Love in the Time of COVID - Part 1 - Out of the City and Into the Hot Tub
Sydney, 2020
There was Sarah was at the school gates, beautiful and blonde in her short green skirt and white blouse. Her mother was in the passenger seat, her older sister in the back.
Colin manoeuvred the large vehicle to the kerb. "Get in," he said, through the open window, "I'm not supposed to stop here."
Sarah jumped in. "What's going on?"
"The Coronavirus has gotten serious," Colin said. "Sydney's going into lock down. No one will be able to leave home after eight tonight. We're going to the beach house before the curfew starts. We'll wait it out there."
"What? For how long?"
"We don't know. It could be weeks. Anyway, we don't want to stay in the city. We've loaded up on supplies and you girls will have to pack quickly when we get home. There's no time to change. Just grab some clothes. Maybe some winter stuff in case we're there for a while."
Sarah put her hands to her face and sobbed. Colin watched Jamie reach back and touch her daughter's leg.
"It's okay baby, please don't be scared," Jamie said. "We're only going away for a few weeks until this whole thing blows over."
Sarah looked over at her sister. "University is shutting down too?"
"Yes," Charlotte said. "Everything's fucked."
"Don't worry, we got an email from your principal," Colin said to Sarah. "They'll arrange remote learning. Take your laptop."

The Princes Highway was strangely quiet for a Friday evening. Colin glanced at the girls in the back seat as they looked out the windows, as they'd done many times on the four-hour journey south. But this time was different. Sarah had been fidgety and he'd seen her suck her hair, a real sign of anxiety, which she was probably sensing from her mother. He looked at Jamie and nodded to the back seat, to let her know her daughters needed reassurance.
"You know we can easily isolate ourselves down there for months," Jamie said. "The beach house is secure. We have plenty of food, and there's a generator and solar panels and batteries and a rainwater tank. We're totally self-sufficient. No one and nothing can bother us there."
"But this feels like the end of the world," Sarah said.
"No baby, please don't think like that," Jamie said. "The most important thing is we stay together and take care of each other. No one else matters right now."
"Your mother's right," Colin added. "We're in this together and we'll be fine. Why don't you girls try to get some sleep. It'll be dark soon. Let me take care of getting us there, okay?"
"And I've made a lasagne," Jamie said. "We can have it with some salad. How does that sound?"
"Sounds good to me," Charlotte said. She nudged her sister. "See Sarah, the world isn't going to end, Mum's made a lasagne."
Sarah smiled for the first time and elbowed her sister back. "Shut up. Colin's right. Let's get some sleep."
The occasional car travelling in the opposite direction filled the interior with enough light for Colin to steal glances at the sleeping girls in the mirror. Jamie was right, he did love seeing the girls in their school uniforms. It had been such a disappointment when Charlotte finished high school and didn't wear one any more. He loved that Jamie valued his admiration of her gorgeous girls, their short skirts and lovely tanned legs, the blonde hair and blue eyes. You'd know they were sisters right away, but there were differences. Charlotte was nineteen now and the taller of the two. She had such a fit body with the most delicious sticky-out booty and full tits. Sarah was a year younger but was probably prettier. And she had nicer legs. While Sarah was self-conscious of her braces and the occasional outbreak of acne, Colin thought that extra vulnerability added to her attractiveness. And really, any heterosexual man or boy would be besotted with either of them. What was it that old guy said to him at the café the other day? "Crikey mate, keep your girls off the street, they'll cause an accident!"
A MILF for a partner and her beautiful blonde girls for step-daughters. Not bad, Colin thought. Not bad at all.

"Okay girls, take your bags to your rooms. I'll put that lasagne in the oven," Jamie said. "Colin honey, can you get me a drink? And get the hot tub ready for later?"
"Two excellent ideas, my dear," Colin said. He kissed Jamie on the cheek and walked out to the deck. He stared at the water.
"When can we get in the tub?" Charlotte asked.
Colin jumped back, surprised by her nearness. She'd changed into tight black yoga pants and a white t-shirt. Goddamn.
"After dinner, I guess. How you feeling? Got any Uni assignments?"
"You're really worried about our homework right now?"
"Oh, maybe not," Colin said. "Anyway, let's get your mother a drink and help her with dinner."
He went to the kitchen, grabbed two glasses and a bottle of New Zealand sauvignon blanc, and poured the wine. He placed a glass next to Jamie. She was busy at the chopping board and Sarah had joined her to slice tomatoes.
"Can I have a glass?" Charlotte asked.
"Okay, but be careful. Don't drink it too quickly."
Charlotte smiled. "As if I would."
"Me too?" Sarah asked.
Colin looked at Sarah's innocent eyes and brace-filled smile. "You'd hate the taste."
"No, I wouldn't."
Colin sighed. "Oh really?" He handed her his glass.
She took a sip. Then another. "See?"
"How many bottles did you bring?" Jamie asked.
"Plenty," Colin said. He grabbed another two glasses.
"I just want you girls to take it easy," Colin said.
He placed the glasses on the bench top. "I know this is a special occasion, but don't expect to booze it up every day."
"Okay with me," Sarah said.
"And me," Charlotte said.
Jamie smiled.
Colin smiled too as he poured generous glasses for the girls. Whatever. Private family time. If it wasn't for everyone's concern over this pandemic he'd be loving this.

The conversation had dried up. All four sat in the hot tub bubbles with their thoughts to themselves.
Jamie giggled.
"What?" Colin said.
Jamie waved a hand. "Oh, it's nothing. I've just had a little too much to drink."
