About 3 months ago, I started to go to the flea market a few blocks from my house. I was looking for something new to do when I was bored, and I found they had several shops I liked to browse. They had a booth selling coins, a booth selling 2
nd
hand tools, a booth selling handmade wood items, and a few others.
It was probably my third or fourth visit when I wandered into a booth that was on the eclectic side. They had household gadgets; 2
nd
hand clothing including a large selection of 2
nd
hand sneakers. I was browsing through the booth when out of the corner of my eye, I noticed a pair of sneakers walking by that caught my attention.
I noticed them since they were not a common pair to see people wearing. From where I was, I could only see the person from the knees down below some displays. They had a pair of jeans, and the sneakers were a pair of Converse Run Star Motion.
I wanted to see what the person wearing them looked like and hoped it was going to be a great-looking woman. I slowly worked my way over and when I rounded the corner, I was disappointed to find it was a thin guy, with bleached blonde hair and looked a little on the feminine side.
I still wanted to get a better look at the Converse, so I loitered a little while and I then noticed the guy was wearing black fingernail polish. I thought that odd but focused on the Converse as his feet moved around.
After a minute or so of loitering near him, I went on with strolling the rest of the booth and the flea market.
I kept thinking about those Converse on him after I left and a few days later I went back to the flea market and made it a point of visiting that booth again. I kept my eyes down and kept hoping for those Converse to come into view again.
After wandering the booth, I decided to check out the 2
nd
hand sneakers they had and as I was looking through to see if there were any unique ones to add to my collection I saw movement to my left. I looked up and on the other side of the display was the guy.
I worked my way around looking at the sneakers as I went until I was able to see his feet. He was not wearing Converse, but he was wearing a pair of Superga Cotu in navy blue. He was wearing jeans again and the sneakers worked well with them, and I admired how they looked on his feet.
I was not sure why his sneakers were having this effect on me, as I typically only enjoy seeing them on the feet of women. I covertly looked at his sneakers for a while and how they moved on his feet, then worked my way out of the booth and walked the flea market.
I went home and was thinking about his Converse and now Superga and I started to plan a return trip to see if he might wear any other sneakers that I liked. I waited three days before the urge drove me to return. I went directly to the booth and directly to the sneaker section. I started to browse through and pick up several ladies' sneakers until I noticed him walk up to the display.
He went through the display straightening out the sneakers and making sure they were paired. I discreetly worked my way around the display until his feet came into view. He was wearing jeans again and this time he was wearing a pair of Superga Cotu in white. They had some wear and tear on them, so they were not pure white at this point. I watched as he moved, and they flexed on his feet.
I was getting ready to leave when I heard, "Can I help you find a specific sneaker?"
I was going to ignore him and walk away, but I stopped and turned around, I looked at him and said, "I was just browsing, not looking for anything specific."
I glanced down at his Superga then back up and said, "I guess I will check back in a few days."
I went to turn around and I heard him say, "Let me show you some I put aside for myself, but if you like, you could buy them."
I looked at him and for some reason, I wanted to see what he wanted to show me.
I smiled, "Ok, let's see what you have."
He turned and walked away, and I followed him to the register area. Once there he pulled a small box out from under the counter, he first pulled out a pair of white Converse Move, then reached back in the box and pulled out a pair of all-white Converse All-Star Lugged.
I imagined seeing him wearing them and was getting hard thinking about it. I was not sure why it was happening, so I decided to leave since I was starting to feel uncomfortable with the situation. I looked up at him and said, "I think you should get them."
He smiled and asked, "So you don't want them then?"
I shook my head no and said, "Nah, I think you should get them if you like them."
He smiled and said, "Ok, just thought I would offer. I'll tell you what. Will you be around for another hour?"
I looked at him and wasn't sure what the point was and asked, "Why?"
