Asa and his younger sister Fawn were both sitting cross legged in front of the small TV at the front of the living room of his college apartment. Both were grasping video game controllers in their hands and frantically pressing the buttons as they battled each other in some fantastical, impossibly magical setting with overpowered avatars and large weapons. Empty beer bottles and a mostly empty pizza box were scattered across a small table behind them. There was an old couch against the far wall but this gaming session was far too serious for such relaxation.
Asa was old enough to drink but Fawn could only sneak forbidden sips of his beer since she was nearly two years younger. This was her first year of college and she spent nearly all her free time here with her older brother instead of seeking out friends and companions among her classmates. Asa couldn't object since he was equally as introverted in that way. They were good enough friends with each other and held similar tastes in entertainment: video games mostly, and other nerdy pursuits. It wasn't that they were deficient in good qualities though. Asa was a tall, skinny thing while Fawn was more of a pipsqueak, but both of them were fiercely humorous and quick to speak their minds in tense situations.
"Don't you fucking dare!" Fawn croaked as she angled her body along with the movements of her avatar on the screen, quite unconsciously. "Not today, buster!"
Asa only smirked as he expertly timed his attacks and defensive movements in response to hers, easily displaying his mastery of this game and countering her every move. She groaned as he avoided her ultimate attack and inflicted his own for the winning blow.
"You jerk!" Fawn cried as she dropped the controller and punched him in the arm. "I was so close to beating you."
Asa laughed as he stretched his arms over his head. "It'll never happen."
Outside the apartment, a rainstorm was brewing and thunder could be barely heard. On rainy nights like this, their favorite thing was to settle in front of the TV and watch a movie with the lights out. Now that Fawn had lost the pretend battle quite utterly, this seemed as good a time as any.
"Hang on, I gotta pee," she said as she hopped up from the floor. "Find a good sci-fi or something."
Asa dropped his controller and replaced it with the TV remote. He plopped himself on the couch and flipped through the channels until he found some old alien flick that they had seen a hundred times before. By the time Fawn had returned, she was wearing a pajama onesie that was supposed to resemble a shark. It was her favorite "relax" outfit even though it was starting to get worn out after years of use. Since she hadn't grown much since first getting it, however, she could easily fit into it still.
The beer was starting to get to them both, Fawn first, and she was nodding off on the couch next to Asa just as his eyes started to feel heavy. It was Friday night and they could sleep in the next day, although technically Asa had some homework that was due Monday that he had yet to start. He had a tendency to let the weekends get away from him.
"Asa?" Fawn's tired voice piped up. "I feel...funny."
Asa glanced over at her and at first he didn't notice anything strange, however after a few seconds there did seem to be something different about her. A glow of sorts, or some kind of shiny quality to her skin that he knew wasn't normal. He felt an electricity in the air that was growing steadily, causing a tingling feeling in his own skin. He glanced down at his hands and saw the same shininess.
"What the...?"
Fawn was still mostly out of it, as the electricity that was building in the air was also draining her of all remaining energy. The TV had started to flicker and was now showing static. Asa flexed his fingers to fight the strange sensation of his blood curdling beneath his skin. It wasn't painful, but something was terribly wrong at this moment. When he glanced back at his sister, he saw that her shiny skin was becoming somewhat translucent now, like she was fading away entirely.
"Am I dreaming?" he asked aloud.
The TV had started making a loud noise but it quickly faded into nothing as he lost all sensation of his surroundings. He couldn't feel the couch beneath him and he couldn't seem to breathe, though it didn't make him panic like he would have imagined. Instead he felt as if his very life was slipping away, melting into nothing.
"Asa?" Fawn's voice was so distant he could barely hear it.
Asa's vision went dark now, though strangely the sound of thunder outside was clear and loud suddenly, and a bright flash of light filled his vision and overwhelmed him with sensation. Had they just been struck by lightning? For a flash of time he felt like his mind was on fire, but then it passed quickly and he was clouded in darkness and silence.
For a long moment that stretched into minutes, Asa was paralyzed by the nothingness. He was aware, barely, but it wasn't complete lucidity. It was like a dream that he knew he was having but he couldn't control or influence in any way. The darkness slowly lifted and he felt his heavy eyelids fighting to open, held back by a fatigue that made him feel like he was using his body for the very first time. He tried to move but his muscles weren't responding. He worried for Fawn, wondering if she was still next to him on the couch, except when his eyes finally opened he was sure that he was still dreaming.
Instead of his meager apartment, Asa felt the cool breeze of a sunny morning waft across his face. The brisk feeling helped him stir awake, though the fatigue was still wearing down on him. He inhaled deeply, again feeling like his lungs were only now being used for the first time ever, and the smell of the crisp air was refreshing. He was definitely outdoors now, but how had that happened? Had someone rescued him from inside his apartment? Maybe there had been a gas leak and someone had carried him out.
With a sudden anxiety, Asa turned his head to the side, where Fawn had been falling asleep beside him on the couch. She was next to him still, but they were definitely outside on the bare ground. This wasn't the apartment, and it wasn't even anywhere close to it. All around him were trees and grass and a well-worn dirt path that he was seemingly laying on with his sister. He sat up now, newly alert and wondering what the hell had just happened. He remembered the static on the TV, the strange shiny sensation on his skin, the thunder outside...
Fawn was stirring now inside of her onesie, or at least he initially thought she was still wearing her pajamas. The soft fabric of the onesie was different somehow upon closer examination, fluffier and even softer than it should have been. He was transfixed by the sight of it actually, watching her gentle breathing and the rise and fall of her body. When she groaned and rolled over, he almost jumped back at how she appeared now: her skin was not the usual smooth pale color but now she seemed covered in luxurious cream fur of some kind, not just part of a piece of clothing but attached to her actual body. Her complete lack of clothing allowed him to see that she was covered in this fur, head to toe, and her face even had remnants of it, just like a cat girl from some cheesy anime. A set of large pointed ears at the top corners of her head matched this description aptly.
"What the fuck?!" he exclaimed.
Fawn's eyes blinked open now and she stretched, as if she had just finished a satisfying slumber, and she frowned at him. "What's happening? Is something wrong?"
It was either Asa's shocked expression or the fact that he too was now some anthropomorphic version of himself, covered in similar fur but a darker shade of grey, that made Fawn's eyes open wide while she mirrored his shocked expression. The two siblings stared at each other for the longest time, noting the characteristics of the other person with more and more surprise.
Asa's body was more of a masculine animalistic version of his sister, his fur more patchy and of a shorter length, and his hands and feet were mostly human-like but with sharp white claws at the ends of his fingers. He was grey all over his body except for his face which was a soft white color, and his ears were long and rounded on the ends, extending nearly straight out from the sides of his head. He was the same basic overall shape as before, tall and thin, but there was a somewhat notable difference that he could not even attempt to hide: his penis was now a thick appendage that dangled freely between his legs, protruding from a modest clump of white fur at his groin. His testicles were smooth and hairless though, oddly enough, but they too seemed larger than before, fuller perhaps.
