I brought my buddy home from college for spring break. Ramon was one of our college football players, he was a linebacker because he was so damn big. He was six eight and built like a brick wall and one of the biggest black guys I ever met. He and I hit it off at one of the frat parties on campus and we have been the best of buds ever since.
He looked pretty damned nervous as I pulled into my parents drive way.
"Are you okay Ram?" I asked.
"Yeah I'm fine I guess. Maybe we should have told your parents we were coming Chad instead of springing it on them like this."
"Ah relax for fuck sake, this is my home my parents don't need a warning."
The front door opened and my stepmom stepped out on the porch. Carmen looked drunk as usual. She suddenly smiled and hurried down the steps, "CHAD!!!"
I opened the drivers door and caught her as she threw her arms around me, cigarette in one hand and glass of Vodka in the other. She kissed me on the cheek, "I didn't know you were coming home, Sweetie!"
"I wanted to surprise you and dad."
"Well I'm certainly surprised but as for your father he isn't here at the moment."
"Where is he?" I asked.
She rolled her blue eyes and shrugged, "Japan, Germany..." she brushed back her shoulder length blond, "he's on one of his monthly meetings. Maybe he's France, I can't keep up with him. You know his schedule he comes home and poof he's gone again."
I nodded and laughed, "Typical dad shit, right?"
Carmen starts laughing too.
Someone clears their throat and I look over to see Ram standing next to the passenger door.
"Oh shit! Mom this is Ramon. He's one of my college buddies."
The smile left Carmen's face and she looked stunned, "Hi?"
Ram stepped around the car and walked up to her and extended a meaty hand.
She looked at me and then at Ram's hand and she placed her hand in his. Her hand looked child-like as he brought it up and kissed the back of it.
I saw Carmen shudder and she smiled, "You're a big boy aren't you?"
Ram didn't mind the boy word he grew up in south Georgia. He released her hand with a big ol grin on his face.
"Ramon is a Linebacker, he has to be big mom." I interjected.
"Oh my! Yes you're right about that, Chad. I bet the cheerleaders just love you Ramon." Carmen said giving him her best set of flirty eyes.
"You can call me Ram. I hate the name Ramon." he winks.
Carmen thrusts her arm under Ram's and she walks him to the front door, leaving me to get the suitcases. I almost laughed at the sight of them. Carmen is short at five foot even and petite at a hundred and fifteen pounds and it's needless to say she looked like a little girl walking beside Ram.
They disappear inside and I take the bags from the trunk and I walk into the house. I hear laughter coming from the kitchen. I lay the bags down and go into the kitchen and find Carmen making a sandwich for Ram. She puts it on a plate and lays it in front of him.
"What would you like to drink honey?"
"Do you have a beer."
"I sure do!" she said and opened the fridge and took out a long neck beer and brought it to him.
"Thank you, Carmen."
"Oh your welcome." she gushed.
"Wow I'll take a sandwich." I said sitting down at the table.
"Sweetie you can make your own."
Ram chortled and he looked at me and winked.
I smiled and shook my head, "I'll go put our bags in my room, Ram."
