Ronnie waited patiently at home for the phone to ring. She was lounging in Jolene's living room, scrolling through the few cable channels that Jolene had on her service. Ronnie had her mind made up that there were going to be a few changes once she moved in.
She was waiting to hear how she did at the latest competition out in Austin. It made her nervous that she was visiting so close to Austin, where Brent Mossing and his perfect little wife lived. Ronnie was also scared that Jolene might not have placed as high as she hoped. This show in San Antonio was her absolute last on the IIEF circuit. She had already placed fifth in Raleigh and fourth in Knoxville, much to Ronnie's chagrin and surprise. Jolene had pushed extra hard to get herself in shape, and Ronnie thought she looked gorgeous. It drove Ronnie even crazier when Jolene decided not to have sex for two weeks before she flew off to compete.
Ronnie's phone buzzed next to her, and she lunged to answer. "Hello? Hello?"
"Darling!" Jolene sounded out of breath. There was a great deal of yelling and blaring music in the background.
"Jo? That's you, right?" Ronnie held her finger up to her ear to try to listen in.
"Oh, let me get into a more private spot." There was a slam of a door and Jolene appeared to settle down. "Sweetie, I'm sorry that I didn't call sooner. I have been distracted by so many people today."
"How did you do?" Ronnie was gripping her legs close to her chest.
"Baby, how have you been?"
"How did you do?" Ronnie was pulling her hair.
"Did you go to the gym while I was away?"
"Jolene!" Ronnie was laughing and clawing at the couch. "
How did you do
?"
A long pause. "First."
Ronnie screeched and dropped the phone. "Oh, fuck!" She picked it up again. "You seriously won?"
"I couldn't believe it! I was the oldest competitor there entirely." Jolene sighed. "I think I stopped in time. I feel a bit tired."
"Oh, babe, that's so awesome," Ronnie told her. "Are you all partying now?"
"They're having a press party," Jolene replied. "I had a few interviews for blogs and a magazine." She sighed. "They said how proud they were of me for being a
senior
competitor."
Ronnie covered her mouth and held the phone away as she let out a laugh. "Oh, don't listen to them. You're just as young as the girl you feel."
Jolene laughed, and Ronnie was so relieved to hear her sweetie enjoying herself. "Thank you, dear," Jolene responded. "I have to tell you something. I'm going to Brent's house tomorrow."
Ronnie bit her lip. "I see."
"Honey will be there, too," Jolene cautioned. "I just wanted to say goodbye to him. We probably won't see each other ever again now that I'm not doing my shows." There was an uncomfortable pause. "Are you okay with that?"
Ronnie nodded, then realizing that Jolene could not see it, said, "I trust you."
Jolene laughed. "It's okay, dear! We're just having a little party is all. I'm assuming there will be other people there. I have no interest in Brent!"
Ronnie exhaled and pushed the hair out of her eyes. "Okay. I know I'm being stupid."
"I love you, silly," said Jolene. "What would Brent do with an old lady like me, anyway?"
Ronnie laughed. "You're
my
old lady is the point!"
"Of course I am!" Jolene sighed. "Sweetie, I have to leave now. Please, I love you deeply. I'll be home tomorrow night, okay?"
Ronnie gave kisses into the phone. "Take extra care, love. I'm really proud of you."
"I love you too, dearest!" Jolene hung up. Ronnie sat and looked at her phone for a minute, then heard the chime come in from her phone. Jolene had sent a picture in a text. Ronnie sighed as she saw Jolene, holding up a bicep while the other arm held up a giant silver trophy cup. She was smiling brightly, and looked more beautiful than Ronnie had ever seen, save for a few choice pictures from Cherry's latest pictorial.
Ronnie got up and walked to the bedroom, peeling off her clothes and letting them fall to the floor. She settled into Jolene's soft bed completely nude while she held up her phone with Jolene's latest picture on full display. She propped her legs up and rubbed at herself furiously, occasionally kissing her phone screen. "I am gonna fuck the shit out of you when you get home," she whispered, making herself come in three minutes.
The next morning, Jolene took her rented car over to Austin. She noticed that the driveway was empty. Brent's Corvette was missing from its usual spot.
She made her way up the walkway and rang the doorbell. Honey answered in shorts and a t-shirt.
"Hi, Honey!" Jolene looked around. "Aren't we having a party? Where's Brent?"
