Author's note
Nothing really detailed to report. A big thanks to everyone who has supported me so far and continues to support me. Your emails and feedback are genuinely the highlight of my days, even if I don't get the chance to reply to you just know I do read all of them.
More to come from Six of a kind. I'll be focussing on this story for the most part, with some tentative ideas for Lust at first sight book 3 swirling around in my depraved mind.
Stay awesome.
Chapter 6
Maya looked at me with a stunned expression that I assumed was mirrored on my own face. There was only one reason Maya would be here, and now that she was standing beside the new girl, Zoe, I immediately understood why I recognized her. It was plain as day the two were sisters.
The two girls were of similar height—Maya being shorter by an inch or two—with eerily similar facial features and the same green eyes.
"You two know each other?" Chloe asked with a hint of intrigue in her voice.
"We met downstairs in the bar," I said, thinking quickly. "Neither of us seemed to fit in so I introduced myself."
"Well, that was lucky," Chloe replied, hinting at the complications a random encounter could hold.
Unfortunately, that encounter had already happened.
"So, you're number five then," Samantha said, addressing Maya.
"Five?" Maya asked, clearly overwhelmed and confused.
"We are all siblings," Chloe said matter-of-factly. "And I'm guessing that we still have one more yet to arrive."
"That's fucking crazy," Zoe shook her head in disbelief. "There has to be some kind of mistake."
"Not a mistake at all," Samantha added. "We five, and our absent sibling, all share the same mother and father."
"Sextuplets," Maya said softly, almost as if speaking to herself.
No one seemed to hear her, but I for one couldn't take my eyes off her. I was so thrilled at the chance to see her again, but in this moment, I was conflicted as to how to feel. There had to be some kind of mistake that she was in the wrong room. But one look at the girls around me told me I was in denial. Maya and Zoe were close enough to be sisters without question, but I could still pick out similarities between the others.
Samantha's nose was an exact copy of both Maya and Zoe, while Maya seemed to share the same elegant jawline as our blonde sister, Chloe.
"I see you all have met."
Hank strode into the room, cutting off any conversation.
"Is this for real?" Maya said, gesturing to the girls and me.
"Very much so," Hank nodded. "More will be explained at the will reading when the final inheritor arrives."
"You mean our final sibling?" Zoe asked with a raised eyebrow. "Another sister or do we get another rude, jackass brother?"
"Hey. Uncalled for," I shot back at Zoe.
"You immediately asked how old I was. Not a great first impression," Zoe turned on me.
"Leave Rick alone," Maya said, coming to my defence.
I was immediately proud of Maya for coming to my defence so quickly, but I noticed Chloe purse her lips in thought as she studied Maya. If the beautiful blonde suspected anything, she kept it to herself.
"It's okay, Maya. I did kind of act like a jerk," I said, shooting Maya a grateful smile before turning back to Zoe. "Sorry, I didn't mean to be rude."
"Thank you," Zoe nodded. "I get it, this is a weird situation. Let's start over."
"When will this other sibling arrive? Do you know who it is?" Samantha asked, steering the topic back.
"Sometime tonight or tomorrow morning," Hank replied.
"And their name?" Samantha asked, pushing the older man.
"None of my business to disclose at this time," Hank smiled. "You are all free to enjoy the facilities of the hotel but please do not try to leave. You may get to know one another or retreat to your private rooms if you wish. It is up to you. I will notify each of you about the will reading as soon as I know more."
Hank didn't wait for any more questions. He spun on his heel and strode out of the room, putting his phone to his ear to make a call before he was even out of the room.
"I'm gonna go lie down for a bit," Maya said. "This is all a bit too overwhelming."
"Well do come back soon, sister," Chloe smiled. "I would love to get to know you."
With a quick glance at me, Maya turned and headed for the elevator.
"I'm gonna go too," I said. "I need a bit of time to process this."
"Very well, don't be a stranger, Richard," Chloe said.
Zoe and Samantha, both gave me half-hearted farewells, but I was already striding to the lifts as fast as I could without sprinting. Maya was already gone when I arrived, but there were two more sets of guards in identical suits that I suspected were for Samantha and Zoe. Mike leaned against the wall with a glass of whiskey in one hand and his cigar in the other.
"You right, lad?" Mike asked. "You look about as pale as that lass that just came past."
"Yeah, I'm good," I lied. I felt like I was going to be sick. "Let's head back to my room."
Mike, the two guards and I piled into the lift and headed down to my floor. I looked both ways to see if I could see Maya, but neither her nor her bodyguards were in sight. Mike must have known something was up, because he didn't crack a single joke or curse once on the walk back to my room. His restraint finally caved in once the doors were closed with my bodyguards on the opposite side.
"Okay, mate. Tell me what happened?" Mike asked, a look of concern on his rough face.
I contemplated lying to the man, since the truth was almost too unbelievable to believe myself. What were the chances that the girl I met on my birthday was a long-lost sister. The chances of having five siblings were low enough, and I had to be the unlucky mother fucker that fucked one of them a day earlier.
"Remember that girl I talked about," I sighed heavily and turned to Mike.
"Yeah. The lass you invited over for a booty call?" Mike nodded.
