Larry messaged me on a Saturday morning, saying that evening, he and Jon would be in the pool.
"Bring your swim trunks, and let's hang out," he added as I was getting out of bed.
I had a long week at work, and the triple digits in temperature made doing things outside unforgiving. Add the fact I had nothing else lined up for it was just too hot to connect with anyone in the Central Valley.
"After the pool, he and I may fire up the grill, do some steaks if you're down," he told me with the added incentive.
A few hours passed into the hottest point of the day, and I looked through the blinds to see the two of them dipping into the pool. I decided to leave the comforts of an air conditioned room and joined them, as I noticed some old school country western blaring through speakers in the backyard. The vibes were jubilant as the two of them were waddling in the water, just swimming around, cracking jokes and drinking sodas and so I wanted to do the same.
"Hey hey, there he is," Jon yelled out as he saw me approach.
I came out in Navy workout shorts and nothing else, then dipped into the shallow end, before stepping, and swimming into the middle of a bowl that ranged to the depths of 10 feet. The water felt wonderful, and I loved showing off my black bear body to the both of them, as Jon already experienced what they witnessed.
"You are one sexy motherfucker," Larry would say. "You hear that often?"
"Thank you, and I don't," I told him as it was flattering.
"You know, you're the only one of the three in that house that ever comes over here," Larry stated.
The two other guys rarely came out other than to go to work or the store, and they weren't the most social, so I understood why their appearance was scarce. We'd swim around and trade barbs about ourselves, and after an hour or so, we ended up having a conversation about my time in the Navy, and why I chose that particular branch.
"I was making all the wrong decisions," I told them.
I was selling narcotics prior to putting on the uniform when it dawned on me one day I wanted to go to college, I wanted to see the world. This was my only hope before I would've crashed out and done something I couldn't recover from. I shared some of the situations I was in prior to going to Great Lakes unabashedly, but in the back of my mind thinking they'd ask me to leave their property that evening.
"We had our share of hiccups, too," Jon added. "The biggest being that we were both married, to women, with kids, when we got romantically involved.
My mouth gaped while Larry floated backwards, acted as if he didn't hear what rolled off Jon's lips of their indiscretion.
"I'd known him for 49 of my 61 years," Jon added. "He was actually my first, but of course, with us being Catholic, it was frowned upon for men to be with men. This man knows me better than anyone."
Jon went further into detail of how they lived lies, trying to hide the urge to be with another man, and fostering a marriage, biological children, and later grandchildren as the two of them would yield 13 collectively.
"I have four daughters all here in California, and Larry has two sons, and two daughters," Jon added before notating the kids love to fuck.
"Well, they got it honest," I joked before they both splashed me in water.
"We got caught kissing in the back of that 1981 Ford Mustang you see out front," Larry said to me. "We told our wives, then our kids, and nothing was messy for we always took care of our families, and our wives were genuine friends, before we ever got intimate."
I listened to their stories to catch the happy ending, with the looks on their faces as confirmation, in addition to the joking on each other's shortcomings.
"Jon has a small cock, so I knew off the rip he'd bottom," Larry quipped.
"And Larry cums too fast, so that's another hiccup," Jon answered.
They were in love, frick and frack as their chemistry was overly apparent. It stirred envy from me as that was something I could see myself enduring over time. We'd talked so long and got comfortable with each other that the sun was dropping, and Larry would depart the pool briefly as he mentioned he needed to take his medicine.
