The sequel to The Biggest Dick I Have Ever Seen.
After Char moved for his promotion, my life was never the same. Everyday walking into work was deflating and lonely, because he wasn't there. I don't know if anyone in the office ever knew or every suspected, we were dating, but if they did, they never said anything. I was lonely and bored and missing my boyfriend so I put myself out on several dating sites. My thought process was to find someone else to fall in love with and develop a great relationship with. I had gone out on a few dates. Had some sexual experiences with other men, but nothing that gathered my attention like Char did. I even sucked the biggest dick I had ever seen in my time with Brett. But nothing changed the way I was feeling.
I was hoping to be promoted to Char's position as manager. But those hopes and dreams were quickly squashed when the company decided to bring in this rather vile, loud mouth, fucking ignorant woman from a completely different division to head a group and a section of the company she knew nothing about. I was still the number two in the group, but I figured that wouldn't last long. I hated working for her and being in that office without Char sucked. I stayed at the Big Credit Card company for a while just mustering through the daily doldrum, trying to find love, trying to find hope and trying to find inspiration, but it was a relentless year (or so) of monotonous.
Fortunately, one afternoon my cousin, who has been on the Los Angeles Fire Department for a while texted me, telling me the city was giving an entry level Fireman's test and applications were available. I really wasn't interested in becoming a fireman and really didn't want to end up working alongside of him, but I figured, if it gets me out of here, I'll go for it.
I filled out the application and went through the testing process and believe it or not; I actually got hired. When I had my academy start date, I walked into the vicious bitch's office and told her to go fuck herself, grabbed my shit and walked out right in the middle of a "usual daily" cluster fuck. It was a happy day!!!
I went through the academy and was stationed at one of the northern most fire houses in the city of Los Angeles. My first few weeks there were rough, but I was making more money than at the big credit card company, was eligible for a pension some 20 + years later and only had to work 24 hours on, followed by 48 hours off. It was actually -- in the long run -- not too bad of a job and of a career choice.
About a year into my assignment; and just about every day I worked we were dispatched to the Franklin residence. Joanne Franklin (God rest her soul) was an 87-year-old female who lived with her only son Robert (Robbie) and his husband Nicholas (Nikki). Joanne was suffering through high hypertension, heart disease and emphysema. She was at God's front door, but for whatever reason, he would never open it for her. The ambulance crew would go there and render her aid. Most days we'd end up transporting her to the hospital where she'd stay a day or two, be sent back home, only to call us a few days later for the same routine. I felt bad for her and I felt bad for Robbie having to deal with her illness and constant care needs.
After responding there countless times helping Joanne, Robbie and I (along with Nikki) developed a bit of a friendship. Since I felt I was gay, or at least knew I liked men more, I had a soft spot for them. I had come to appreciate their love for one another and even back then, as forward thinking as a lot of the world was, I heard many "locker room" jokes about them and almost repulsive comments from some of my co-workers. So, I always treated them with a bit more respect, kindness and compassion than a lot of my co-workers did. And even though they knew all the fire department members by name, but they always seemed to have a deeper connection and conversation(s) with me.
The last call there was detrimental to all of us. One early morning the tones went off and we heard the address, but this time it came out as, "an unresponsive 87-year-old female." We hauled ass over, rushed through the door, but this time there was nothing we could do. Joanna had passed away overnight. All the fire department members extended deep sympathies to Robbie and Nikki and our hearts went out to them, because her long battle, but we all knew their long tedious care taking issues were over. I thought about them a lot over the next few weeks, but as time went on and our calls were for others ensued, they drifted from my thoughts.
That is until I ran cross Robbie at the drug store not to far from my house. It had been months since I had seen him and it was rather nice when he approached me and engaged in a conversation that didn't revolve around his mother. Robbie said he missed all of us coming by, but was thinking about me specifically for a while and hoped I was doing well. By the time we both checked out and entered into the parking lot, he said to me, "You're more than welcome to come by anytime. Nikki and I would love to have you hang out."
I didn't know if he was being polite or felt he "knew something more about me" than anyone else had picked up on. But I thanked him for his offer and got into my car. Just as I was starting to pull out of the parking spot, Robbie came walking back up to my car window. I rolled it down and he stood there nervously trying to find his words. He blurted out, "Hey look, Nikki and I are having a Halloween party this Saturday. A costume party, I mean. If you'd like to come, if you're not working, we'd love to have you."
