I was startled out of a deep peaceful sleep by a loud pounding on my door. I sat up so abruptly that I tweaked my neck. For a moment I felt like the police were coming to break my door down, the pounding was so hard. I looked around in alarm, trying to figure out what was going on. Then I heard the old familiar sound of my stepsister's voice yelling at me.
"Open up you little shit!" Sadie's voice shouted at me through the door. I let out a long sigh, shaking my head and rubbing my neck. I rolled out of bed, and began walking over to my dresser, but the pounding on the door wasn't letting up. I turned and walked to the door, and opened it. Sadie stormed into my room without waiting for an invitation, and faced me with an awful scowl. Her arms were folded under her large tits, pushing them out a bit.
"Morning Sadie," I sighed. "What's up?"
"You know damned well what's up," she snapped, looking furious. "My mom says you think you can cut off my allowance. What the fuck gives you the idea that you can do that?"
"Because it's my money," I said simply. "I can do whatever I want with it."
"It's my mom's money too retard," she said with a deep eye roll.
"No, actually it's just mine," I said cautiously. I was a little afraid she was going to hit me. She hadn't done it in a long time, but I also hadn't seen her this mad in a long time, so I stayed ready.
"Well do you think my mom will let you stay here if you cut off my allowance?" Sadie asked, glaring at me as if she had just made a devastating point. "Even if the money is yours, it's still my mom's house."
"I guess you didn't hear," I said with a smug smirk. I was already enjoying this more than I should. "I'm not surprised. I'm sure your mom doesn't really want to talk about it. And you weren't at the funeral, so you didn't hear the will. That's ok, I'll catch you up. Dad left everything to me Sadie. Everything. The house, the money, the cars, all of it. He didn't leave anything to you or your mother. This house, and all of my dad's money, is mine now."
"Bullshit," Sadie huffed, looking appalled.
"Afraid not," I smiled. "Ask your mom. She's already had to come to terms with it."
"Even if he left you the house, you still have to give me my allowance," Sadie said, not seeming to grapple with what I was telling her.
"Why would I do that?" I asked.
"Because you have to," Sadie said with an air of self-righteous indignation.
"Of course I don't," I laughed. Even though I had somewhat expected it, it was still amusing to see just how much she didn't seem to understand. "I don't have to give you a dime. I also don't have to let you in my house. I can call the police right now and have you arrested for trespassing."
"Very funny asshole," she scoffed. "What are you going to tell them? You don't want your stepsister in your dad's house?"
"It's my house Sadie," I said. "I have all the paperwork to prove it. All I would have to say is that you're not welcome here, in my house, and that you're refusing to leave."
"It's my mom's house too shithead!" She shouted. I just shook my head and laughed at how slow to the take she was being.
"No, it isn't," I said, speaking slowly, as if to an idiot. "It's my house. Just mine. Not ours, not your mom's, not even my family's. Just mine. He left it to me. Which means you are no longer welcome here Sadie. And I'm not going to be paying your rent, or giving you any money at all. I'm in no way obligated to do this, but I'll pay your rent this month, to give you time to figure something out. That's me being extremely generous by the way."
"I don't know where you're getting off Jack," she said angrily, pushing her tits out further with her folded arms, though she didn't seem to be aware of it. "Even if your dad did leave you the house and money, that doesn't give you the right to go on a total power trip. You still have to give me my allowance."
"What are you talking about," I laughed. "I don't owe you anything Sadie. Absolutely nothing. Now, if you had been nice to me, of course I would help you. But you weren't. You've been awful to me for the last ten years. You even made high school hell for me. Why on earth would I give you anything? Seriously, it's a real question. Why would I ever give you anything?"
"Because you have to," she said, looking a little surprised at the way I was speaking to her. I could tell it had been a long time since anyone had been this blunt with her. Maybe no one ever had. And I was enjoying the hell out of it. "I'll get kicked out of my apartment otherwise."
"Sucks for you," I shrugged. "You shouldn't have been such a bitch. I'm sure if you knew I was going to get everything, you would have treated me differently. But you didn't. You treated me awfully. And now you're getting what you deserve. I'd appreciate it if you left my house now."
Sadie just stood there for a moment, looking stunned. I could tell that the reality of the situation was finally sinking in. Her beautiful green eyes were wide, and I could see the gears in her head working fast as she slowly caught up to the situation.
"Jack, come on," she said in a much softer tone. She let her arms drop, and gave me puppy dog eyes. "You can't really cut me off. I'm your sister."
"No, you're my stepsister," I corrected. "Actually, now that dad's dead, I'm not even sure if you're still that. You're just the girl who made my life hell for a decade. So no, I do not have to help you."
"Well, if you're being such an asshole about this, then why is my mom still here?" Sadie asked, folding her arms again. "She's been even worse to you than I have."
"I'm not sure about that," I laughed. I didn't know which of them had been worse to me. It's kind of like saying who was worse between Stalin and Hitler. It doesn't really matter at the end of the day. "You've been plenty bad," I went on. "But your mom and I worked out a deal. Temporarily anyway. I'm letting her stay here for now."
"What kind of deal?" Sadie asked, looking hopeful.
"The personal kind," I said, not wanting to tell her what had happened between me and her mother the day before.
"Come on, tell me," Sadie pushed. "She's my mom. Why is she allowed to stay but I'm not?"
