Chapter 2.

She slowly woke up, leaning up out of her bed. A soft hiss came from her, a long tongue extending out. She looked down at it, still weirded out by it. It felt weird to have a tongue that functioned more as a 2nd mouth, and a several foot long tail that was strong enough to lift her off the ground with ease.

Eating was much more of a chore now, Emma now restrained to just the small inner mouth for eating. She had realized it was easier to just inhale small bits of food, trying to chew usually leaving a sloppy mess in her mouth.

Drinking liquids was actually easier to do now though, her inner mouth functioning as a straw pretty much, Emma just sticking the entire thing into a cup and sucking up whatever she wanted.

She had been very glad to find she still had a sense of taste, in fact, the inner mouth actually seemed to be much more receptive of tastes than her previous body had, Emma able to taste things from her food that she had never noticed before.

She groggily climbed out of the bed, grabbing a food can out of a cabinet, then making her way over to the couch. She sat down, glancing down at her tail, seeing it trailing back from where she'd just been.

She used her claws to open the can, stabbing the top of it then ripping the lid off. She still wished she was human, but given that was likely to never be a possibility she was trying to get more familiar with her new form.

She was able to use her tail with the same finesse as her fingers now, and she was slowly figuring out just how much strength to put into stuff. She'd been pleasantly surprised to find she was now insanely stronger, the alien creatures seeming to possess a massive amount of strength.

Previously heavy things now felt light, and smaller and lighter things now felt like she was lifting up a feather.

She looked into the can, seeing that it was peaches. She uttered a delighted screech, and then she grabbed a fork, sticking one of the fruits with it. She brought it up to her face, opening her mouth and extending her inner one out, the teeth biting down on half of it.

She had also been overjoyed to discover that she could still eat a lot of the stuff she had enjoyed before, her body seeming to not care what she ate.

She took another bite, finishing off the fruit, and then she brought the can up to her face, sticking her inner mouth in and drawing out some of the juices inside it. She took a breath as she pulled away, and then she looked down at the tablet on a small table in front of her.

She reached for it, grabbing it and turning it on, going to the notes for the sections. She immediately went over to the zone that the other engineer was in.

She stared at it for a second, then let out a surprised screech. She dropped the food can and ran to her door, quickly opening it and running out, her footsteps echoing as she ran away.

On the tablet was a small message the engineer had left, telling her his room number. Also on it was a small message saying, 'Leaving to get to control board, you can wait at room. Left tablet in room.'

It had been sent 15 minutes ago.

He walked down the hall, several tools dangling off his belt as he moved. He'd had to dodge a few bandit groups, reduced to crawling through vents to get past them. He'd also had to crawl through the vents to get past blocked off areas, or areas too dangerous to risk traversing.

Quite a few areas had evidence of fighting, bullet marks lining the walls, some melted walls and flooring, and even the evidence of what must have been explosions, metal debris blocking entire pathways from explosives that had been set off, or fuel lines that had been hit.

He'd fixed a few things as he'd went, but much of it was far too gone to repair. Some places he'd had to resort to simply cutting the power so he could pass, entire floors electrified by loose wires, made even more deadly by leaking water lines.

His eyes went wide as he heard thumping in the distance again, far louder than he'd heard last night.

He looked around in a panic, realizing there were countless lockers lining the hall. He grabbed the handle of one, but it was locked. He looked in the direction of the thumping, the noise growing much louder. He grabbed the one next to it, his heart jumping in relief when he found it was open.

He jumped into the locker, closing the door, pushing his head against the back of the locker as he listened. The thumping stopped, and then a second later he heard something fall from the vents nearby.

He heard it land with a heavy thud, an annoyed hiss following. He heard it start walking around, the man breathing quietly as he heard it walk closer to him. It was walking slowly, the engineer watching as it walked by.

It was looking all over the place, and he watched as it turned, looking at a door across from him. It walked up to it, glancing down at the keypad.

