day of having to deal with the young woman.
"Ms. Newman," the professor stated through gritted teeth. "And yes, Roxanne, I was talking to you."
"Oh? Kay, 'bout what?" was the uninterested response.
Before she could explode, the ringing bell signaling the end of the class brought the college professor back to reality. "Remember to read the text on page 72 for the next class!" she shouted over the sound of everyone leaving. Her gaze went back towards where the annoying blonde sat; only to find an empty seat because she had already left.
Sighing, Ms. Newman walked over to her desk, getting her things ready to leave for the day. She cleaned off the chalk marks from her pants, checking to see if any other spot was missing. Her outfit was sensible, if a bit drab. A white blouse that hid her chubby figure, and some nice-ish brown slacks that hugged her hips too tightly. Her black flats finished her modest look.
As she was about to leave, she noticed Roxanne's desk was a mess, as usual. Among the scattered notes and candy wrappers was a brightly colored pen with a fluffy pom-pom attached to it.
With a hint of irritation, Ms. Newman picked up the pen and sat on the edge of the desk. She twirled it between her fingers, thinking of the countless times she had reprimanded Roxanne for her disruptive behavior.
She held the pen up, mimicking Roxanne's with exaggerated mannerisms. In a high-pitched, nasally voice, she said, "Oh look at me, I'm Roxanne! I always chew bubblegum really fucking loudly during class because I want to be the centre of attention~" Looking down, she saw there was still a piece of gum laying among the empty wrappers.
