Hi!! This is my first story so it may be riddled with errors- haha! I fully encourage you all to be critical and leave comments with advice or critiques! <3
I sighed as my alarm woke me up,
c'est pas vrai,
its high pitched beep dragging me out of my slumber. I was dreading getting up and going to class. I had been in Seattle for a few months and while I was enjoying the fresh quirks of everyday life and my new friendships, homesickness was creeping up on me, I was beginning to miss my home country--France.
My small town, Le Porge, had nothing to do with the high rise buildings or the constant sound of cars honking at each other that plagued the city. I missed the quiet walks to my lycée and the abundance of fresh air.
I had recently turned 18 and not being able to celebrate with my friends and family back home was difficult.
C'est parti
, I forced myself out of bed and made my way to my bathroom, trying my best to not trip on the clothes I had left on the floor. I switched on the light and turned on the shower. I observed my face in the mirror, my brown eyes looked tired and my hair looked dull, a far cry from its usual long, loose curls. I tore off my pyjamas and unhooked my bra that held my decently sized breasts. I looked at my body, admiring my slightly tan skin that wrapped the soft curves of my body. I snapped back to reality and hopped into my steamy shower, not wasting another second.
20 minutes later I was dressed and coiffed, I had decided to wear a pale pink v-neck along with a frilly white skirt as it was unusually hot that day. I picked up my backpack and rushed downstairs to eat breakfast. My host family greeted me as I sat down at the table, "Today's the last day of school before spring break!" Anna said rather enthusiastically, she was my favourite person in Seattle so far, she made my stay there so much easier, we were both in our senior year in highschool and she made it a point to introduce me to everyone she knew, we'd often go out together downtown and talk for hours over coffee, she just got me. "Oh, right! That means Nate's coming back this afternoon, I always end up forgetting to tell you guys..." Lisa, Anna's mother answered before trailing off.
Ah non, putain, pas lui,
I hated Nathaniel or Nate as his friends would call him, it was most definitely mutual as he never even bothered to say more than 5 words at a time to me, if he did then it was to make fun of my French accent, which was practically nonexistent as my mother was from Maine and took pride in only speaking English at home. His cold stare was unnerving, he was the complete opposite of Anna but they were quite fond of each other. From time to time I'd indulge in teasing him for whatever slight mistake he happened to make in front of me, seeing him tense up as his anger rose was quite rewarding.
They looked quite alike, both were tall, Anna was around 5'9" and he was 6'2", they both were athletic but his body was on another level of muscular, both had brownish green eyes that stood out from their slightly pale skin. I'd be lying if I said that he wasn't extremely attractive. They had a 3 year age gap, at 18 and 21. Nate was studying at university and Anna missed him quite a bit, she'd frequently rant about how annoyed she was with him for not visiting more often, which for me was quite ideal.
Lisa noticed my unmoved face and smiled at me tenderly, "Oh come on Sylvie, he's not that bad" she chuckled. "Huh? Sorry, my mind was elsewhere, Anna and I have to go soon." I tried steering the conversation away from myself to avoid any awkwardness. "Oh crap you're right! We're going to be late, Sylvie! Dad said he wouldn't drive us this time!" Anna exclaimed, startling me.
We rushed out of the house and made our way to school. I was dreading class today, but at least I left school way earlier than I did at home. Minutes seemed like hours that day, I couldn't wait to just go home and do nothing with Anna. But when the time finally came to do just that I was tortured with constant talk about how spring break would be even better with Nate and how I'd grow fond of him.
"Just give him a chance, Sylvie, he's not as bad as you make him seem" Anna giggled.
Putain, how long was this going to take?
"Come on, you know he does everything to piss me off, he didn't even introduce himself to me!" I hated how everyone seemed to forget how he treated me "I can't even get 3 words out before he starts sneering at me and making fun of my accent!". Anna chuckled lightly while rolling her eyes, "Alright, I get it". We watched tv for a few hours before dozing off in each other's arms.
"Look who's home!" Lisa and her husband, Derek, shouted, startling us awake. Anna and I turned around groggily to see Nate leaning against the wall in all of his glory, surrounded by luggage.
C'est pas vrai...
"Hello" I said quietly, adding a small wave to be polite, just to be ignored. Anna got up and hugged him, kissing him on the cheek while he hugged her tightly. Although I despised Nathaniel it was quite endearing to see the love the two had for each other.