"Please come in," replied Honey in a dull tone. Jolene stepped into the lavish house. Honey went to sit on the couch, and Jolene joined her.
"Brent is cheating on me," Honey announced. Her face crumpled and she put her hands up to her mouth.
Jolene put a hand gently on Honey's shoulder. "How do you know?"
"He admitted it," came the whimpering reply. "It's some bimbo who works at the Red Rock location. Some...blonde bitch 22-year-old." Honey held her face in her hands.
Jolene made a face of surprise. Honey was a gorgeous fitness trainer and probably the nicest woman she had ever met. She put her arms around Honey and leaned her cheek on top of her friend's head. "What are you going to do now?" asked Jolene.
Honey pulled her head away and wiped at her eyes. Jolene reached out and got the box of tissues. "Thank you," managed Honey as she dabbed her tears away. "I guess we decide what to do with the house first. Brent took the car and left. He was so cold about it, Jo."
Jolene balled up her fists and sneered. "That
man
! Oh, I could just scream! I idolized him. I owe my whole lifestyle to him, and this is what he does?"
Honey blew her nose, then tried to laugh. "I don't suppose you slept with him too."
Jolene's mouth went wide. "Oh, I swear I never did! I mean, long,
long
ago I had feelings for him, but I would never betray your trust, dear."
Honey nodded. "I figured as much. I just...had to know for sure." She slapped her hands down on the couch. "Why is he doing this?"
Jolene sighed. "Men are hasty creatures. There are a lot of times I don't miss them." She growled. "I stood in
prayer circles
with that man!" She slapped her hands together. "Have you called a lawyer yet?"
"No! I don't know how to handle this!" Honey ran her hands through her hair. "I don't want this to happen."
Jolene took Honey's hands in her own. "No, don't let this happen to yourself. If he comes crawling back and begs forgiveness, do not fall for it. He's already betrayed your trust."
"What will I do with myself?" asked Honey. "I can't pay for this house on my own."
"You can sell the house," Jolene reassured her. "I know it will be painful. If I thought he was willing to reconcile with you, I would encourage it, but I see how he ran away..." She shook her head and sneered. "I would have never guessed that he was like this."
Honey blew her nose. "Is this what you had to do when you were divorced?"
"That's right," said Jolene. "My situation was very different. We had little wealth saved up, and he was in jail. It was easy to serve papers that way, and I had a lawyer provided to me. I was such a mess just because I had finished up with the surgery." She leaned back in the couch and rubbed the side of her face with the small scar. "I wish he had cheated on me instead." She gasped, realizing what she had said. "Oh, I don't mean to be so dismissive!"
"It's okay," Honey said, making a weak smile. "I know what you mean, though. I guess it could have been worse for me. It's just that we started to drift apart. I know he doesn't find me attractive anymore."
Jolene looked Honey up and down. This beautiful Asian doll had no conceivable flaws that Jolene could see. The side woman must have been a stunner.
"I will call a lawyer tomorrow, I promise," Honey assured Jolene. She held out her hands, and Jolene accepted her into her arms.
Jolene arrived back in Phoenix the next day at the airport, and Ronnie was there to pick her up. Ronnie made an emotional scene after seeing her fiancée after a full month of her being on the road. Jolene got her calmed down as they went out to Ronnie's Beetle. Ronnie drove them towards Jolene's house.
"It was so heartbreaking to hear about poor Honey," Jolene told her. "They were the perfect couple." She put her hands and her lap and shifted to look at Ronnie. "Do you know what I was going to ask Brent while I was out there?"
"Uh oh," said Ronnie, looking straight ahead.
"No, not like that," Jolene corrected. "I know you want a baby, and I would have asked if he would have been willing to donate his sperm."
Ronnie made a face of shock. "What? From Brent?"
"Well, why not?" asked Jolene. "He is a handsome, strong man, and he would have been very supportive of us."
Ronnie exhaled. "Yeah, but he's nearly an ex of yours! I mean, I know nothing happened. I don't know if I would have liked that."
"Oh, I'm sorry, dear," Jolene replied, sounding sad. "I really should have asked you first."
Ronnie was silent, then started to smirk. "So you would have liked Brent to give me some sperm, yeah?"
"That would have been nice."
Ronnie sputtered. "So, he could have deposited it several times, right?"
Jolene pondered. "I guess they have to do many treatments, sure."
Ronnie was chuckling. "Would you want to watch while it happened?"
