It's Too Hot (number 1)
It was a scorcher, well in English terms, probably other countries would say it was pleasant but to George it was too hot. He was at home, Emily, his wife, had gone to work. She had been complaining about the heat as soon as she got out of bed this morning.
George had today off. George and Emily managed to be at home together one morning a week. But they were always home in the evenings and overnight.
George had dressed for the day, t-shirt and shorts with his flip flops sort of on his feet as he shuffled around the house. Domestic duties done he headed outside.
The house was small. They lived on a terrace, everyone connected, everyone cheek to jowl. It was beneficial in winter as they all had heaters going and the warmth spread a bit.
Today was the opposite. They could not open their front doors or windows as they never knew who was walking past. They opened upstairs windows and the back door. One benefit was although warm there was no direct sun, so no sunburn or sunstroke.
George got out his folding chairs and sat down in the backyard, no gardens, just concrete..
He waited.
"George, are you there?"
That was Mike. He could not see him but he knew that he was on the other side of their fence.
George unbolted the gate and let Mike in.
George laughed.
"Aren't you hot?"
Mike was wearing a long sleeved vest and jogging bottoms.
Mike always wore jogging bottoms but he never jogged. The joggers were elastic waist and soft material. They were comfortable.
George went back into his kitchen and found two cans containing larger beer. Tea and coffee were too warm for this weather. Well that is what they told their wives.
They settled in and chatted. There was nothing really important to say, it was just what they had seen on TV or red on their computers and phones.
Mike kept smirking and George waited. There must be some great joke to come.
George began to get cross.
"All right, what is the big joke?"
Mike smiled, pleased to have wound his mate up.
"It was very hot and sticky last night. So I said to Sharon, how uncomfortable I was down there."
George looked at him.
"Down where?"
Mike pointed between his legs.
"So Sharon says to me that she had just the right thing. She disappeared and came back. I got changed and it is a marvel, so comfortable."
George was still confused.
