"Come on Dad. Just because I didn't pass the exam?"
"How many times is this, you bastard? I spent a lot of money to make sure you didn't get expelled from school. You kept fighting instead of studying. You wouldn't even be able to finish school without me let alone the university exam."
"It's the teachers' stupidity. They exaggerated. All this happened without me wanting it. Those bastards started it all. What should I have done, shouldn't I have defended myself?"
"You pray. Their families didn't complain. It was defense. Fuck off. They both ended up in a coma. You will be a man. If you don't want to study you'll work. Suffer a little torture so you can understand the value of what you have."
"Okay, I can work but I can't find a job here. What will I do in my grandmother's village?"
"We talked to your mother. This is what's best for you. Pack your suitcase. I bought your bus ticket. You're leaving in the morning. You won't be back until the summer is over."
It's like they had never been young. They never made a mistake. They judge people so easily. All of this happened to me because of that whore Ceyda. Nothing would have happened if that bitch hadn't wagged her tail at both me and the other fucker. The only thing I regret is not fucking that bitch in the ass. Because of her I'm going to stay in a village on the mountain for three months. Let me come back and show them all.
My name is Berk I am eighteen years old. I am a white-skinned young man with black hair. I graduated from high school this year. I could not pass the university entrance exam. I am one of the three children of my family. I have a twenty-year-old older sister who is studying at university and a twelve-year-old younger sister. Everyone in the family is perfect. I am only the bad apple.
From then on my name has been Banished Berk. Because of a fight I got into before finishing school my family has applied a different punishment than they usually do. They had previously given me room detention or had confiscated my phone but after the last incident they have gotten a little ridiculous.
Whatever happened I would get to see my grandmother and my aunt. I thought the last time I went to the village was when I was around nine years old. Since my grandmother was bedridden my aunt SongΓΌl lived with her. She had settled in the village after divorcing her husband. I had talked to her on the phone from time to time but I hadn't seen her for about five years. On the bright side I was going to have a holiday.
My dad took me to the bus station. I was going to have a ten-hour bus ride. I should have at least gone by plane. Stingy bastard. The money he gave me as if I were a beggar wasn't enough for anything. I put on my headphones as soon as I sat in my seat. Did he think I was going to wave at him from the window or something? Or maybe he wanted to make sure I was gone. Damn. The old uncle sitting next to me was probably a bonus. I hoped he wouldn't fart too much.
I woke up in the middle of the night when the bus stopped. I got up without touching the old guy sleeping next to me with his mouth open. Disgusting guy. He was dead but he just didn't know it.
As the night frost hit my face I was cursing my own stupidity. Actually I was not as vagabond as they thought. When I had smoked my cigarette and returned to my seat the old man was still snoring. I couldn't sleep. Looking out the window I couldn't believe I was so far away from civilization.
I arrived at the bus station in the early morning. The demons were playing ball. There was no one here. I got on the bus going to the village. After driving through the mountains and other villages for an hour I got off at a place that looked like a square. There were old adobe houses and barns around me. My insides were dark. What a fucking place I had come to. I almost stepped in cow shit. Oh dad oh. How I wished your dick hadn't gotten up the night you and my mother produced me.
I saw someone walking towards me from about a hundred meters away. She looked like my aunt. It would have been better if my eyes had bled when I got closer. What was she wearing? Loose flower-patterned pants and a fuchsia sweater or sweatshirt. I couldn't understand it. Didn't this woman have any self-respect? She was five years younger than my mother but even so my mother was like a queen next to her.
"My lion. My brave man has arrived." she said and hugged me. The smell of sweat and soot reached my nose.
"Hello auntie."
"You've grown so much. How handsome you've become." she said.
If she continued to hug me I was going to faint. Fortunately the longing was short-lived.
We started walking towards my grandmother's house together. She kept talking about how excited and happy they were that I had come. It seemed to me that she had gone a little crazy but that was normal in a place like this. We came to the garden gate passing between houses surrounded by stone walls. I remembered the blue iron gate with its rusty paint faded.
On the right side of the garden there was a yellow swing with a rotten rope. A little further on there was a well. An old single-story house with a barn next to it. In the back there was my grandfather's '82 Mercedes covered with a tarpaulin. Everything was the same as when I last came. Of course it was older and had been more neglected.
When I hugged and kissed my grandmother with the smell coming from old people hitting my nose. Did they all smell the same? Well she smelled better than my crazy aunt.
While eating they talked about old memories about my childhood. My grandmother told me to do repairs around the house and to help my aunt in the fields during my stay. The smile on her face warmed my heart. I had missed her so much.
When I entered the room where I would sleep I felt a little shock. An old floor bed. A wooden window with wind coming from underneath. Welcome to the Middle Ages. I asked my aunt if there was internet she laughed and told me that the phone only had reception in the garden under the fig tree. There were only local channels on TV. I had fallen into a zone of deprivation. I placed my belongings and explored the surroundings.
If I didn't find something to do I could go crazy here. My aunt was talking to my mother on the phone under the fig tree. She was letting her know that I had arrived. The garden was very neglected as the grass was up to my knees, stones had fallen and holes had opened in the garden walls. I walked towards the barn and entered through the wooden door. A cow was looking at me. I took a sickle and left. I didn't realize the time had passed while I was mowing the weeds. It was dark. I was tired and went to bed after dinner.
The next morning I woke up to the smell of boiled milk. We all had breakfast together. I went to the field with my aunt and hoed. Since it was my first time she showed me a few times. These things were really hard. It turned out that we were in heaven in the city but my back and feet hurt everywhere. During dinner my aunt was telling my grandmother about my clumsiness. I was disgusted with myself because of the smell of sweat at night so I couldn't sleep. I had to take a shower.
The bathroom and toilet were in the same place. I passed my snoring grandmother's room to get to the bathroom door. She and my aunt slept in the same room, both of them must have already fallen asleep. A single bulb whose voltage dropped from time to time was on day and night. The wooden bathroom door would remain slightly ajar and would not close completely. When I pushed it open with my hand I froze.
My aunt was taking a shower.
