AN: I know that Valentine's Day has come and gone. But I didn't manage to finish this till now. Enjoy!
Cupid's Shot
"I got dumped before Valentine's Day!" Anta growled through the phone. I sighed internally as I moved my way through the air. Looking for someone to fill out the quota for the end of the day. It had been a productive day but I still had an arrow left.
Meaning that I still had someone to give the gift of love. Although, by today's standards the type of love that I was peddling might be considered not kosher. Because let's face it, I, Cupid God of love, was making mortals fall completely in love with someone not always entirely up to their own free will!
"CUPID! Are you listening to me right now?" Anta asked. She was the Goddess of mutual love, and although it seemed that we should probably hate one another. I love my little sister dearly. Plus she just got dumped by her boyfriend, a nymph.
"Completely listening, you're upset because Eose dumped you before Valentine's Day!" I quickly responded, all the while scanning the ground for a mortal to shoot with an arrow of love.
"That is simply a regurgitation of my words. Ugh! When are you done with work? I thought you had already suckered a few helpless mortals into finding their one
TRUE
love!" She snorted through the phone.
Yep, she did not always approve of my job. But it was my job, and I would be doing it to the best of my abilities. Whether she approved of the forced matches or not, this is where mutual love had gotten her. Complaining to me over the phone, about a nymph that I could shoot in a heartbeat and point him towards Anta, and they'd be happy as a bug in a rug.
"Dear sister, I simply provide people with instant results," I laughed. But then I paused looking downwards. Catching sight of a woman that was standing outside just outside of a parking garage looking down at her phone. She was gorgeous, her long black hair shone in the sunlight like onyx. Looking around, I flew in a little closer to her, of course, unnoticed to her as I was invisible.
"Can you believe that?!" Anta said.
"Mm," I hummed in response. More focused on the woman that was shaking in...anger. She was looking down at her phone, her lovely face contorted in rage. Oh she would be a perfect target, I would give her a spontaneous new love.
But-
glancing around the empty early morning parking garage I wondered just who exactly this woman was going to see.
Well you know not my problem, I had a heart broken sister to attend to. I just needed to get this over and done with. Holding the phone between my ear and shoulder. I grabbed my bow, and notched an arrow in it. Easily lining it up with the woman that I was facing.
She let out another growl, before she pocketed the phone in the back of her blue scrubs. At the same moment, I let the arrow fly, it struck her in the chest. Her body recoiled a little bit at the hit, but then the golden arrow melted away into her chest.
'Success!'
"DAMMIT CUPID LISTEN TO ME!" My sister's voice hammered through the line. I jumped involuntarily, my head smacked the top of the parking garage.
'Fuck!'
The phone slipped out of my grasp, my head was throbbing as I plummeted towards the floor. At the same time this happened, I let my invisibility slip, all while landing right in front of the woman that I had shot with my last arrow!
We made eye contact as I fell and I knew that I had royally fucked this one up!
Ten Minutes Earlier...
"Alexandra you heading out?" Kate asked.
"Yeah, I've got to get ready for Valentine's Day," I said. Collecting my bag, I slung it over my shoulder. Giving her a wave as I left the locker room.
"Don't have too much fun!" She called. I shook my head, as I pulled my phone out of my pocket. My eyes lit up when I saw that my cute little kitten had messaged me. Sliding the phone screen up, I click on his name reading over the message.
Humming to myself and I press the elevator button to the parking garage. But it was then that I saw the message. Did this bastard think I was going to stand for this? Stepping into the open elevator, I press the button at the same time I type out a message.
By the end of the ride, I had hit send, feeling the raging annoyance building. The door dinged as I stepped forward. At the same time I got a call from my kitten. Although, he wasn't going to be my kitten for much longer.
My phone vibrated in my hand.
"What exactly do you have to say to me?"
"Listen Alexandra, I've given it a lot of thought-"
"You've given it a lot of thought? Seriously, who do you think you are breaking it off with over text, not to mention the fact that it's Valentine's day!" I snapped.
"When was I supposed to do it?! When would have been the best time to let you know?!"
"I don't know. Maybe yesterday, I had a whole plan for the evening," I growled through the phone.
There was a pause then a sigh. "I'm sorry, I really didn't think that you would be this upset. The indomitable Mistress, I didn't think you'd have a soft spot like this."
I nearly crushed the phone! Did that little bastard actually think that he was that important right now?
"If it's that much of a problem, I'll stop b-" I hit the end call button without missing a beat. If the Kitten was going to act that way then I was going to find someone else.
After five minutes of messaging, I came up with a resounding no, not a single person was available to spend the evening with me. What in the world?! It seemed like everyone had a date for Valentine's day, but me now it seemed!
"Oh well, I'l-"