He had to resist the urge to suck in a gasp as he watched its hand move over the keypad, and then it pushed in a few buttons. His eyes widened in surprise and shock as the door opened a second later, the alien walking into the room, looking around.

He could see it occasionally appear and disappear as it walked around the room, but eventually it walked back out. How the hell did it know how to open doors? And how the hell did it know the code to open rooms? How smart were these damn things?

A sense of dread came over him as he realized he had no chance of surviving a long time if one of these things was hunting him, which this one seemed to be. It glanced down both ends of the hallway, and then it started walking further down.

He heard another door open a little ways away. It didn't seem to look into it long though, because he heard another door further down also open. His heart pounded with every door that opened, the man silently praying that there was no one who was hiding in them.

Gradually the noises disappeared, and eventually he heard it climb back into a vent, the creature moving quickly in the vent, making a lot of noise as it ran away.

He sat there for several seconds, breathing heavily, before he slowly opened the door, grimacing as it creaked. He stepped out, looking around and seeing that every door down the hallway had been opened.

That was the way he needed to go, but he couldn't go that way with the alien hunting him down, he would have to find an alternate route.

He went back the other way, walking down a different hallway, making his way along, listening for any sound of the alien coming close. As he walked he eventually happened across a map of the area.

He could see where he was, and he could see where he needed to go. He was glad to see the hallway the alien had went down wasn't the only way to the control boards. There was another path he could take, although it would add a little bit of time.

It took him another 20 minutes to make his way there, but thankfully there were no survivors along the way, or any aliens wandering the vents and hallways.

He turned to a hallway, seeing the entrance to the control room close to him. His eyes widened in delight, and he started making his way toward it. In there he could see several androids walking around.

He pulled an ID card out of a pocket, knowing he would need to show it to them. As he walked closer one of the androids noticed him, turning to meet up with him. "Hello, I'm-"

"You're not supposed to be here."

The engineer looked at it in confusion. "But... I'm an engineer... I've got access to be here, see." He outstretched his arm, offering the ID card to the android.

It looked down at it, then reached its hand out.

The engineer groaned as the android's hand grabbed his wrist, clenching down on it violently.

"You shouldn't be here, let me help you."

The engineer tried to pull away, but the android's grip was too tight.

A short ways away was the alien, stalking down the hall. It was not the one from last night though. This one was Emma.

She knew he had to be around here somewhere. She could've swore she heard him walking around earlier, but she didn't see him anywhere, even after checking every room. She had run over here as fast as she could, her speed surprising her, her body capable of running at insane speeds. She'd terrified more than a few humans as she'd sprinted by them. She'd also discovered that getting shot stung a bit, but her acid blood quickly removed the bullet, along with sealing up the wound.

She stood in the center of the hallway, not sure where to go. Perhaps he had decided to go back to his room, maybe he hadn't been able to get over here after all.

Cracks rang out through the hallways. Cracks of a revolver. She heard 4 gunshots go off in the distance, near where the control room was. She screeched, running over there as fast as she could.

Her heavy footsteps echoed through the hallways, and as she turned she saw a horrifying sight. On the ground was a android, white blood pooling on the ground where it had been shot. Near it was the engineer, and he was crawling away from another android.

He raised his revolver up at it, firing two more times, and then the weapon clicked empty. The android raised its hand, punching the engineer's hand, launching the revolver out of it. She heard him yell, and then it leaned down, the man raising an arm up to block the blow that was aimed at his face.

The force was still strong enough to knock his arm back to his face, and she roared as she watched his head bang against the floor, blood flowing out of his nose. She started running forward, making a drawn out roar as she rapidly covered the distance.

The android brought a fist down on his stomach this time, the man coughing as the wind got knocked out of him. It stepped on his stomach, the android putting its immense weight down on him, and he put his hands on its leg, desperately trying to push it off, trying to stop it from crushing him.

So, this was how he was going to die, getting crushed by an android, then torn to shreds by an alien.

