Gavin had hit me again, had forced me again, and it was the last time this time. I was driving as far away as possible this time. I slammed the door of my little Versa and sped away going as far as the money on my debit card would take me.
The wind whipped through my short black hair as my green eyes studied the sign that said 'Cedar Pack territory'. I was in werewolf country, I didn't know how I had ended up here but I was just passing through. I drove on following GPS to the closest restaurant, a little diner called Cedar Lodge.
I pulled in and hopped out of my car, happy to see a local sheriff parked at the diner. I stepped in and tugged nervously at the Alice in wonderland tank top I wore as I found a corner booth and settled in.
I tried to ignore the glances I was getting till the waitress came over and said, "I think ya may be a little lost honey." I made a helpless noise. "I don't understand, I'm just passing through." I stammered suddenly conscious of the bruises on my arms and the still healing black eye I was sporting. A tall man with bright red hair and a square jaw full of stubble, wearing a sheriff's uniform with a badge that said Cedar on it came over.
"Hey now AmiLee, we need to be kind to strangers." he said, his gruff voice a difference to his smooth words. "You in any trouble, sugar?" he asked, looking at my bruises. "Just trying to get away from a bad relationship." I said and his green eyes narrowed at me. "This guy have a habit of chasing you down?" He asked and I nodded reluctantly.
The officer made a thoughtful noise then pulled a badge on a chain from his pocket and put it on the table. "If you want, you can stay here in Cedar Point, with the Cedar pack. I'm the Alpha, Cade Cedar." He told me and my jaw dropped as I took in the people around me and the animal eyes they all had. "I'm so sorry, I didn't mean to wander into your territory Alpha Cedar!" I yelped and went to get up but he held out a hand stopping me.
"AmiLee, get her some coffee and bring my breakfast over here. I'm gonna talk with our guest." He called and the waitress hopped to work immediately. "I don't want to impose..." I said and he laughed. "Ain't no imposition if you're in trouble, sugar. I have a spare room you can stay in." He said as AmiLee dropped off his breakfast And a cup of coffee for me and then asked what I wanted.
"Pancakes please." I said bowing my head to her. I took the little badge and studied it, "It's just for your protection, it shows the alpha is personally looking out for you." He said and I slipped it on. I didn't have much money left so I would need a job, "Is there gonna be anywhere I can work?" I asked and he laughed. "I'm sure we can figure something out. Tell me about yourself please, we're gonna be roommates. I should at least know your name." Cade said I blushed and whispered. "Alice."
Cade
She was the most delicate and exquisite creature I had ever laid eyes on. I wanted to both hunt and breed her all at the same time, to smell fear and arousal on her skin as I licked her sweat off her back while I mounted her.
I shook my head knocking the fantasy and her scent free of my head, she had blown in like a leaf on the autumn wind and now she sat shaking in the corner booth. Then AmiLee had approached so aggressively, now we sat across from each other sharing an easy conversation about how she was hoping to become a tattoo artist and did I want to see her portfolio.
I leaned across the table and took in the amazing art of realistic wolves, animal skulls and flowers. As we ate and I took my time sipping my coffee and enjoying her company, my deputy and partner Tyson came in and said, "Fuck there you are Sheriff we have a report of a human in.... Oh." he trailed off as he saw Alice sitting with me, her smile fading as she looked between us.
"It's sort of a big deal I'm here huh?" She asked and I shook my head, "Naw, folks just don't know how to react to different." I patted her hand and squeezed it on top of the table, "We'll take good care of you. Now let's go to the station and get you registered as a temporary citizen and then I'll show you to my house." I said and hopped up.
Tyson stared at me in disbelief. "Just leave her to me." I growled at him quietly and he swallowed hard before nodding and standing aside, even holding the door for Alice and I to exit. "Just follow me down to the station." I called and she nodded as she hopped into a bright pink Versa and turned the engine on. I smiled before I jumped into my sheriff truck and headed to the station with her right behind me.
Alice seemed nervous as she walked up to my truck in front of the station. "Sheriff, to be honest Gavin does have a restraining order on me. I threw a lamp at him." She said as I wrapped my arm around her shoulder in a somewhat possessive way.
She shrank instantly and I backed off, I knew how DV victims could be with overwhelming males. "Sorry, Alice didn't mean to scare you." I said and she smiled sadly, "I just haven't been around a lot of trustworthy men." She said and glanced away. I held out my hand and let out a breath when she took it and let me gently lead her into the station and past the watching eyes to my office.
I guided her into a comfy chair and noticed how she folded her legs under her and made herself small. I sat on the other side of the desk and started printing out the paperwork. "This is just basic stuff to set you up as a temporary resident here in pack territory." I said and she nodded looking around my office.
I had photos of fishing and hunting trips with my friends, some trophies from hunting and a few from basketball back in the day. "No wife or kids at home?" She asked looking at my desk curiously, probably noting that it was bare of personal items. "Never found a mate that I really meshed with." I said 'Or that looked or smelled like you.' I added in my head as I stared at her while she was distracted by the printer winding down.
I stood and grabbed the papers, picking up a clipboard and a pen and handing the bundle over to her. I sat back on the other side of my desk and started on some paperwork of my own while she scribbled on the paper. When she got to emergency contact I saw her hesitate then turned the page, "Just put Sheriff Cedar on that part then sugar." I said and she blushed but wrote in my name regardless.
Eventually she finished the paperwork and I smiled as I took it and faxed it to Judy, our front desk receptionist, to file and get into the computer. "All done, now that was relatively painless. Let me show you to my place and get you settled then we can cruise around town." I said and smiled gently at her, she laughed and it sounded like music.
I guided her out of the station once again, gently holding her hand. She let out a breath of relief when we exited and I asked, "Did anyone make you feel uncomfortable?" she quickly shook her head and explained, "I've been in a few police stations and it hasn't always gone well."
I frowned but nodded. I walked her back to her car before I let her go, her skin soft and supple against my calloused hands. I got into my truck and led her to my house my mind lost in the feel of her skin and how torture out more touches from her.
