While blue and green slimes are mostly harmless in nature, not all slimes are so gentle. Red slimes in particular can be frightening monsters due to the parasitic manner in which they obtain magical energy to feed. Similar to the green slime, the red slime targets sexual fluids as its food source, but the unique composition of red slimes requires a higher concentration of energy to be sustained. To accomplish this, red slimes remain hidden from the sight of their prey while waiting until the person they plan to attack goes to sleep. Then, in absolute silence, the red slime enters the body of their host through the mouth and later permeates into the person's blood stream. The preferred host for red slimes are males, though they will also occupy females if desperate.
Once the red slime has fully permeated into the bloodstream and has access to the person's brain, it begins a takeover of the person's body and their movements. Fortunately for the host, they remain unconscious for this episode preventing traumatization for the infested person, but it does mean the red slime does not face any resistance from the host. With control of the person, again typically male, the slime will use the body to forcefully attempt intercourse with the opposite sex of the host.
The goal here for the red slime is to initiate conception between two creatures, enter the female through the male's ejaculation, and feed off of the catalyzed magical energy involved, ultimately preventing pregnancy. In the frightening cases of reported red slime attacks, female adventurers have been sexually assaulted and forcefully inseminated by their male peers under the control of a red slime. In these attacks, control by a red slime was identified from the host's zombie-like movements as well as a film of red slime over their open eyes. After the monster finishes feeding, the red slime will exit the woman's womb and vagina before returning out of sight in a hasty manner.
In the scenario of a red slime attack, the main way to deter the monster and free the person controlled by the slime is to use cold to drive the creature from the host's body. Red slimes despise the cold, so the use of ice, icy water, or frost magic can be used to stop the attack and chase the monster out of the person being controlled. To completely kill the creature, frost magic must be used to freeze the red slime completely. Even upon thawing, the monster will no longer be alive and melt into nothing more than water saturated with magical energy.
Yet, an even more dangerous variant of slimes than the red slime does stalk the darkest of corridors: the black slime. These horrifying creatures are to be avoided at all costs as their method of feeding on magical energy is to completely devour living beings; human or otherwise. Hiding in the darkest areas of caves and dungeons, these monsters cling to ceilings in these underground locales, wait for unsuspecting prey to walk underneath, and descend upon them engulfing their prey completely in a matter of seconds. Before their prey is even fully engulfed, the black slime is already digesting the ill-fated victim with highly acidic slime. Even the toughest of armors are dissolved in seconds when a black slime begins the digestion process, so the advised reaction upon seeing a person being attacked by a black slime is to leave the area immediately. There is no way to survive a black slime attack, and thus there are no records of a person being saved in this situation. By attempting to rescue someone who has already been sprung upon by a black slime, the would-be savior will simply increase the number of people who will be killed by the monster. Like other slimes, they can be lured to an area with sources of magical energy, but they will ignore said sources until they have finished digesting the prey they have ensnared. Furthermore, the use of both weapons and magic have proved to be ineffective in killing these monsters.
While little can be done to prevent the attack of a black slime, precautions can be taken against red slimes when setting up camp. To draw red slimes away from sleeping party members, this bestiary suggests for adventurers to set items infused with magical energy like power crystals and enchanted weapons at the edge of camp to distract red slimes. Red slimes, like any other slime, are instinctual monsters that lack cognitive thought. By placing magically charged items at the edge of camp, the magical energy of these items can essentially blind a red slime to the relatively smaller magical energy of sleeping adventurers further within the camp. There is also no need to worry about the used items being dissolved overnight since red slimes lack the acidic qualities of green and black slimes.
Though there are far more variants of slimes than what is covered in this entry, the four most common have been described in detail. To summarize, blue slimes are harmless, green slimes pose no real threat of bodily harm despite the aggressive manner in which they secure sexual fluid, red slimes are of more danger with their parasitic nature, and black slimes are a death sentence that should be avoided at all costs if possible. For further information on the sub-variants of slimes, separate reference materials can be of use. Adventurers are again advised to carry a light source on all quests to better identify a slime upon discovery. Doing so can be the difference between life and death.