The alien's screech echoed through the hall as she threw herself at the android, tackling it. She briefly grabbed its neck, but then she remembered what she was and she resorted to using her claws, tearing the android's face apart.

Something brushed past her, and she watched as another android walked towards the engineer, who was trying to kick himself away. Another android shoved past her, completely ignoring her, solely focused on attacking the engineer.

She stood up, stabbing the first one through the back, white blood splattering the engineer's clothing, the man, turning his head to the side as some of it landed on his face. She went to pull her tail out, but then the android grabbed it with its hands, holding on to it.

She screeched as the other android walked to the engineer, kicking him in the chest, sending him back a few feet, the man coughing and clutching his chest. It then stood over him, leaning down, and it grabbed him by the throat.

She stood up, running to the android on top of the engineer, grabbing it by the shoulders and heaving it back. It took the engineer with it though, its grip tightening on his throat, Emma watching his struggling go more violent.

The other android hit the engineer in the face, and the alien wrenched her tail, throwing the android away from him. The android holding the engineer stood back up, lifting the man up, his grip starting to go weak, the man unable to breath.

It pulled him back, and then the android slammed him into the wall, and his arms went limp. The alien's heart jumped in her chest, and she swiped her tail at the android, slicing its arms off.

The android looked down at the arms for a second, staring at the man that fell with them. "Tut, tut." It was completely unfazed by the fact that it no longer had arms, and she threw herself on top of the human as it pulled its leg back, preparing to kick him.

She braced herself, expecting to feel a foot drilling into her side, but it didn't happen. She looked up at the android, and watched it tilt its head, repositioning itself, trying to get an angle on the man.

She hissed at the android, and she brought her tail up again, this time taking out the android's legs. It fell to the ground, the android's torso wiggling around as it tried to move.

She turned her attention back to the human, grabbing him by the shoulders, screeching desperately at him, trying to wake him up. She shoved her head in close to him, and was relieved to know he was at least still breathing.

"You're not supposed to be here."

She looked up, seeing more androids were approaching. For whatever reason they refused to attack her, instead focusing solely on the engineer. She was sure she could fight them all off herself, but she doubted she could stop all of them from getting a hit in on the man. She had to get him out of here.

She scooped him up, the man dangling limply in her arms, and she turned around, running as fast as she could, hearing the android's voices and footsteps quickly disappear.

She breathed heavily as she ran, her heart pounding as she ran through the halls, desperately hoping he hadn't been seriously hurt by the androids.

It had taken the man just over half an hour to get to the control room, but it took the alien only a few minutes to get him back home, mostly because she didn't care about making noise, she just wanted to get him to a safe place.

She soon made it to his room, and as she stood at the door she realized she couldn't put the code in if she was holding him. She didn't want to set him down either.

She awkwardly tried to press the buttons with her fingers while still trying to hold him, but she stopped when she almost dropped him. She stood back, thinking for a second, and then she felt her tail swishing behind her.

She raised it up in front of her, looking at the pointed tip, seeing it was covered in white blood. She lifted it up to the keypad, finding that the blade was thin enough to not press multiple buttons. She carefully put the code in, and then she stepped inside as the door opened.

She looked around, taking in the room, looking at the numerous bunches of clutter there were, mostly boxes and random pieces of machinery and equipment. A hint of jealousy came over her as she looked at it, wishing she had half as much stuff as he did.

Most rooms on the station were built the same, so she walked to where she thought the bedroom would be, and sure enough, there it was. She walked to it, climbing into hit, carefully setting the man down next to her.

The bed was placed in a corner of the room, and she had placed him against the corner, not wanting him to fall off the edge. She was lying in front of him, and as she stared at him she saw the horrible state he was in.

His face was covered in blood, his nose looked like it might be broken. His eye was black, and his lips looked to be split too. She pulled her lips back, her alien version of a grimace, and she slowly got out of the bed.

