First Date
This story will seem incredible, but it is true.
I am an accountant by trade and was smart enough to get a job in private industry so I wouldn't have to lose four months every year doing tax returns. About thirty years ago I lived in the Midwest with a nice job as an accounting supervisor for a hospitality company. I was living in one of those extended living facilities as I was waiting for the workmen to finish building my new townhome.
Since I was tired of the bar scene, (I can't drink-medication), I decided to join one of those dating services. I had some very nice dates but nothing serious, so I kept trying. I then got a message from the service that I had gotten a like from someone. The next evening I stopped by the agency to check it out.
The woman's name was Diane, she was about 5'6" and thin. She had brown eyes and light brown hair and wore big glasses. Her smile if it you could call it that was thin and forced with a thin nose to boot. Her profile said she was a first grade teacher and (warning sign) an ex-nun! Her only interest seemed to be singing in the church folk group. Since profiles don't tell the whole story I decided to meet her.
The first warning sign was when I called her to set up the date from the agency office and I was told that she expected me to be in my Sunday best. I don't mind wearing a suit and tie and in fact I look good wearing one so that wasn't an issue. The next "request" was that I was to pick her up and meet her parents beforehand. I told her that we should come separately so that if it didn't work out either of us could end the date and leave. As for meeting her parents this wasn't senior prom. To my surprise she accepted anyway.
The following Saturday night I met Diane at a local eatery, It wasn't the most expensive place in town, but it wasn't Denny's either. She was outside smoking a cigarette ( big turn-off) and I introduced myself.
