The uphill trail led to the most famous landmark in the country the Hollywood sign. Who hasn't seen it or at least heard of it? It even has sad history. In September 1932 24 year old actress Peg Entwistle jumped to her death from atop the "H". I had just then heard about the incident for the first time.
The morning of 16 September, 90 years to the day since her unfortunate death, sees Ted, my boyfriend, and me hiking at a moderate pace to the trails' end. The sun is at 10 o'clock. The sign seems to get bigger with each slow step. The thermometer registers 75 degrees causing us to sweat.
Ted Lennon is very much into the history of Hollywood. He knows the names of many of the famous movie stars, the movies they made and even who's gay. We had a long talk one day about that topic. I knew about Rock Hudson having AIDS but not much else about the town or the movie stars. Ted had informed me that Rock Hudsons' birth name is Roy Harold Scherer jr.
We stopped walking within a few steps. My lover came along side putting his left arm around me at the waist. We're both staring at a wall. The top of the "H" is too close to actually see the top.
"I feel like climbing that ladder."
Ted shook his head as though trying to discourage me from the attempt.
"I think it's strictly for the maintenance guys Hon. I think you can get arrested for trespassing."
"Haven't you ever done anything daring?"
"Not since I was a teenager," he replied.
Ted, age 31, was no doubt as wild as any teenager. I, on the other hand, can recall a not so crazy life.
We had actually met through a gay dating app about 5 months ago. We had posted pictures on Instagram and waved.
He's my height-5' 9" tall. He's a brawny dude with a light-brown buzzcut and blue eyes who looks absolutely gorgeous in speedos. His full lips are very kissable.
My hair is a darker shade of brown and my eyes are brown. My lips are thin and my nose upturned.
Can I get naked and climb that ladder to the top? How closely does security watch the place? For that matter, can I have sex on this path?
I set out for a spot behind the sign.
"You're not seriously considering climbing that ladder, are you?"
"Maybe," I quipped.
He elected to follow me, though not immediately.
Behind the "H" I pulled off my teeshirt, took my hiking shoes off then my pants. I turned my head to find Ted standing there grinning.
"You're not taking off your briefs?"
