As I pointed out many times, I'm a novice writer. When I wrote this short story, it was just a dream. Never thought it would grow into a series. With over 1750 pages written, the story keeps unfolding. I know there's an end in site, but the story keeps evolving. With that said, I listened to all the comments, and went back to re-write the beginning of this chapter. Got rid of the first-person, and corrected all the errors. Proof read it many times and I hope its ready. It was tough, but I had the time. As I keep writing this series, my writing has improved, and made each chapter easier to read by creating, mini chapters. With each chapter, I learn something new. I have great fans, and with that I keep writing. So this remastered chapter is for you, the fans....
VBH - Vampire Bounty Hunter
Chapter 1.1
A slut suggests to me to do this job, even though it's not what I wanted or hoped for. You see, his family is all vampires; yes, he knows what you're thinking, but he's not one of them. Before you go there, he's not hunting his parents or siblings. In fact, he's ok with them being vampires; even though he's a 'Normal' human, they still love him. In short, he's the black sheep of the family. This is his story. His name is Samuel Harrington, III, but prefers to be called Sam. His father is the second or II, if you wanted to know. They grew up upper middle class. He's the youngest of three siblings; both his brother and sister are way older than him by 12 years.
Both of his brother and sister work within The Firm that his father now runs. When he becomes of age, he will work there too. Looking back, he had a normal life. He was a lanky kid growing up that got bullied often, but when the parents found out, things miraculously changed the next day. It was really weird. Every bully, whether it's in elementary, junior, or high school, would come to him and apologize for the way they acted and begged him for forgiveness. Totally weird, right? As he grew up, he didn't fit in; he wasn't good at sports, instruments, or anything. Everyone there classified him as a nerd, or worse, a loser. He didn't have lots of friends, but that all changed when he got into high school. Every kid sits down with their parents to have that discussion about the 'Birds and the Bees' speech. However, his parents were different. They told him they were indeed vampires.
After he was born, his parents were turned. His father first, and then his mother. They loved us so much, but they had to learn to get their dietary needs elsewhere. In his early years, he can't remember, but believes the maid, or the butler, raised him till he was 6 years old. Not 100% sure, could've been someone else as they dealt with their urges for blood. Once they could handle their appetites, the family prospered. After being turned, my father started working at my grandfather's business, The Firm. There they started receiving bagged blood on the regular instead of getting it from black market or from some sketchy guy. Just think, if he didn't work there, where would they get their blood... Makes you wonder how elite vampires thrive. On rare occasions, they would feed from 'Norms' (Normal humans), who either want to be a feeder for a price, the high from giving, or hope to be turned one day.
Anyway, getting off topic here. They both shared that they were indeed vampires, but still loved him. They said that once he reached a certain age that he can be turned if he so wants to. Now being turned comes with a lot of benefits: immortality for one, increase senses and strength, and privilege to work at The Firm. They also told him that both his brother and sister have been turned. It was quite shocking, but the little details here and there made sense. For instance, father working nights instead of days, we never opened the curtains during the day, and we hardly went anywhere during daytime hours as a family. Never thought in a million years that my family was all vampires. Of course, he had to ask questions; who wouldn't?
Is he the only human in this household? Is the maid or butler a vamp, too? His parents already told him the truth and so continues to do so. They said, "Yes, you're the only human in the household. The maid and butler are minions. We tried to keep them human, but keeping the 'Secret' secret was daunting for them. So it was decided to turn them into minions, and told their families that they passed away to keep their silence. Before you jump to conclusions, we aren't horrible people. We asked the help prior to being turned into minions. Offered each of them a settlement package for their families for lifelong servitude. It's like an insurance policy of sorts. They're easily controlled as long as they wear their silver necklaces. They don't need food or sleep, but they need our blood once in a while to keep ticking."
"Any other questions?" They asked.
His mind went blank, but everything about his childhood kept unravelling behind his eyes. Lots of things clicked, but definitely asked about those bullies he had growing up. Both of his parents turn to one another and smiled. They shared that they indeed handled it. Sam's father spoke up, and says, "We did that on your behalf, Sam. Depending on the day, either parent would go to the bullies home. Sneak in and scare the living shit out of them during the night. We would use our powers of suggestion to make the bully be a better person and apologize for their behavior. It was a lot of fun; especially picking them up with one hand and seeing their eyes bug out and scared shitless." Hearing that from your father is scary enough. However, seeing his mother smack his father on his arm, telling him to tone it down cause it's scaring their son. Shaking her head, she says, "Sam, we cared and didn't want you to be bullied or scared. We stepped in when we can. Hope you don't judge us so."
Upon silence, both parents looked at each other, wondering if their son could handle it. For a moment, they thought they had to step in and wipe his memory of this very conversation. Silence ensues. This is a big thing to drop on a teenager's shoulders, and wondered if he can keep the 'Secret'. Sam, however, knew what they were thinking. His mind cleared and said, "Cool!"
"Really?" They both said sarcastically...
"Yeah, it is. Sorry, a lot of things were clicking in my head; so many clues, but left unnoticed." Looking at both of them, Sam continued, "Finding out that your parents aren't normal but in fact vampires, is totally 'Cool'. If vampires exists then that opens the doors to other supernaturals as well, right?" He stammers...
