I don't normally put forewords before my stories but this short series is different. As a departure from my normal writing, it's more of an experiment. Hope you enjoy.

Dave walked about the renaissance faire on his own. It was the first day of the faire, and despite being hot, there were plenty of people milling around checking things out. He had opted to wear a simple outfit for the heat instead of the armor he had spent a few months working on. It was just too hot.
Despite the heat, Dave was thankful for it. Women wandered the faire in short dresses and skimpy outfits, their costumes revealing much to the world. The level of cleavage on display was breathtaking.
There were tents selling all sorts of fun items and tables filled with local crafts, and he enjoyed moving from booth to booth to look at the offerings. Dave always liked to look around first before making any purchases, and this year's vendors had a great selection.
Noticing a petite woman, Dave couldn't take his eyes off her. She wore a well-made and revealing costume that suited her lithe form. A small pair of horns on her head and a tail attached to her back marked her as a devil or sexy witch of some kind. The woman looked shy as her friends repeatedly assured her she looked amazing. Dave would have readily agreed.
Black stockings rose along her thin but shapely legs, disappearing beneath a tight but flowing dress that was shorter in the front. A deep cut in the front revealed almost no cleavage, but the skin on display was beautifully pink. Short brown hair framed her face well as she looked around awkwardly.
From the snippets he heard, her friends, who were wearing equally revealing outfits, had pressured her into dressing up for the faire.
Not letting his gaze linger, Dave wandered off to find something to eat as the roar of a nearby crowd cheered on a jousting show.
Sitting at a table watching people go about their business, the woman he had noticed earlier sat at the same table as him. All the other tables were full, and Dave was alone. Her cheeks were flushed, she looked a little mad. Looking around curiously, he couldn't see the friends she had been with earlier.
"Hey, everything alright?" Dave asked cautiously.
There was a pause as she turned to look at him. Her anger softened and became more like sadness. "Yes..." she paused again. "No...My friends ditched me."
"I'm sorry. That seems like an unfriendly thing to do." He wasn't sure what to say.
"I'll be ok, thanks. Just have to wait for an actual friend to come pick me up. They drove off and left me here." She looked angry again.
"Ouch, that really sucks to hear. Can I buy you a turkey leg or a beer?" Dave offered. His soul hurt a little bit, having been ditched by friends before.
The woman looked at him for a moment before her expression softened. "Sure, I'm stuck here for another hour or so at least. Something to eat might help."
"I'm Dave." He stood and extended his hand.
Smiling slightly at the gesture, she stood as well. "Ava."
Finding some food and drink was easy. Returning to the table, the pair began to talk for a while and realized they had quite a bit in common. Time passed easily in each other's company.
Ava's phone buzzed, and looking at it, she frowned. "The friend coming to pick me up won't be here for another hour. Stuck in traffic."
"Have you looked around the Faire much?" He asked curiously.
Ava shook her head. "No, after forcing me into this outfit we walked around for a few minutes before they decided it was too hot and took off."
"Would you like to walk around with me?" Dave asked hopefully.
She looked him over hesitantly. "Alright. Why not?"
