--- Chapter 1 ---
Rob was in his first semester of college when he heard his mother, Lisa, was hospitalized. He rushed to see her at the hospital as soon as he got the call from his Aunt Sharon. As Rob entered the hospital his aunt greeted him in full scrubs and gave him a big hug.
"Oh, honey, your mom is a fighter she is going to be ok!"
Rob was taken aback by his Aunt Sharon's attire, "Aunt Sharon, why are you dressed like that?"
Sharon responded, "Well, the doctors believe that your mother has an autoimmune condition. If you want to see her, you're going to have to put these on." She handed Rob a plastic bag filled with scrubs and a face mask.
"So, what is an autoimmune condition?" Rob asked.
"Well, the best way to describe it is that your mother's immune system has turned against her. In other words, if she gets sick her body won't be able to fight it off. I'm going to be in the next room over with the doctors working on your mom, so I'll be here for her. I know that you are going to be here for her too. She is going to be fine."
Rob walked to the bathroom, changed his clothes, and washed his hands. When he returned his Aunt Sharon was waiting to escort him to his mom's hospital room. Rob and Sharon walked into the room and were greeted by a nurse, "Mrs. Smith, we're all done. She should be awake soon."
"Thank you very much," Aunt Sharon responded.
Rob took a seat next to his mother and held her hand, "Hi Mom."
As his mother awoke Rob felt her hand squeeze his, "Hi honey."
Aunt Sharon and the nurse both exited the room and closed the door behind them.
"Mom, I'm here for you. We're going to make sure that you get better."
Lisa smiled weakly, "Rob, thank you for being here. I know that you need to get back to school. Don't worry about me, I'll figure something out."
"No, I'm not going back until I know that you are going to be alright!"
"Sweetie, I don't want you to miss your classes for me."
"Mom, it's going to be okay."
Just then the doctor entered the room. "Hello, you must be the patient's son. My name is Doctor Jones."
Rob got up and shook the doctor's hand, "Hello Doctor Jones, my name is Rob."
"So, Rob, as you know your mother is suffering from an autoimmune disorder. The good news is that we caught it early enough to develop a treatment plan."
Rob breathed a sigh of relief, "Oh, that's good to hear. What is the treatment plan?"
"Well, the plan is that we give your mother an injection of antibiotics every few days. However, you are going to need to live in full quarantine. Your mother must not get sick during this time. You will need to wear a mask whenever you are around her and bring her food and drink until she makes a recovery. Then we can discuss further treatment when your mother is in a better condition."
"I understand, Doctor. I'll do anything I can to help."
"Thank you, Rob. Here is a list of supplies that you will need to pick up from the local pharmacy. You are going to have to buy some groceries and prepare food for your mother."
"Of course, I'll head to the pharmacy right now. I'll also have to get a few more sets of these scrubs."
"Very good, I will leave you two alone now.
A few hours later Rob picked his mother up from the hospital after she was discharged. He brought her home to their three-bedroom bungalow house in the suburbs. Lisa and Rob lived together alone in the house until Rob went to college. Rob's father had left years ago and gave half of his wealth to Lisa before disappearing. Obviously, this made Lisa have some severe trust issues with men and she never really dated after he left.
After a week of care from Rob, Lisa recovered. Since, Rob and Lisa were the only two people living in the house, and Rob had no signs of illness, he was able to relax some of the safeguards, such as not wearing a mask, and actually speaking with his mom face to face.
"Rob, I wanted to thank you for taking care of me the past few weeks."
"Of course, mom, it's what I had to do to help."
"I know that you didn't really want to miss your classes, but I don't know what I would have done without you."
"Mom, don't worry, I know that this is important. I would do anything for you."
Lisa pulled her son close and gave him a hug. Rob could feel the softness of her body and her breasts pressed against him. Lisa was a curvy woman but still tried to keep in shape when she could. She had a large chest, wide hips, and a big butt. This was something that she was always self-conscious about, but her son couldn't help but notice the way her body moved and swayed. He was 18 years old, after all.
A few days later, Rob had returned to school, and Lisa had a follow-up appointment over the phone.
"Hello Mrs. Smith, how have you been feeling lately?"
"Good, doc. I haven't been getting sick since my son started taking care of me."
"Good, that is probably because you have been quarantined. Unfortunately, you must continue to avoid any and all exposure to disease. So, you are going to need to stay in lockdown in your house."
"Quarantine? For how long!"
"Until we find a cure."
"Doc, this is insane, how am I supposed to quarantine for the rest of my life?"
"Well, there have been a lot of advancements in medical technology. We are fairly close to an injectable cure to your disorder; however, it is still in the trial phase."
"Well, can you get me into this trial?"
"Unfortunately, no. It has already begun, so you will most likely need to quarantine in your house for at least a year."
Lisa was in shock. Her mouth hung open. She didn't know what to say.
"I will be checking in regularly and can arrange for the delivery of medical supplies if you would like."
"Y... yes, please. That would be wonderful."
"We also have an arrangement with a local pharmacy, and they will deliver your meds."
"That would be very helpful."
