SILVER FOX
Chapter 10: Shots fired
I did not sleep that night. At all.
I just stayed in my bed, my eyes wide opened, staring at the ceiling.
I was wondering how I could justify my behaviour and, more importantly, how I could look Nick in the eyes the next morning.
It was the worst timing since we had our meeting on the new construction site with the Porters and the rest of the crew.
I seriously considered calling sick but I had never done that in more than 28 years of work and I decided that I would not start being a coward now.
Hiding had never been my style.
Besides, it was pretty clear that Nick would be as mortified as I was, if not more.
After all, he was the one shoving a big dildo up his ass and running a secret porn page. Me? Most people knew that I was a FansVips' creator already!
Although, I admit, it was totally sus to pay and watch my own co-worker anonymously, and I was not proud of it.
Hence, the severe lack of sleep... I even felt bad for Nick.
I arrived on the worksite first.
It was an abandoned factory that the city-hall wanted to turn into an indoor market. Our job would be to take care of re-doing the entire water and pipes' system from the outside. Tedious as hell.
I checked my phone as I was waiting for the others.
I tried to distract myself from my own thoughts.
It did not work. The first thing I noticed was that Nick had blocked Logan's account from accessing his FansVips.
"Fuck..." I muttered in my beard.
He was pissed. I could not be mad at him for it.
Maybe it would be better if Nick were to arrive before the others and we could have a chat. As much as I dreaded this conversation, we had to rip the bandage off.
But this was, of course, a delusional thought. Nick arriving on site before Jimmy and the crew was simply not a thing that would happen.
And indeed, my best buddy was there about ten minutes after me, way before Nick showed up.
"Ready for the big meeting with our two bosses?" Jim said as he greeted me.
"I cannot wait..." I replied sarcastically.
"I don't mind the site but if we have to handle the Porters, father and son, and Nick for an entire month, this might become hell. Do you reckon we could take care of this, just the two of us?"
I was feeling exactly the same.
"I'm not sure, I think the old Porter wants Mike to get his hands in the dirt. Not a bad strategy to teach him how to run this freaking company... If you want my opinion, it's about time, but certainly a pain in the ass."
"Come on... If we have to train him, I might as well quit!" Jimmy whined.
I was generally the one making this kind of empty threats.
To be fair, in my case, those had not been so empty lately.
With the money I was making thanks to my side hustle, quitting had definitely become a viable option.
"Join me on FansVips and let's roll, buddy!" I spanked Jimmy's ass playfully.
I was certain he would do great on the app.
"Very funny, man... Oh shit, here they come."
The Porters were parking in front of the site in their van. Mike looked way less smug and self-entitled when he had his old man walking behind him.
That was the silver lining of this shitty day, seeing my young boss freaking out.
Nick would once again be scolded for being late. He arrived about fifteen minutes after the Porters.
For a minute there, I did think that Nick would never come, but he was here, looking tired and grumpy, but standing before me.
We toured the construction site and Mike gave us the instructions, while being ridiculously overseen (and often interrupted) by his own dad.
I thought this was deliciously humiliating but I had my own issues to worry about.
Nick was not looking at me and this was making me cringe. I could feel the tension in the air.
We had never been the best of friends, - to say the least -, but I was getting worried that someone would understand that something was different.
Besides, I hated letting things unspoken.
Let's have a big fight once and for all, and be done with it! Right?
As luck or fate would have had it, Nick and I were assigned by Mike to work on one side of the factory in ruins and to check on the current pipes system.
We needed to assess if there was anything we could salvage.
Nick looked gloomy as fuck walking there and I had a growing sick feeling in the pit of my stomach.
"Dude... We should talk." I mentioned at some point.
He remained silent, still very consistently avoiding to look at me.
I puffed.
"Come on, Nick... Let's be adults about this. It's not that big of a deal."
"Fuck you, man." He whistled between his teeth.
"Okay. I deserve that, I guess. Is this everything you have to say about the matter? Can we move on?"
He finally turned around to face me.
"What do you want me to say, freak? I don't talk to perverts!"
"Don't you think that's a little rich coming from you?"
I was all for extending an olive branch but the cocky kid was testing me. I was just a paying customer after all!
"Whatever grandpa..."
"Grandpa is making more money than you ever will on those damn apps!"
"Yes, and he's spending it all on me. How should I call you now? Sugar daddy or something? Is this what you want?"
TouchΓ©.
He had a point there.
"Look, I'm sorry about not saying who I was. I stumbled on your page when I created mine and then, I don't know, I was curious."
"Curious? You're a big closeted homo, man!"
"First of all, who cares, you're homophobe now? And second of all, what does that make you? You didn't look so straight yourself last night, a dildo buried deep in your ass!"
His face became red.
I am not proud of my reaction.
It was a low-blow and Nick was nearly 27 younger than I was, - I should have been the bigger man, literally -, but he always found a way to get on my last nerve.
He was about to snap back at me when we were interrupted.
"What the hell is this bullshit about?!" The old Porter barked.
We had not realized, but right on the other side of the partially demolished brick wall, the rest of the crew was looking at us, in shock.
I was not sure how much of the argument they had heard but there was no doubt that it was too much.
"Nothing, chief..." I spoke.
