HalloweenβEpilogue
The Far East
The jet touched down in Seattle on the next to last leg of our journey of visiting regional offices in the Far East Division; Manilla, Hong Kong, Hanoi, Seoul and Tokyo before heading home after the final stop in Seattle. We have been traveling for two weeks and the trip was exhausting but necessary and highly rewarding. Adriana, the Head of the Far East Division, worked with these offices daily and knew the regional heads intimately but rarely met on a face-to-face basis, and it was my first trip traveling as her Assistant Division Head and meeting most for the first time. She has led the team operating the most profitable division of Abdel's business empire for over the year since Danielle was fired, and commanded respect not simply by consistently obtaining fantastic results but also by the fair and even-handed treatment of subordinates, suppliers, and subcontractors. People were never bullied or threatened by withholding payments for goods and services rendered, and never rewarded without earning it. We were a good team, and we also shared a personal history that cemented the bond.
Arriving at the hotel late in the afternoon as we did wasn't ideal, but it allowed us some time to decompress. My preferred option was some light exercise, swimming for 20 minutes if the hotel had a pool and 15 to 20 minutes in the steam room or sauna; Adriana liked more rigorous exercise regimen and a steam or sauna, followed by a cold martini. We usually shared a suite of rooms to make communication easier and also give us the chance to have some time together at the end of the day to debrief. Separate bedrooms also allowed some privacy if we chose not to spend the night together, which was rare. We had companionship when we wanted it and privacy if we needed it.
We were tired after days in different cities and time zones, and what seemed like never-ending meetings, so Adriana suggested a room service supper and a quiet evening with an early bedtime. It didn't take much convincing for me to agree so I unpacked my bag, took a hot shower, got into some comfortable loungewear and walked into the living area, calling to Adriana as I went. "Adriana, are you settled in?" I asked quietly.
"Yes, Rachelle, I'm just drying off and getting my robe. I've made a couple of martini's so we can put our feet up and relax for a while if you're so inclined."
When Adriana walked in she was wearing her Jade Green satin robe, nothing luxurious or sexy, just a simple yet elegant robe that fit her loosely although it clung to her in all the right places. Her hair was wrapped in a towel and she looked absolutely beautiful, fresh from the shower and without makeup.
"Wow! I don't know if I have told you this before but you have a way to get comfortable that makes you look gorgeous," I exclaimed. "I am so jealous you have no idea."
"If you're trying to butter me up so that you can sneak into my bed tonight, please stop because it's not working," she replied with a smile.
I walked up to her and used the knuckle of my index finger to gently rub her nipple, saying, "But I get so lonely at night and would love to have your hot body next to mine. I promise to let you sleep."
"Must you always be such a whiny little bitch?" she replied with mock anger. "I could have had anyone in the organization to work with me and I get saddled with a wimpy cling-on. Why did I get stuck with you?"
"I think that you liked the way that I licked your pussy, Miss Adriana," I said with a pouty face and downcast eyes.
We both burst out laughing, the first real laugh that we shared since our trip began, and Adriana acknowledged this feeling when she hugged me. "I've missed this, I've missed you," she said quietly. "It's been a rough trip, something that I would have struggled with on my own, but you made it tolerable in difficult circumstances and pleasant when I was feeling stressed. We are good together, and I value you more than I can say." With those words she leaned in and kissed me on the lips.
"Rachelle, please get our drinks and bring them to the sofa coffee table and I will be right there," Adriana said while walking to her bedroom. As requested, I refreshed our drinks and after placing them on the coffee table, sat on the sofa waiting for Adriana while looking out the door of the terrace.
When she returned she was smiling and carrying a small nicely wrapped package and proceeded to sit next to me. "Rachelle, we have been working together for over a year and I want to tell you that you are the most important person in my life right now. Abdel has said many times that we make a good team in business and many others have acknowledged the same sentiment. But for me it is more than that and I believe that you know it. My life would not be the same without you and this trip proved it to me."
"Adriana, I am yours, you know that. There is never a question of you being without me; we are like a shark and a pilot fish, which may not the most thrilling analogy but the only one that comes to mind right now."
"In business, yes, I see that, but that is only part of it. There are times when we go our separate ways and more often than not, I find myself thinking about you when I am alone, and I realize that there is a hole in my life when you are not there to fill it.
"We have been traveling together for over two weeks and you have given me everything that I could have ever wanted from anyone. You have been a friend, a confidant, a lover, a colleague, a true partner in life. I trust you like I could not or would not trust anyone else and I would like the world to know how I feel."
Adriana gave the package to me and took my hand. "I had this made by a person in Hong Kong and I picked it up while we were there. I gave it a lot of thought and you should know that it is special to me."
