Once again, a giant thanks to my editor, "N". I appreciate your skills more each day.

It was mid-afternoon a few weeks later as Lennie walked into his living room, where Cindy was in a discussion with Lori and DJ. They were wearing Wicked Weasel string bikinis from Australia. Lennie was particularly fond of them because they showed the maximum amount of skin but kept a hint of modesty in strategic places. Moreover, the fit on his girls' fantastically shaped bodies was perfect.
"What's going on with Fiona?" DJ asked. "This is the third day in a row she has turned down a date. The app clearly shows she isn't having her period. Is she not feeling well or something? And this is the sixth time this month where she has just not accepted her dates."
"Not that I'm aware of. Lori, do you know what is going on with her?"
"Yeah. It is that guy, Rod. She is falling hard for him—I'm telling you, Cindy, that's what's happening with her. Let me tell you, he's no good. I don't trust him any farther than I can throw him." Lori had a look of concern on her face.
"I just wanted to bring it up, because I had to reschedule at the last minute with another girl, and last night I couldn't find a replacement. Trevor Haskins had to go without last night. He wasn't too happy." Trevor was one of the Service's oldest and highest-paying clients. DJ reported it as if she was tattling on her friend.
"Thanks for telling me, dear. I wasn't aware she was becoming unreliable. I will talk with her." Cindy picked up her phone and called Fiona, who picked up on the third ring.
"Hi, Cindy. What's up?" Fiona responded in her Irish brogue accent.
"Sweetie, we need to talk. DJ told me you've declined six days' worth of dates in a row. And that it has been going on for a while now. Is there anything wrong?"
"No, Cindy." She paused. "OK, I have to tell someone. It's Rod and me. We're in love!"
The confession caught Cindy off guard, but she recovered. After a few minutes of discussion, Fiona's phone started beeping. She looked at the screen and it showed zero battery.
"Oh damn, I forgot to charge my phone. Here is Rod's number, call me back on it." She just got it out when her phone finally died. Cindy turned to Lennie and said, "Remember this number", and rattled it off. Lennie may have been old, but his mind was still as sharp as a tack. Cindy called Fiona back on Rod's number, and they agreed to meet in a foursome of Fiona, Rod, Lennie, and Cindy.
A few hours later, they were on the outside deck at Ray's Boathouse. Overlooking the saltwater entrance/exit of the Ship Canal, where boats went from Puget Sound through the Ballard Locks and either into or out of fresh water to Lake Union and Lake Washington. It was a favorite place for people to congregate, drink fancy drinks, and eat delicious seafood. They sat at an outdoor table off to the side where they could talk without being heard.
"I'm so happy, Cindy. Rod has made me feel special." Her eyes were wide open, and the look of a puppy dog smile was obvious. "And Cindy, he knows."
"Knows what?" Cindy responded.
"Just like Lennie and you, he knows what we do. And it's okay with him. Isn't that amazing? I've found my special guy like you found Lennie!"
Rod just sat at the table and smiled. Lennie and Cindy looked at each other but didn't say a word. Neither one was thinking good thoughts. This was a topic that none of the girls were supposed to talk about. It was critical to their security that nobody knew what they did without being vetted first.
"Yes, Fiona is special to me. And after knowing her history, I understand the unique circumstances of her life. It took a bit of getting used to, but I don't have a problem with how she makes her money."
Fiona's smile grew even bigger as she leaned in and kissed Rod. Cindy looked at Lennie with even more concern on her face. Lennie had a pit in his gut, like something was not right. Not right at all. Men simply didn't agree to have their girlfriends be active escorts. It had taken Lennie a long time to reluctantly accept it, and he was a generation older than they were. For a man in his early thirties to so easily accept it? No, it didn't make sense.
"So Rod," Lennie said as he took over the discussion. "What do you do for a living, anyway?" It was the first question that came to mind. After all, he wouldn't be the first man to live off the earnings of a prostitute girlfriend.
"I'm in the import/export business. Mostly Mexico, and also South America. I import specialty foods local to Mexico and some countries in South America, mainly Colombia. Mostly maize from Mexico, and galupa, and curuba from Colombia. All have great amounts of antioxidants that make them healthy to eat. We also import spices that are grown there. There is a big demand for these foods here in America. The specialty restaurants seem to order all I can import. I've been doing well the last few years."
"He has a new Ferrari 296GTS. It's a beautiful cherry red with supple leather seating," Fiona blurted out. "Those seats feel so good on my naked ass."
"Oh really?" Cindy offered.
"Yeah, Rod likes it when I wear a sundress and nothing else. He likes to show off me and the car together," Fiona responded. Fiona's stare at Rod reminded Lennie of a high school girl with her first boyfriend.
"I didn't know you knew much about sports cars, Fiona," Lennie responded.
"I don't, but I do now that my boyfriend drives one. And it's so fun to ride in!"
"Rod, a 296GTS isn't cheap. You must be doing well in your import business," Lennie offered.
"Yeah, I'm doing fine. And yeah, my GTS cost me a little over $400 grand. But hey, who's counting?" A crooked smile appeared on Rod's lips.
"So, you don't mind that your girlfriend takes dick and is soaking up the cream from other men, Rod? Doesn't it bother you what she does?" Lennie tried to shake him from his smug attitude.
"Look, she had a life before she met me. And yes, I'd rather not have her sexing up other men, but it's her career, and who am I to stop her from her career?"
Lennie and Cindy looked at each other again. Something wasn't right.
"Oh, and Cindy, I am going to be taking more time off to travel with Rod. We just got back from another visit to Mexico. It was the third one this month. I love to travel with him!"
"What do you do with him, sweetie? Do you visit the farms or the import warehouses?" Lennie saw Cindy's concerned look on her face. Rod noticed but said nothing. Fiona looked like she was staring at a litter of puppies, oblivious to anything but Rod.
"No, Rod says that is just boring stuff I wouldn't be interested in, so I just shop during the day and stay in the hotel, waiting for him to return after a long day. And, by the way, we will be traveling again every other week for the next five weeks. I was going to tell DJ so she could adjust my schedule."
Rod continued with his smile, not saying anything else. He squeezed Fiona's hand as they stared into each other's eyes. Little else was said, and the lunch was soon finished. Both couples got into their cars, Rod and Fiona in the Ferrari, and Lennie with Cindy in her Audi A6.
"I don't like it, Lennie. I don't like this at all. Something is off."
