We returned to the courtroom and got everything squared away rather quickly. That was the end of my part of the case, though Chris of course still had to figure out and prosecute whoever actually did break in to that apartment.
I walked over to the other side of the courtroom to shake Chris' hand, and he whispered to me, "I think you forgot something in the Judge's chambers. You'll have to go back and get it soon".
Releasing my hand, he said loudly, "Your honor, I have some motions for you to sign before moving forward with this case, if we can meet for a few minutes."
Judge Calhoun looked at Chris with a raised eyebrow, glanced quickly at me, and maintaining his gruff composure replied, "Fine, but make it quick counselor, some of us have lives to lead you know."
"Yes we do." I muttered under my breath.
While Chris followed the Judge back into his chambers, I took a few minutes to pack everything up, and give my client a call to let her know that she was off the hook.
Having taken care of all of that, I began to make my way back to the Judge's chambers, only to encounter his busty secretary, Julie, who informed me that the Judge was meeting with counsel and couldn't be disturbed. I assured her that I was really supposed to be a part of that meeting, but she wasn't buying it.
I was about to hike up my skirt and show Julie just how badly I needed to be in there, when the intercom buzzed.
"Julie?" Calhoun's voice rang out. "If Elsie, I mean Counselor Janice, stops by, please send her in. She's expected any time now".
