Getting Well Ch 2

I had never imagined in my wildest dreams, that my Aunt Beth, would have done what she did! The suddenness of her action shocked me into state of confusion and a bit of uneasiness. So many thoughts raced through my mind, as she finished my sponge bath and covered me with a fresh sheet. I did not know what to say, yet I felt the need to say something. I started to speak in a low voice, but it came out as a stutter, only to have my Aunt reach over and place her fingers across my lips.

"Shuss" my aunt whispered, "Don't say anything."

The look in my eyes must have spoke volumes, as we looked into each others eyes.

The rest of the day went by in slow motion, as I dwelled on the turn of events and what the future seemed to promise. I drifted in and out of sleep, still a bit weak from my injuries.

I was awakened by the voices of my mom and my aunt, as they came into my bedroom with my evening meal. Their plan was to turn me sideways on my bed, and let my head hang off the side, over the basin. My mom pulled the sheet off of me as she has done so often before, and the two of them gently shifted me to the desired position. The two women carried on with their task, with great care, supporting my head as they shampooed my hair.
