"You have a firm handshake, Marty. I like it. John told me that you are quite an interesting fellow and a fast learner. My name is Cameron but everyone calls me Cam, so you should too," the short, wide man said as John had made the introductions. He looked like he had enjoyed his food and drink, but also worked out quite a lot in his past at least. He was at least in his sixties. Cam and I sat down on one side of John's corner sofa. He was wearing a pale blue shirt with tan slacks and his jacket was open. He was also noticeably bald but carried himself confidently.
John introduced me as his protΓ©gΓ© he had spotted from a university-industry collaboration campaign. He told Cam that he was showing the ins and outs of the business. I almost blushed when I thought about the double implications that were flying around. "And as you know, I don't have my own company anymore so Marty has to settle for the second best. Of course I thought about you, Cam." John finished with a verbal rib at his mate.
We discussed some topics related to the work Cam might have available and he would put me in touch with a team leader that was short of helping hands. It was settled then and there that I would be working there when the time came for it.
We enjoyed a nice dinner prepared by John. Cam sipped on a whiskey in the living room and I helped out with setting some things on the table. Everything was well prepared so there was hardly anything to do. When we were both out of earshot in the kitchen I told John that he should have asked me to come and help him earlier because it seemed he had done all this just to convince his friend about my trainee position.
"That is exaggerating the fact a bit. I know Cam from way back. As soon as I asked if he would take you it was settled. I have never given him a raw deal. I just thought it would be nice to catch up with old and new friends and enjoy some good food, you know?" John answered and patted me on my butt.
"Lucky that your friend doesn't see us do that," I told John.
"Oh he wouldn't mind. You don't know it but he is widowed and quite lonely. With your permission I would not like to keep our thing a secret from him. But only with your approval I will let him know." John said politely.
I blushed with the thought, and was stunned for a moment until John made a gesture to get me moving out of the kitchen and start setting the plates. As I was setting the dishes on the table I noticed Cam a little differently. Was he catching glimpses of my ass and body while I wasn't looking his way? I decided to test it out a bit when I reached over the table and strained to place a napkin to the other side. I lifted my ass a little and checked the reflection from a nearby paintings glazing. Sure enough Cam was looking straight at my Jeans covered ass. At least he was keeping a straight face.
As I turned he quickly lifted his eyes to meet mine and smiled, commenting smoothly on the fine selection of John's choice of refreshment. I mirrored his expression with a slightly crooked smile and asked if he needed a refill or anything else. Before Cam could say anything else, John appeared from the kitchen with the food and we all sat down to enjoy our dinner. Of course, John opened a nice red to enjoy with the main course.
John and Cam were making casual small talk about how business was running and trying to include me in the conversation but I soon gave up on trying to say something smart and just enjoyed listening to them talk. The food was great and the wine was quickly making an effect on me. The pours were generous and before long another bottle had appeared on the table. Everyone was having a nice time but Cam noticed that I had been quiet for a while and asked if I had any plans for the coming weekend.
"Not really, I haven't really had time to think about it with everything that's been going on." I answered. "And don't worry about me I enjoy listening and learning about the field at the same time. It's like I getting the inside scoop on the industry."
"Well we might be a little out of touch about the latest and greatest developments but the basics really never change do they? But we need more smart young guys like you to take over after we old dogs are gone," Cam commented.
"Why don't you two sit in the living room and continue the conversation with some fresh drinks? I know Cam will have another whiskey for dessert, how about you Marty?" John asked as he was gathering the plates. "And don't even think about it, I will clean up and you will entertain my guest," he winked at me.
"Oh, if you are sure.. I can have another glass of wine. It's really good!" I said and moved a little shakily towards the couch.
