It was about 10:30 at night and I was doing nothing much at the apartment. I had smoked a bit earlier in the evening and started to feel the munchies. I walked over to the fridge and took inventory a half empty twelve pack of IPAs, a nearly full bottle of vodka, and some very questionable leftovers. I checked the cabinet and found some saltines and a stick of beek jerky. None of that was going to work so I put on shoes and walked down the local convenience store. It was a cool summer night and I was bumming a bit with an old hoodie and a pair of worn khaki shorts that ended right below the knees. Slightly stumbling, I made my way and walked in. I perused the items and selected a two liter of knock off Mountain Dew, some chips, and a couple of hot dogs.
I went up to the counter to pay and I was fourteen cents short and saw that the take a penny tray was not going to help me out. As I was about to turn around and put something back, a small arm reached past me and dropped a quarter on the counter in front of me. I turned around to see who the kind stranger was.
I met his eyes as I looked back. "Hey man, thanks. I appreciate that," I said hazily.
"You're very welcome." His slightly effeminate voice threw me for a loop, so I took a quick second to look him up and down. He stood at no more than five foot two. He was very slender, practically petite even. He wore skinny jeans that hugged his tiny little frame and a slightly looser black button-up short sleeved shirt. I looked at his face I could immediately tell he was some flavor of asian, but it was unclear. His hair was jet black and hung slightly over the side of his forehead with a red streak of dye around the ends. He smiled as he eyed me as well.
"I'm Zak, but please call me Zakii," he held his hand out slightly limp and I grabbed it to shake it firmly. I felt a weird tension in his grasp but I thought little of it.
"I'm Sam, nice to meet you." I turned back around to pay for my items but kept myself to the side since I could tell he wanted to converse.ainpaid for my items and moved over to let him to the counter. He put the contents of his hands on the counter - chapstick, a green tea, and a pack of mint chewing gum. He turned to me as he paid.
"Looks like you're having a quiet night at home," he said playfully as he looked at my clothes.
"Yeah, I'm not doing shit tonight. Might go home and have a couple of beers and chill." I said lackadaisically, obviously high to the casual observer. "Looks like you're going out tonight."
He finished his purchase and started walking towards the door and I walked with him. "Yeah, I was going to go out with some friends but they canceled on me. So now I don't know what to do." We exited the store one after the other.
"That sucks man. I guess it's a quiet night for you too." I said. "It was great meeting you but I'm going to head home and play some video games or watch a movie."
"What movie are you planning on watching?" the question put me off but I answered.
"Probably an old classic 80s action movie. Kind of want to watch The Terminator again."
"Ooh the original? That's the best one." he responded.
"Right? You wanna watch too? I got a few beers and some weed at the house."
