The summer was looking very promising for the Frost family. Blake had just graduated high school. Silvia had just graduated university with a degree in psychology. Aaron and Vivian Frost, parents of Blake and Silvia had just purchased their first summer home on Lake Williams, one of the nicest bodies of water in the state.
The evening that Silvia arrived home from college with her Prius stuffed from top to bottom with her things, Mr. And Mrs. Frost cooked a wonderful dinner with grilled lobster, steak and vegetables. They were excited to tell the kids about the new house.
As they were eating a delicious blueberry pie that Mrs Frost had baked, Mr. Frost poured himself a glass of wine and told them.
"Kids, you know that lake we go to every summer and stay at a campground a couple weeks every year?"
Blake and Silvia had always loved it. Blake fished for trout everyday in a row boat and Silvia usually bronzed her body and swam in the lake all day. Back and forth from the beach chair to the water.
"That's the best place, dad!" Blake exclaimed. Silvia seemed enthused by the mention of a good vacation. "Oh, yes. When can we go?" She asked.
Mrs. Frost began to clear the dinner dishes from the table. "We have a big surprise for you, tell them dear," she said. Blake and Silvia looked at Mr. Frost with curiosity.
He smiled wryly. "Well kids," he said. "you're not going to believe it but we bought a waterfront house at Lake Williams."
"No way dad!" Exclaimed Blake. Silvia put her hand over her mouth. Blake thought she was going to cry. "Are you going to tear up because mom and dad bought a summer house?" He teased.
Mrs. Frost scowled at Blake. "For goodness sakes honey, do not make fun of your sister! Women sometimes cry when they are happy. Get used to it."
Mr. Frost poured his wife some wine and topped off his glass. "Ok, no fighting. No making fun. Whatever. I know you guys are best friends." He sat back in his chair in contemplation, watching the cabernet swirl in his glass as he held it to his lips. He looked at Vivian, God he loved that sexy woman. A brilliant thought was descending upon his mind.
"Honey, I have an idea," he said.
It was Sunday night. Mr. And Mrs. Frost had just closed on the house the day before. Both he and Vivian were so excited to get there and relax. Unfortunately they both had a busy work schedule coming up. Mr. Frost addressed Blake and Silvia.
"How would you guys like to spend the week getting the house ready?" Silvia's eyes about popped out. Blake immediately stood up. "No way! Are you kidding?" Mr. Frost knew already that Blake was imagining a week of evening fishing for trout.
"Your mom and I towed the boat up yesterday. If you two are careful you can run it," he said.
Blake looked at Silvia, ecstatic. "Hell yes, right Sil?" She too was excited beyond belief. She thought about sitting by the lake in her bikini, reading, maybe even tanning her breasts, if it was private enough. "Yes, little brother! Let's do it!" Mr. Frost held up his hand and took a long sip from his glass. He looked at Vivian.
"Honey? When does the truck get there?" Mrs. Frost retrieved her phone from her pocket. She had arranged for some movers to bring furniture and kitchenware. She checked the date. "Oh," she said. "It will be there Tuesday at 10 A.M." Mr. Frost nodded and smiled, looking at Silvia.
"Baby, i want you to figure out where everything goes." He turned to Blake sternly but still wearing a smile. "Son..." he paused. "Do what your sister says."
Blake looked at Silvia, smiled broadly, and nodded. He laughed. "Dad, I have no idea where shit goes," he said. Good choice!"
Everyone laughed. They all knew how disorganized Blake was. If he had to set a table right or be killed, he would die. He would store the towels and sheets under the kitchen sink for all he knew or put the silverware in his sock drawer. Sports and fishing. He knew that.
Mr. Frost finished his wine and smiled mischievously at Vivian. She blushed. He grabbed her around the waist and kissed her. Blake looked at Silvia and rolled his eyes. Their parents had never hidden their attraction For each other. His bedroom was closest to theirs. Silvia was the first person in his life to tell him about sex.
He was maybe 8 or 9. He remembered running to Silvia's room one night grabbing her, shaking her, waking her up, whispering loudly. "Silvia Silvia! Something's wrong with mom and dad!" They had stood outside their parent's door and listened briefly. He remembered Silvia snickering quietly and leading him back to her room with her finger over her lips as if to say, "shhh." And their conversation was the only time in his life up until then, someone older had talked with him about sex. They sat up for hours with the lights on.
"Why was mama saying she was going to make dad her bitch? I heard her slap him!" Blake remembered that conversation with Silvia vividly. "She was mad at him Sil. I know she was. She hurt dad. Dad sounded hurt!" He remembered Silvia rolling on her side laughing.
"They're having sex!" She had said "I don't know about making someone else your bitch, but they were having sex."
It was the one and only "birds and bees" conversation he ever had.
Silvia did not unload her Prius but drove it directly to lake Williams the following morning. Blake followed in his old ford truck filled with some furniture and beddings that Vivian wanted him to bring.
The siblings spent the rest of the day unloading their cars. It was hot. Blake changed into his swimsuit and ran into the lake. Silvia was reading on the porch.