"Yah, okay." Was my response. "I think I can make it."
"Well, you know the address. It'll start about 8." He spoke. "Bring someone along, if you like. I mean anyone your dating, or whatever."
I nodded my head in agreement and drove away. I wasn't too keen on going, because I don't feel you should mingle with the people you serve in your district. But I had no plans for the weekend, no boyfriends, no adventures to go on and it was Halloween weekend.
Let me just take a minute and describe Robbie and Nikki so you understand what they look like. Robbie was 51 when I met him. He is about 6'1 tall, with salt and pepper hair. He has a tall lanky build, that is not muscular, but toned. He is clean shaven and always dresses really nice. He is soft spoken and always willing to listen. He isn't overly out, or feminine and seems like he was a stud in high school with sports, cars, and girls. Well girls until he discovered he liked boys.
Nikki on the other hand is a bit shorter, about 5'09. He is 47, with thick dark hair. He has a chunkier build, but is not fat or big boned. He almost reminds me of Chris O'Donnell from the Batman movies from years ago. He has that same face and hair style and is an all-around good guy.
Now I don't know who is the "girl" of the relationship, or if they are both versatile. And to be honest I never even thought about it, since meeting them, because I had no sexual interest in either. I wasn't looking to date either one of them, they were together and I was out dating in my own capacity. In all aspects, they were just citizens I served.
As nervous and uneasy as I was about attending their party, because it was in my district, I decided I wanted to go. I couldn't decide on a costume and didn't want to drop a small fortune on something I may only wear once; or only for a while, if this party ended being a bust. I put on some old doctors' scrubs, with my plastic crocks. I had a stethoscope around my neck with the surgeon's hair protector over my head and a doctor's prescription pad sticking out of my doctor's lab coat.
I arrived at Robbie and Nikki's place about 8:30. I always like to be a little late to these things. I hate being the first person at the party. When Robbie opened the door for me, he was dressed in a Roman God's style toga costume. He had this long flowing white robe on, with a golden belt around the middle. He had a leafy golden crown around the top of his head and brown beach sandals strapped around his feet. In the distance behind him I could see Nikki who was wearing the same thing. I almost laughed because I thought it was cute, they were wearing the same thing.
"Holy cow! You made it!" Robbie blurted out. "Come on in."
Robbie introduced me to everyone there, like I was the king of the world. He kept building me up, "This is Danny, he works for L.A. FD, he helped save my mom so many times."
Throughout the night I met with a bunch of Robbie and Nikki's friends. There wasn't anyone there from work (thank God), but I did see a host of straight couples, gay couples, single men and single women. He had a nice crowd at the party and all of the costumes were incredible. Even though I didn't know anyone there, I managed to talk and hold conversations with a host of people and had a good time.
But the end of the night took an interesting and rather sexual turn.
As the crowd started to thin, I was helping Robbie and Nikki clean up, putting food away, taking decorations down and finishing my beer. I ended up being the last person at the party. I was standing with them in the kitchen, behind the island counter as they both were sitting at the dining room table.
Let me just take a moment to interject that; as she aged and her health declined, Joanne never updated anything in the house. The carpets, the drapes and furniture reminded me of the Brady's house. The kitchen was the proverbial 1980's kitchen that was U shaped. With the start on the one side with the fridge to counter top. Turn the corner to the sink with a window looking out. Turn the next corner for the five foot long attached "island counter" that completed the U, with storage cabinets underneath.
The counter tops were white with gold and silver inlays, which were all kinds of worn out. The floor, peel and stick 12-inch squares the color of a faded cardboard box. The "island" of course divided the dining room from the kitchen and in the dining room sat a 4-to-6-person table, brown, with wooden chairs. It was surely a blast from the past. A great house. Roomy and spacious, but so outdated that a contractor might throw up looking at it.
But as I stood behind the "Island Divider" taking with Robbie and Nikki, I started to get a strange feeling. Robbie's robe was open a bit showing the upper part of his left leg. I started to wonder if he had anything on underneath. Nikki sat gawking at me and just listening to the conversation Robbie and I were having.
"Danny, you didn't bring anyone with you tonight! Where is your girlfriend?" He asked.