She made her way to where she'd seen a fridge, and much to her relief when she opened the attached freezer she saw numerous icepacks in it. She pulled some out and made her way back to the man.

She tended to him for awhile, trying to clean off his face, putting a soft icepack on his eye, loosely tying it around him to make sure it stayed in place. She'd unbuttoned his shirt too, taking in the state of his chest.

She noted how he looked fit, and she lightly drew a hand across his chest, but pulled away when she remembered how beaten he'd been. He was asleep right now, but she could only imagine the pain he'd be in when he woke up. She placed some more icepacks on his chest, making sure to cover all the spots that looked bruised or had marks on them.

She got back up, heading to the bathroom. As she walked in she took stock of it. It was decently clean, and when she looked at the tub she could see a tiny bit of water around the drain. Wait...

She walked over to it, hesitantly reaching to the handle just above the spout. She hung there for a second, and then she turned the handle. A happy growl came from her as she watched water spill out of it, and she turned the handle until hot water was pouring out, starting to pool in the tub.

She was in an awful state, completely covered in android blood, and she wanted to get all of it off, not wanting to completely ruin the man's room. This wasn't what she'd come in here for though. There was a medical cabinet in here, and as she opened it she spotted several pain pills in there.

She grabbed them, also making a cup of water, and she walked back to where the engineer was. He was still unconscious. She briefly considered trying to feed him some pills, but quickly shot down that idea. He would most likely choke if she tried to do that.

So she set them on a table sitting next to the bed. She leaned down to him, reaching a hand out to him, but hesitated when she saw it was covered in android blood. She pulled back, deciding to wash off before she would hold him.

She walked back towards the bathroom, finding that the water had filled in enough. She turned the water off, then stuck a finger in the water. It felt like it was a comfortable temperature. God, it had been ages since she'd been able to take a bath.

She hadn't had as much luck with repairing systems as he'd clearly had. She'd been able to keep the air filters and pumps going, but everything else was hopelessly destroyed, looted by scavengers who didn't stop to think about just what they were destroying.

She raised a leg over the rim of the tub, stepping in to it, then she stood there awkwardly. She was so big now she would barely fit into the tub. She made an irritated sigh, and then she slunk down, reclining into the tub.

She was so tall that only her lower half and stomach were in the water, the rest of her was resting above it, even with the water almost reaching up to the rim.

In the other room, the man was starting to stir, blissful unconsciousness turning to a dull pain, and then turning sharper, the man wanting to double over. He groaned, reaching his hand up to his chest, feeling something cold on it.

He opened his eye, noticing he could not open the other one. His other eye was hurting, the area surrounding it also very sore and painful. He could see something covering it, and when he reached up he felt a cold pack taped to his head.

He reclined back in the bed, not wanting to move, just trying to think on what had happened. He'd almost been beat to death by the androids. An alien had come by though, completely massacring the androids, even pulling some of the androids off of him.

An android had knocked him unconscious so he did not know what happened after that. Had it thought he was dead and ran off? Perhaps Emma found him surrounded by dead androids and she brought him back here. It would explain why he was lying in his bed with cold packs on him.

He owed her a big one if she had done that.

He turned his head, looking at the small table next to the bed, the light of a lamp sitting on it uncomfortable. He reached to turn it off, but then he noticed a cup sitting on the table, a bottle of pills next to it.

A wave of relief washed through him and he quickly grabbed the bottle, taking a pill out of it. He recognized this bottle, it was one he'd looted from a medical office. These particular pills were some of the strongest pain pills a person could get, and very expensive to buy.

He took the cup off the table, seeing it was filled with water, and he quickly downed the pill, hoping it would kick in fast.

He leaned back into the bed. "Em-" His call turned into a coughing fit, his throat still very painful from almost getting crushed by an android's fingers.

His coughing just made him hurt more, and he tried to hold them in, balling his fists as he tried to ride out the pain. Gradually it went away, and he tried speaking again. "Em... Emma?" He could barely utter it out, the man hearing nothing more than a whisper.
