The Gann Family Saga Part 1
I hope you enjoy this tale of undercover agents, criminal gangs, and family shenanigans. It starts off as an undercover tale, involving a brother and his sister, and then veers off into Misery territory as our protagonist is at the mercy of his mother. It's one of my longer stories, so if you like them shorter, you should move on. As always I look forward to your feedback. I'd like to thank PennLady for her help in editing, however all the mistakes in this story are mine and mine alone. This is also a sitcom type of story, where the characters don't always make the same choices that you and I would make in real life. Don't take it too seriously, sit back, relax and enjoy.

Seth rechecked his weapons, and then made sure he didn't have anything on him that would link him to his real life. His continued existence depended on his anonymity. If the Vice Lords found out who he really was, he would be very, very dead after a very, very long torture session. He was on a long undercover operation that was becoming more dangerous with every passing day.
Special Agent Seth Gann had infiltrated a criminal gang that was involved in gun running, prostitution and methamphetamine trafficking. They were known as the Vice Lords, and they were part outlaw motorcycle gang and part drug cartel. They were the most dangerous, violent gang that Seth had ever heard of and he was determined to take them all down no matter the danger. He almost had enough evidence to take down the whole gang except for their leader, Big John Ford.
His superiors had wanted him to pull out before now, but Seth had persuaded them to give him one more chance to get some evidence on Big John. Tonight was going to be that last chance. The Vice Lords had invited Seth to become an official member and "Patch In" to the gang this very night. If successful, he would have unprecedented access to all of the inner workings of the Vice lords. He would be one of the few law enforcement agents that had ever infiltrated a criminal gang to this extent.
Tonight there were going to be some minor initiation rituals for him and a couple of the other, real, prospects. A prospect was a minor thug in the gang that was trying to become a full fledged member. It had taken almost a year of undercover work, but Seth was on the verge becoming a real member of the Vice Lords. There would be lots of drinking this night, and, at last, a chance to get into their club house and perhaps get some hard evidence on Big John.
Seth couldn't take a chance on wearing a wire and he knew that he might be stuck inside the club house for a full day and night. The plan was that if his commanding officer hadn't received word from Seth within forty-eight hours they were going to raid the clubhouse and get what they could; end of operation. It had taken a lot of convincing to even get that much time from his superiors.
The hardest part about this undercover operation was the separation from his real life, and especially his family. He was really missing his mother and sister. Seth decided to call his mother before heading out. He hadn't seen anyone in his family for weeks and just couldn't chance that someone from the gang might be tailing him with the initiating coming up. He couldn't his about his assignment and why he hadn't been around.
"Hello," his mother answered on the first ring.
"Hey, it's me."
"Seth!" she squealed into the phone. "I haven't seen you in weeks. Are you avoiding me because of what I said about that girl you'd been seeing?"
"No, it's nothing like that, Mom."
"Don't lie to your mother," she said laughing a little. "I just didn't like her. That's all, but it doesn't mean I'm mad at you or judging you or anything. Why don't you come over tomorrow and I'll make us all a big spaghetti dinner like I used to. Bring HER, if you like."
Seth wasn't seeing anyone. His mom had caught him hanging out with one of the girls from the clubhouse, once before. "Thanks, Mom," Seth said, feeling worse than ever for the lie he was about to tell his own mother. "I can't. I'm working the graveyard shift tonight and then I've got to go over to California tomorrow for a two-day training session and I'm NOT seeing Candy. Can I get a rain check for next weekend?"
"I guess," his mom said. "You sure have been working a lot lately. If I didn't know better, I'd still say you were avoiding me."
Seth hated this part of undercover work the most. He could handle the danger and stress and endless piles of paperwork, but he hated being pulled away from his family. This was one reason that he had never married or had any children.
He had always been extremely close to his mother, especially since the sudden death of his father a few years past. It had been tough on everyone, bringing Seth and his mother closer together. His father's death, however, had caused his sister, Millie, to pull away from them. She always seemed to be getting into trouble and he had just found out that his sister was stripping at O'Malley's on the edge of town. He had been hoping to spend some time with his sister and try to get through to her, but that would have to wait until after this investigation was complete.
"Seth? Are you still there?"
"Oh, sorry, Mom. I was just drifting away thinking about how good your spaghetti is going to be next weekend. Can you make that special garlic bread?"
"Yes, and you had better show up this time or I will know that you are avoiding me. Besides, that will just leave more for Millie and me. You know that she misses you as much as I do, right?"
"I know Mom," Seth lied. He hadn't known that. At least his mother and sister were talking again. That was good news. "Tell her that I can't wait to see her. Are you going to see her tonight?"
